You never watched Twilight? Lol The romance is very corny and has questionable themes (pedophilia necrophilia etc) but at least was consistent with the Edward/Bella thing. Jacob was always a red herring. I actually kinda liked the first movie. XD It's only in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn that the story gets really bad + Bella's downfall as a heroine.
But yeah..I'll go as far as to say Twilight is probably a better franchise than the Last and what this crap Naruto series will become.
EXACTLY.

Oi, I hate to say this, but the only reason RTN made more in dollars so far is because yen devalued against the US dollar ever since. Japanese yen value decreased in the last two years. It's not worth as much in dollars anymore. Dollars don't matter when it comes to box office numbers in Japan anyway, hence why it's Japan, where yen matters. The Last has made more yen than RTN (in it's entire run) in less than a month.
Road To Ninja between July 28th and September 23rd : ¥ 1.46 billion
The Last between December 6th and December 28th (?): ¥1.49 billion
79 yen per dollar when RTN was out. Currently around 120 yen per dollar.

I live at malaysia...well of course I will (it was better now actually), it's just laughable since as far as I remember, Naruto's movies never, I mean NEVER play in any theater here. Their methods were more to DVD release and such. So when I see one of my friend shared the news with us and asked something like "You guys, dare to watch it? LoL LoL LoL" I was like

If yen is devalued, then they aren't making nearly as much money as they could if it wasn't. If anything sounds like they inflated prices...

The only reason The Last made so much is because of all the false advertising. Its the only canon movie movie of the franchise, it was told that this movie would tie all the loose ends etc, etc. This movie was supposed to be this 'Epic Grandfinale' that brings closure too all the characters and plot-points because it is called 'The Last'. It wouldn't have done half as well if not for the misleading title, advertising and the no refund policy. You just have to look at the movie's rating to see this. 8 out of the top 10 reviews give this movie 1/5 stars and each of those reviews has about 100 likes each.Oi, I hate to say this, but the only reason RTN made more in dollars so far is because yen devalued against the US dollar ever since. And anyways even if this movie's collection surpasses Rtn's(I believe that it will) the question remains how much does it really help SP. Its gonna cost them in the long run.
But having said that ,as of right now this movie is going to bring them a lot of money. I'm sure its gonna do great in the west as well. So to see the damage that the movie caused to the franchise I think we'll have to see how the rest of the New Era project does.

To be fair, RtN also used some false advertising. SP heavily prompted the movie using the K11 and Sasuke's alternate versions. That was what they were using as a draw in all the promos and trailers. Kishi even drew a special chapter to promote the movie with the K11. Than the movie came out and they were barely in it. I remember that ticked off a number of non-NaruSaku fans. The only reason The Last made so much is because of all the false advertising. That doesn't hurt the rating though. Plus, this is canon. That's more in stake.
Anyway, heard about the news on the next year delay for Philippines? I have no idea what's going on.

1.Rtn never claimed to be canon, so it wasn't a must-watch.
2.Refunds were allowed.
This time Posters were sold in advance with tickets and quotes promising that Kakashi and Sasuke's roles would be prominent. That goes beyond the usual merchandising.
The fans had every right to be angry with Rtn too. But at least some of them could get their money back. This time that wasn't even an option.
That's what makes it worse imo.

Correct
With inflation, everything in Japan cost more and to do business outside of Japan is more expansive if you're a Japanese company

So basically all one would have to do is basic (but with large numbers) math to figure out which movie truly grossed the most money

Not grossedSo basically all one would have to do is basic (but with large numbers) math to figure out which movie truly grossed the most money
But which movie made them the most profit
Unfortunately we don't have the costs for neither RtN nor The Last,so finding the profit is hard
Although we can tell they spent more money on The Last with all the advertisement, more theaters(theaters get a %of the revenue),merchandise, the animation and the music

Don't forget the future DVD sales which don't sound promising, this movie is a fiasco at every level possible.

It's better if SM will never release that crappy movie.
Or they should replace it to Cardfight!! Vanguard the Movie: Neon Messiah.

I dont know much about cardfight but anything is better than that hinata movie.
Much better for me if they go for psycho-pass movie.
But of course they have to look at the fanbase.. naruto indeed has a lot of noisy fans..i don't think our local cinemas will show an anime movie that ain't mainstream or they will not profit ..
