Modern Warfare 2 is set several years after the conclusion of Call of Duty 4. The radical Russian Ultranationalist organization has returned to prominence under the leadership of Vladimir Makarov, a former associate of Imran Zakhaev with his own ambitions. Makarov has publicized Zakhaev's death as an act of martyrdom to garner support for his cause, enabling him to build a strong power base in Russia over the years. Fearful of Makarov's growing influence, the global community established Task Force 141 to counter the threat posed by the resurgent Ultranationalists.

I know there's discussions in my General Gaming Thread about this, but I'm dedicating a thread just for this game. Modern Warfare was a huge sell for me due to the story and single player. So I'll be sure to get this one on release day and play it.

So far I love what's been shown at E3, TGS, and GamesCom for it. The snowmobile level itself is badass, and the added multiplayer feature such as Spec Ops and the new perks online will be worthy of buying. I much look forward to this game on November 10th, 2009! This is a good year to be gaming.

Ah, so you saw the new trailer too? The setting shown in the end was kinda shocking.

Same, old repeated synopsis.

"DUDE. RUSSIAN TERRORISTS. BRITISH EQUIVALENT OF JACK BAUER NEEDS TO GO SAVE THEM. NAO."

"Can we bring some token Irish, Scottish and Americans?"

"Fine |:|"

"By the way, are there any original factions in this game?"

-Room erupts with laughter at the thought of originality.-

It's always some poor nation as the bad guy against the holy and righteous west, same old overused cliche.

YOU'VE GOT CALL OF DUTY IN MY FALLOUT.

Well it does look cool. I'm not a big fan of FPS but I'll see how many of my friends get it before deciding whether it's worth a buy. Or I'll wait a few months till I get a new laptop and get it for the PC instead. FPS are best played with a keyboard and mouse after all (inb4 Rick rage).

Also at the end of the trailer they only showed the 360 even though it's coming out for PS3 and PC. Nice marketing their M$!

You got Fallout in my Call of Duty.

Microsoft will get some "exclusive" MP maps, apparently. They struck a deal with Activision.

Actually, if you listen to Makarov's speech in the DC trailer, he's out for vengeance and seems like he's out to teach the US a lesson. Also overused, but it doesn't seem like Makarov is leading a poorly-equipped bunch of ragtag terrorists.

eh I'm looking forward to it. Although I kinda liked the WW2 gameplay more than this modern warfare stuff.

Oh well the game still looks very promising.

Never been a big fan of FPS, but something about this game really draws me in. The story seems like it's more fleshed out compared to the first one, definitely liked Modern Warfare more than WaW, which I have yet to complete and never played online.

This one at the least i'll clock the first player mode and reach level70 or whatever the maximum level is online, I just hope my accuracy and reaction time improves soon, it's piss poor at the moment. Don't know if i'll still be playing this after two years, but if it's as popular as the first one with my mates might not have a choice in the matter.

Yeah, it's pretty much guaranteed to suck away your life. I know the first one did for me. Though, COD4's campaign was awesome. Don't know why some of you are crapping on it...

So... I'm just curious.

What would you make if you were in charge of the game?

I would make any and all possible plots possible. Nazi's win WWII, Ottoman Empire survives WWI and continues on to become a world leader and controls all of Africa and the Middle East with the exception of Egypt, etc. All nations would be playable, with a vast assortment of weaponry, vehicles, and factions. Infact, I would make the multiplayer able to pit one period of time for a faction against another, so WWI Ottomans can face off against WWII Chinese for massive lulz and awesomeness.

AVAILABLE FACTIONS:
WWII Polish Partisans
WWII Russian Red Army
WWI Russian Imperial Army
WWI Ottoman Turk Soldiers
Alternative Timeline Modern Ottoman Soldiers/Partisans
Alternative Timeline Modern Russian Partisans
Alternative Timeline Modern Nazi German Soldiers
WWII Chinese Soldiers
WWII Japanese Soldiers
WWII Thailand Soldiers
WWII Vichy French Soldiers
WWII Free French Forces Soldiers
WWI American soldiers
WWI Austrian Soldiers
WWII Finnish Soldiers
WWII English Soldiers
WWI English Soldiers
Modern-day Irish National Association Soldiers
WWI Italian Soldiers
WWII Italian Soldiers

So on and so forth. But this would require hard work and imagination and a visible attention span beyond that of a squirrel on LSD.

A bit too much. I like the concept, but that list is a little long. Truthfully, with that many different combination, could come up with about 3-4 games.

I'd think that there'd be too much factions to be able to tie in together.

The main problem is that this would be "humanizing" the enemy... which is a big no-no. It's a lot less satisfying killing enemy NPCs when you've seen their side of the story.

Another reason: Think of the backlash from the public (and in politics) the game would receive. The company's reputation probably wouldn't be at a high-point after-wards. Sales would also probably suffer from this.

Sure... but it would probably take decades (depending on how detailed with everything you wish to be) to develop and would require the funding and dedication that no company can offer. Then at the end of it all the sales probably wouldn't even come close to what you spent on making it.
Pretty bored.

Yeah, but its called MODERN WARFARE 2. It'd kinda go against the concept.
