I think naruto only sell well in USA.

It's good in Japan but they seem harder on it as in more critical and since OP sells good here, it's vice versa in Japan with both of them. USA seems to stick to nostalgia most of the time while Japan seems to moving forward. I remember that poll asking their most anticipated anime to watch this season and Digimon was like #13, while USA chose that as #3.

It's not to say Japan don't do nostalgia, it's just that they are hardcore as in really be critic at it rather we always say "It's been a long ride so 10/10 for that" and such. That's life for you.
