Well the icing probably be Juichirou's backstory on how he met his wife. Parallel power. Bakuman happened, Naruto happened (to backstab), so we don't know how this works. As strange as it is, but it sounds like SN, only they can go all the way, since there's no gay love involved due to WSJ policy as one has said. I don't even know that's true.
You often complain about Bakuman... What in the world happened in that manga XD?
Do you think that Soma's mother also went to Tootsuki? The only hint I found is that Gin Dojima knows the name "Yukihira" which I'm speculating is Soma's mother's maiden name... Of course, that might just be b/c Jouichirou has told Dojima about changing his last name in the past, but I doubt he'd ever forget the new name of his best friend from High School (provided they didn't completely loose contact with each other after Joichirou left). Speaking of the name "Yukihira": I read a fanfic yesterday that I'd love to be cannon in the manga: What if Soma's love towards his restaurant not only stems from his pride but from the fact that this restaurant is reminder of the good old times he had with his presumably deceased mother. This would give the restaurant's name "Yukihira" a deeper meaning if you ask me.
Truth be told, I'd be surprised if SomaxErina did not become cannon, but I wouldn't mind it. SomaxMegumi is also great. B/c this manga is not romance, I don't set up my hopes to high (it might be a subtle harem though...).
Anyways, the way I interpretate Jouichirou's line is meant in a romantic sense, but when applied to his son it'll come into practice in a purely competitive way. Why? B/c he hung up the phone before his dad could finish. So for now, I just hope that both Soma and Erina can learn from each other's cooking.

I haven't watched more then the first episode... Was it different then the manga?
