nope... From tweet I have read, Kishi said that he has since the beginning the intention of putting Sasuke's looking for being Hokage. In a few of words, the whole matter of "I want to become Hokage" in 632 by Sasuke was something that Kishi had in his mind since the start.

I think for the solely purpose of rivalry, i think that he had many options to make Sasuke and Naruto rivalry but he went with the Love Triangle.

That seems like that most logical explanation.

What do you mean? Getting Sakura's love is about the only thing they are not rivals in.
It's not even a love triangle, it's a love line, since Sasuke doesn't have romantic feelings for anyone nor does he care for it.

Agree. Without trying to make it sound like a trophy, beating Sasuke is a key to open the door of all rewards and pretty much Hokage title is another one. Have Sasuke win, that will have Sasuke stealing Naruto's dream. You can't go more rivalry than that.

On the begining of the manga we could see clearly how Naruto wanted to beat Sasuke just to impress Sakura as the story progressed it developed on other spots.
It first started with Naruto's love for Sakura later, Sasuke could not accept a loser like Naruto to surpass him because it was against his beliefs (Hatred and special people). much like Vegeta and Goku.(could not accept a low class warrior to be stronger than him who was the "elite").
And so on...
Kishi could start it up with putting Sasuke to have a desire to be kage too and Naruto wanting to surpass him to be the best candidate, but no it started with Sakura.

Lol at above.
Yeah, there's a lot of false reports. Hell, it all began with Yamato being confirmed dead.
wait, Yamato was confirmed to be dead ?

Someone in 2ch randomly reported that he is dead and never coming back. That was not true as there was no more report on it and it was said before the event of that panel began.wait, Yamato was confirmed to be dead ?

Are you for real?
The main reason Naruto wanted to surpass Sasuke has always been so he would acknowledge him. Did you completely miss the flashbacks Naruto had during the battle at the valley of the end? Naruto was envious of the advantages Sasuke had when they were kids and that's why he decided to become his rival.
That Sakura would like Naruto for surpassing Sasuke was just a plus, not the central reason.

The battle of the valley of the end is not the begining of the story, on the begining at chapter 3 where he said "Sakura was the girl he likes a lot" we are presented that this girl he likes has a crush on the guy and because of that he had a sort of rivalry on him.
Later on scenes like the valley of the end and etc.. it gives the idea of acknowledgement and about the past.
If since the chapter 3 he started wanting to be acknowledged and not Sakura, he would not be plausible his rivalry with Sasuke and his desire off acknowledgement would be interpreted as some sort of homossexual romance due to the kiss.
The first impressions we have about Naruto's rivalry on Sasuke are because of his love for Sakura later when the story is being developed and new scenarios comes out we are presented with flashbacks and other stuff explaining this deeply.
Putting Sakura as the center stage of the rivalry is not plausible and would be stupid however it worked easily to be presented at the begining of the manga.

I never go that impression from Chapter 3. I always looked at it as Naruto being angry because Sasuke was the popular guy and he was the loser.
I do recognize that Naruto was pissed that Sakura only looked at Sasuke, but at no point was it ever implied Naruto wanted to beat Sasuke only because of it.

I think Naruto's jealousy for Sakura's affection for Sasuke was only played for fun. In fact, all the parts that included "Maybe Sakura-can will like me now!" was played for fun. In my opinion. I never took it seriously. It was sweet and lighthearted N>S moments.

Yep, the problem is not about if it was for fun or not, because the context cant be discarded, that's why i dont understand why NH fans says that Naruto called Sakura his gf as a fun fact when even being a joke doesnt discard naruto's feelings, in fact it doesnt kill the argument it's just an ad hominem.

For coincidence this popular thing was presented after Sakura arrived and was presented as the girl he likes and she has a crush on the popular one, it was shown why Naruto hated Sasuke's popularity, then why he would simply hate the fact he's popular, he would be simply envious of Sasuke?
It doesnt make sense and it's not plausible, so in fact add Sakura on this equation and it gets sustentation, later on the valley after the development and things they go together, he says about acknowledgement and the fact he saw Sasuke as an equal, which has nothing to do with popularity.
In a way it got discarded and served as to give impression and set the rivalry between Naruto and Sasuke, if you saw only because Sasuke is popular or not, i dont care but you cant deny the obvious coincidence with it being shown alongside.

Well just because it's played for fun by the author doesn't mean Naruto does the same. He's straightforward and honest, but it doesn't have a deep meaning behind it. I think it's meant to be taken exactly the way Naruto says it. He means it, but see the difference in his expression when he daydreams about making Sakura fall for him in the FoD, and when he confesses his feelings to Sai.

Just revaluate my theory on the end of the war arc. I noticed how I've slightly miscalculated it before. Now I can completely see where the arc currently stands, assuming the new chapter comes out on christmas.
So far in this volume:
658: Bijuu vs Madara (don't need to say much)
659: Limbo Hengoku (showcases rinnegan move)
Both of these can be considered set up chapters.
Volume's Structure:
660: (Continue from last two, slowly shift to focus)
661: (End of the setup, Start of the focus)
662: (Focus of the Volume)
663: (Focus of The Volume)
664: (Focus of The Volume)
665: (End of the Volume's Focus)
666: (Climax of The Volume)
667: (End of Climax/ Volume Itself)
I might be inaccurate on of these chapters, but judging by the volume so far. We'll most likely scratch the
surface of the volume's focus which can either be a good or bad thing.
What do you guys think?
