I would ask myself what exactly the purpose was? To turn people away and then rein them in again with the promise of a real ending? What kind of marketing strategy is that?
More than anything I would just see it as damage control and an attempt to win back the fanbase. I must admit that I would at least be intrigued, not so much because of the story but because I would want to see Kishi try to explain how the hell a side character ended up usurping an entire franchise.
And no, I still wouldn't give him any of my money. He would have to win back my support.
Same I'll just see it as a damage control move
I would also love to see kishimoto trying to explain such move 
Because like you said, the strategy doesn't make that much sense

It doesn't sound if you don't think carefully but apparently, they're cutting 3 hours of their time. Removing AoT, GitS, Cowboy Bepop, Space Dandy.

Not like Studio Pierrot gives a damn, TsukiChan. If they did, they'd have let Kishimoto-sensei have Naruto and Sakura end up together like it's obvious they were meant to!
I know, and I feel like that was unfair and I feel cheated but anyways, I've actually returned to Naruto only to see the Chunin exam arc for Ino's part, after that it's back to no more Naruto for me :/

Man, even if it still just a rumor at this point, its better and quite believable since the show was a month away from schedule and can be retracted if the damage was too severe.

It would be amusing to see a request for refund now that the movie is leaked. Not saying it will happen but if someone does it, I want to know the situation. Be it as refund or not.

Yea I was about to say that, I thought it's not good for programs to be cutting out hours.
