And I think you're taking this a little too literally. :/

Might be, I just think the whole issue of how much athletes/singers/actors gets paid is stupid.

Lol nah. It's...not. It's an issue affecting quite a few people. I could write an essay about it but H&E is not the website for it.

It's dying. There are no real workhorses left, there isn't an attraction. Boxing has been done for a long time now. If this fight had been anything it was hyped up to be, boxing might have made a resurgence. In hindsight, the lackluster nature of the fight might have killed boxing even further.

@bold, because athletes don't get complete educations :zaru: the ignorance in that statement alone is a travesty.

Government doesn't support schools funding in urban areas? I'm a product of an urban area, as you so call it, yet I'm going to college with funding from the government. The media doesn't make sports as a getaway out of some false conception of sports, it's actually applicable. Sport events are a way out from the stress filled lives of many underprivileged children, and whether you agree or not, it is a perfectly viable way to do so. The media doesn't use athletes to convince people that sports is the only chance for a way out, they use athletes because there are plenty of athletes that are inspirational, so these kids have someone to look up to.

Take sports away from society and watch how it crumbles, my bet is that you have no idea the impact of sports on society.

Omg AHK I literally don't want to debate about this since I could on for days and I really don't want to make it an issue on this.

Just know that no- it's not a travesty- it's the truth. The media only shows a certain group certain people- and that this creates a stepping stone to development issues found in urban communities. I can guarantee you right now that the government and state funding take away money out of urban schools and that easily causes "flight". This is just one of the many reasons why people are protesting right now. Mayweather isn't the only one who can't read out there and it's like that for a deeper reason.  Sports are used as a legitimate reason to undervalue hopeful dreams. Don't even get me started on Bruce Levenson or Donald Sterling.

I think it depends on where you look. Certainly, this being labeled the "Fight of the Century" and not living up to its name hurts. I wouldn't write boxing completely off, though. ESPN Friday Night Fights and Golden Boy Fights on Fox Sports 1 have had some really good fights the last couple of years and NBC just had a nice primetime fight a couple Saturdays ago.

Lol it is a travesty, and it's nothing close to the truth. Sports is not anything close to one of the many reasons people are protesting, I thought that the scenario in Baltimore would have made that clear. Sports helps to give dreams, not undervalue hopeful dreams. Could you be anymore condescending? Who are you to decide that a child's dream of becoming a world renowned athlete isn't as good as any other dream? Like I said, it's clear that you know painfully little on the actual impact of sports on society, but have been conditioned to believe otherwise yet you stopped to watch one of the biggest sporting events in the past ten years.

Moving on.

No, we're not moving on.

Sports

Do you still want to talk about this? Cause I haven't even mentioned the racism found in the sport organizations yet.

Because equating sports to government is a perfectly adequate way to try to explain societal functions :zaru:

spoiler

Bring up racism if you want (although technically you already did, just because you said it wasn't a white vs black thing doesn't mean it isnt). Just know that for every pos Donald Sterling you bring up, there exists an Ali, Kraft, Rooney, Robinson, Dungy, Herm Edwards, Stephen A. Smith, Michael Wilbon, Rivers etc. Honestly its pointless, so don't do it actually.

Keep in mind that I haven't even gotten started on the economic ramifications of a major athletic sports team in a city, just something you should consider if you're going to try to negate the overwhelming positive impact sports has on society.

But anyways, I've lost interest, and I'm tired. For the second time: moving on.

Ugh...AHK this is not the argument for you. I'm calling you out on this. I hate arguing about this stuff on websites like this.

Literally you already messed up when you began to talk about "accessibility", as if that's not tied into the government's funding of schools either. And another thing you don't understand is that economics is a completely separate issue found in black communities. You need to realize that there are a lot of more things tied in with institutionalized racism than you think. You argument about media representation proves nothing. Absolutely nothing. It doesn't change the fact that while young people are still developing, the only imagery they're being fed is either a career of rapping, or a career in sports. It's made like that for a reason. It's literally harder for black bodies to get jobs in the science, business, or medical field in this country because of low education and subconscious racism. Representation is a lot more powerful than you can even understand.

Of course there's going to be a lot of blacks in the sports field because that's the majority. Like what is your point from saying this? I'm sorry dude but you haven't even scratched the surface of what I just said. It's a good thing you've lost interest because this is not the one for you.

The thought of wasting a $100 on this fight didn't hit me until now. This fight wasn't memorable and is not one of those fights you would want to watch over and over again.

I've waited a long time to see this fight, and it was such a disappointment and when I hear the Floyd won, I closed my TV instantly.

Almost the entire match all he did was run in circles and when he couldn't run anymore and he had to face Manny, he decided that instead of doing what people paid him to do which is to fight, he decided to give Manny a hug. So romantic.

Floyd didn't deserve to win that fight for running around. The only time he was active was after round 10.

The next time Michael Buffer announces Floyd's entrance, he should say: "Floyeddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd Runaway Mayweatherrrrrrrrrrrrrrr."

Right, because you're the only one that's allowed to talk about this subject because you have a negative view of sports, therefore you're opinion is the only one that's qualified, so nobody that disagrees with you is actually allowed to speak :zaru:

Number one, no, I haven't messed up. Nowhere did I act like government funding to schools wasn't part of accessibility, yet at the same time, I haven't acted like government funding was the only determining factor in accessibility, as you have, and that domestic life doesn't matter even more, like the only place people can play sports is school, rather than at home. The part about media representation was actually very well qualified, because it encourages hard work due to the knowledge that sports is exclusive in regards to the fact that it is highly competitive. As for your "harder for blacks", keep in mind that runs both ways. I've been told to my face multiple times that I can't get a job somewhere because I'm not black. Also, race isn't the only determining factor into getting a job, as you may well know. At no point did I ever say that institutionalized racism wasn't a thing, but I haven't sensationalized it as the media does and said that it affects more things than it actually does, pretending like the impact it has is greater than it really is.

I can't believe you had the nerve to tell me that I'm not qualified to speak on this subject, and then you go and critisize the list of people I brought up, assuming that all of them are black, when two of the individuals are white and Ali's impact was not just on race, but on religious freedom. But I'm the one whose knowledge is little compared to yours :zaru:

I'm moving on because I have zero interest in debating with someone who blindly swats away opposing arguments for the benefit of their own arguments, under the belief that they're more qualified than others to speak. It's not because I'm not suited for this argunent, rest assured. For the third time, moving on.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that this is a fight that you don't want to pick at considering I'm a literal race and history major and I've had over 100+ research on this topic and you most likely have not.   :zaru:  :zaru:

You also have no experience living and witnessing black issues because you're not black.  :zaru:  :zaru:

It doesn't matter that one person told you can't get a job because you're not black when it's a proven fact that discrimination against racial minorities top the charts of the most discrimination cases in job affairs in America.  :zaru:

And that same outcome is one the many underlying issues why blacks have hard times finding stable jobs, even in their area. And why black business owners have to hire their own. :zaru:  :zaru:

My original point was that blacks have little representation in mass media unless it's about sports or music- everything with entertainment. You have literally said nothing to disprove that obvious fact. :zaru:   :zaru:

It doesn't matter what impact Ali had because that has little to nothing to offer on the subject I'm talking about.  :zaru:

And the fact that you have the nerve to say that institutionalized racism is "sensastionalized" by the media of all people infers that you really don't know what you're talking about.  :zaru:  :zaru:

So like I've said before- this is not the argument for you:no:

This match wasn't done for the fans or to finally see who is the better fighter.

This match was done for the money. That's it.

changed the title to just the boxers names, so it's becomes the official fight thread, instead of a single question about what might happen in the future. :)

hope this thelps people remember to post here, since I've seen fight comments on lots of different threads.
