Actually.... things got really bad because refunds where not allowed. So that's one of the reasons of why tickets where sold out on day one. They where basically cheated, specially the kakshi and sasuke fans.
You may already know that but well... that's how it is. They couldnt advertise it as the truth "naruhina movie" so they went with deceptive marketing. Just like with Ironman 3.
That's the thing, had refunds been allowed I'm sure this movie would've tanked easy without a doubt.
Sad truth is that they used thee deceptive marketing before remember with Bonds how it was very Naruto and Sasuke heavy, and when the movie came out you only see him for like twenty minutes. RTN had the same thing because we thought we'd get to see everyones alternate personality throughout the movie. Granted we got the Konoha 11 for like may two or three scenes and that was it. The heavy hitters were Minato, Kushina, Tsunade (to some degree), Kakashi, and Guy (kinda). Even though they used deceptive marketing with Road to Ninja it was still one of the best Naruto movies that came out and it continued to well for Japan when it was in theaters.
I know people who've read the comics were disappointed with Iron Man 3, but I looked at both ways. From a movie stand point I thought Iron Man 3 was great. As a comic book fan I was like yeah you should've fixed things to fit the source material, but even then I still like it. I tried answering Ria's answer the other day about how a non-naruto fan would view this movie. After thinking about for a couple days, One basing it off as a non-naruto fan it would just be your typical Disney princess movie. You've got Hinata (princess) and you got Naruto (the prince) Something happens to the princess and the prince has to come in to save the day. Granted people kind of said the same thing about Tangled when it came out, but like Frozen, that movie has a moral message to it. It was about a girl that turned 18 and wanted to set out to see the world, and I'm sure a lot can connect with that. I mean it's like graduating high school and you're taking the first step to become the person you'll be for the rest of your life. You make your own decisions from this point forward, not your parents. That's another reason why the movie worked. Plus Tangled worked for me because Rapunzel had great on liners moments, Eugene too, and the horse can't forget about him. going back on track, basically Non-Naruto fans would probably be expecting a save the world type of story not a disney love story. Even as a disney love story it just wouldn't work because yet again there is no moral message to it. That's the key line, you gotta give me a message to make me care about this movie. To make me care about watching movie again like Road To Ninja and The Will of Fire.
