Episode 223: The Young Man and the Ocean -August 04, 2011
A young, reckless fisherman named Yuusuke is determined to stop a ship-attacking monster for killing his father. In his attempt to do so, he meets Naruto and crew who are having ship trouble.

Episode 224: The Merchant Ninja of Venice – August 11, 2011
Naruto and the crew traveling with him make a stop at an uninhabited island where they surprisingly meet with Sakura, who’s gathering medical plants.

Episode 225: Cursed Ghost Ship – August 18, 2011
Due to thick fog, Naruto and crew come to a near stand still in their travel. All of a sudden, they notice a ghastly ship emerging from the distance.

Episode 226: Battleship Island – August 25, 2011
Naruto and crew continue their travels when they are suddenly hit by a band of pirates on a battleship-like island.

The good thing is, I doubt it will last for long. Come September, we'll be back to canon (with fillers mixed in).

i feel so biased XDD if it was hinata most of us would probably be ticked that she shows up for no reason but since its sakura its all okay.

Well, it can't be THAT bad. I mean, we have the Gutsy Ninja author doing the new movie's script, and he's a professional novelist. As a professional novelist, I'm sure he's studied those literature works. Who knows, maybe he's actually handling the Shippuden series from now on, including those episodes.

I hope you're right I have had it with Pierot playing favorites with Sasuke and Hinata and downgrading Naruto and Sakura's characters.

Okay, so I finally got around to sharing my thoughts on this episode. I actually watched it last friday, but I've just been too preoccupied to comment until now.

Anyway, this episode was pretty good overall. Some of the filler bits were funny (like the one with Karin ) but I didn't really like the whole Konohamaru gang shtick, even though I must admit that it brought a nice sense of light lightheartedness to what has otherwise been a very dark and "angsty" story arc. The Hinata part did have me worried for a second, because I thought it would go into her feelings for Naruto and maybe show Naruto recriporating her feelings. "off screen" of course. But really it was just to establish the upcoming arc where Naruto must learn to control the Kyuubi.

*sigh* listen to me. Im starting to sound more and more like a Hinata basher.

I don't really mind fanservice and I don't really mind fillers. It all depends on how much it tampers with the overall canon storyline (if at all). Like someone else has already pointed out, its not like Pierrot haven't given us NaruSaku fans some nice filler service as well.

My main concern with the "NaruHina" filler, is that it makes Naruto and Hinata out to be that much closer than they really are. This is especially evident in episode 166, which to me just seems like a fan omake. Not only does it have far better animation than the rest of the series (especially episode 167), it also depicts Hinata as being a lot stronger than she actually is (or would be against an opponent like Pain). I mean she acutally managed to get a hit on him. Something that, if my memory serves me right, not even kakashi was able to do. But the worst part was the whole flashback in which Naruto saved her from bullies when they were kids. Even though this could merely be seen as another one sided instance of affection on Hinata's part, the feeling that I got was that Studio Pierrot was trying to establish some sort of early bond between the two.

I just hate the way som of her fans treat her like she's some sort of goddess who can do no wrong and also Studio Pierrot for tampering with the minds of innocent anime viewers.

Nah, im just kidding. Especially since it seems like we will be getting some Sakura filler service in the upcoming episodes. Im really looking forward to that actually, especially since we otherwise won't be seeing Sakura again for a long time.

Now with this fillar, are they both really just going to completely ignore that or is the anime going to give lots of little hints between them with a sense of awkwardness and blushing. I'd be happy with that as long as the anime doesn't just completely ignore this.

With the strong hint of NS in movie 5 Blood prison they just might, then again they might not and they will keep adding one sided NH and SS fillers.

Well, its only one episode but, probably, its gonna have some sort of clearing up issues, but its gonna not really change the dynamics of the relationship that the manga has and will just leave it up to the fans to speculate and for the haters to moan.

Although that episode 224 info made me snicker a little, Sakura gathering medical plants? What type of medical plants are they implying?

^^ I think its just regular medical plants for supplies to retrive for the village, that part is kinda irrelevant but at least it gets Sakura in it and what will happen between her and Naruto when they interact would be key.

Edit: Is it kinda bad that we're talking about next month's episodes instead of the episode that just aired?

Yeah, but they could easily revert to "memories" like the last filler set, and the episodes might wind up being pre-shippuden stuff. That way Sasuke could be included and they could easily bypass all the sticky issues of how Sakura and Naruto are going to act around each other.

The anime team has done lots of nutty things. But (and please correct me if I'm wrong) they have never expanded on the canon Naru/Saku relationship. I don't mean the little moments or the jokey stuff. I mean on par with the Hinata filler, where they have taken great pains to develop a character or show different facets of their friendship. (Specifically the Pain arc nonsense and Naruto saving Hinata from the bullies.)

Anway, I'm not lambasting the true Naru/Saku moments that are there or that have followed the canon exactly. I know there are some. I'm saying it's more likely to follow the same patterns of Super Tsundere Sakura, and any lovey/jokey stuff will be promptly undermined with some punching or put-downs.

I just think the anime is taking another route with the story, bloating up Hinata's overall importance to add to the romantic tension.

sorry to be a buzzkill. I hope I'm wrong. But in the anime it isn't even a fair love triangle (between NS and NH). There is clearly a favorite as far as doting extra development on, over all the other rookies even, and that's Hinata.

Also, Naruto's crew may turn out to be Hina-Shino-Kiba. And that would suck even more.

Alright. I'm done raining on parades. Seriously, I hope I'm wrong. It's just that so many of these little opportunities for good development or filling in the holes with an interesting, relevant sidestory are just squandered. I just don't want to get my hopes up too high.

I just hope your wrong and we don't get more of those pre-timeskip fillers and that the crew with Naruto is the one assigned to be with him during the "Taming the Fox" arc (Gai, Yamato, Aoba and that Cloud guy).

as long as they have NS I'm fine with fillers and they SHOULD drop Sakura's tsundere personality she just isn't tsundere with Naruto any more she's been really open with him for a while but Pierot always milks that concept dry and it always portrays her badly I mean you only need your fingers to count the amount of times she hit him in the manga so they are exaggerating her tsundere attitude too much in the anime though I praise the small NS moments we get in return

Im guessing the episode will go like: walk around island, bump into Sakura, talk, 10 minute flashback, leave island, end.

And I think maybe they overdevelop Hinata's importance because they find her an interesting love interest for Naruto. But all of that is unnecessary failure since Sakura has always been with Naruto. Nothing can beat constant development since the start of the series. Its hard to ignore Sakura as a love interest if the girl is in same team with the main character throughout the series.

I don't know if I'd really call it favoritism, since, from what I've read, Hinata generally rivals Sakura in terms of popularity. At the end of the day, the anime studio is trying to make money, so they're obviously going to give popular characters more screen-time. Hinata very rarely appears in the canon, considering her popularity, so giving her extra scenes, no matter how unnecessary, is a smart business move.

And "not adding NS fillers"? Come on, there's been way more NS fillers than anything else. It's just that, due the nature of their relationships, NS scenes can be chalked up to platonic friendship, while NH is always obviously romantic on Hinata's side. Even in the Sanbi Arc, in which Hinata was actually a main character, I got way more of an NS vibe than anything (Sakura getting worried about Naruto and punching him into a crater, Kakashi's comment afterwards, Sakura talking to Naruto on the cliff, Naruto and Sakura walking seperate from the group in the setting sun). The only real filler scenes I've seen with even a hint of Naruto reciprocating were that lame Bikochu Arc in Part I, and Hinata's extended Pein fight. Most of the NH stuff I've seen them do is more along the lines of Hinata silently wishing him well, while Naruto remains oblivious. Which is pretty close to canon, IMO.

I guess the anime studio does overplay Sakura's tsundere tendencies, but it's not like they're creating it out of thin air. Sakura's obviously a tsundere in the manga, so it's only a matter of magnitude really. Plus, there's been plenty of NS filler scenes that don't seem to use that persona of hers. In Part I, she offered to clean his clothes and stayed by his hospital bedside after he got hurt (I can't remember, but I think she made some comment after he ran off about staying up all night watching him). In Part II, we got her reflecting on Naruto supporting her during the tree-climbing exercise, and we got that romantic scene where Naruto holds Sakura's note over his heart. Plus, there was that time in the Sora Arc where Sakura runs onto the battlefield to help Naruto, and he jumps in front of her to protect her from an attack.
There's probably more that I'm not thinking of, but the bottom line is I don't think we're in any position to complain about favoritism. Hinata just gets a lot of screen-time proportional to her manga appearances, which is pretty dismal.

That's probably true, but not necessarily indisputable evidence on our side. I mean, as I recall, Minato and Kushina weren't on the same team.
Although, in all fairness, we don't even know who Minato's female partner was. I'd like to see if Kushina ever worked with Team Jiraiya, that'd be a filler worth watching. I can see her punching him into a crater after a pervy comment .
