That's not accurate. It would be absolutely impossible for the film to accrue an amount equivalent to a budget that high even if The Last were to somehow earn more than all of the previous Naruto films combined. Pierrot's net losses would be so astronomically large that they might even have to declare bankruptcy if that were true.
 
Edit: I believe a more accurate estimate for the film's budget would be something like 150-200% of what RtN's was, considering the increased production time and animation/artwork quality.

But then again we don't even know what RTNs budget is. 

 

200% is probably a bit much. I'd say 125%-150%. They couldn't have projected it to do all that much better then other Naruto movies even with it being the last one and canon. My opinion has been that they probably estimated around 125% RTNs profit which seems to be around what it's headed to make.

The quality of animation for this movie is in my honest opinion just wow. Compare this too rtn where the animation was sub-par at best. Also the extensive promotion which was done for this film,and the merchandizing etc. So I'd go with 150- 200% of Rtn's budget too if not more. But not less.

Studios don't usually release their budgets I think. So I doubt we will ever know.

Give me Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods over this film any day. I watched some poor quality footage of it, and it left a sour taste in my mouth which I had to quickly forget by watching Battle Of Gods again.

I just have to agree with TheMagicConch, there's no way I can accept a crappy movie over the manga. I mean, Naruto was born in a manga, it's nonsense to try to make it a movie series or something. So SP and Kishimoney validated TL? Right, then following this logic, I guess every filler episode is just as canon as this movie. Right...

NH/SS were made canon in the manga, and this movie, with all its retcons and asspulls, is supposed to explain how NH came to be. May as well accept that garbage as canon because of what's already been written in the manga. The only thing that can really change is how NH/SS came to be (like maybe changing the rivalry thing to a genuine love he got over) but why would that even happen?
