Though in a recent interview he admitted there was a time he was hesitant to change Hinata with Sakura, i bet it was from the start of 2nd part to pain saga) but he felt sorry for Hinata and thought that a woman would look horrible if she had suddenly a change of heart.

Inside me Naruto’s child era has finished and from when the adolescent era started I decided to make Naruto get with Hinata.
