Pepsi@ I don't want to sound rude but enough with 540. You believe Sakura still loves Sasuke that's okay, nothing will change your mind or no one will. That chapter was 3 years ago let's stop bringings events from the past and focus on the present. To me it was an anti SS moment that only adds more nails to the pairing's coffin.

I already gave you the proper translation many times, it is "The person you love must surely be a good person." And to me there is no difference between the 2 translations, no one is more ambiguous than the other one. The two translations refers to the guy Sakura was talking about on the previous chapter when she said "I already have someone." And the fact that she's thinking sadly about Sasuke after he said that proves that she was talking about Sasuke when she said she already had someone. In my opinion, Naruto has nothing to do with this scene, it's only focused on Sakura and her decreasing feelings for Sasuke.

Oh well, doesn't it coincide with the fact that Naruto is a good guy, thus making Naruto as Sakura's guy? Well, the only twist is that, she said she already had someone, and then thought of Sasuke in bad light. Again, I've got one question. Why say 'I already have someone' when you're gonna think of 'that someone' in a bad light? This is just a plain question and a doubt which I had, it has nothing to seeing NS in a bad light or objecting Sakura's emotions at that point or anything, this is just a plain doubt which made me curious.

^I agree with the post. I don't think Naruto had anything to do with that chapter. I think its to show that sakuras feelings for sasuke are changing and shifting, and her veiw of sasuke is now different and sees him differently

This and along with 615. I know anime is about to cross there, but don't make it sound like anime is now ahead of manga. So I pray to God that no one reacted the same way as it was the first time. That was horrifying.

She said she already loved someone, then the guy said that this someone must surely be a good person, and that's why she was sad, because the sentence "the person you like must be a good person" reminds her that Sasuke is not a good guy after all what he did. It makes her doubt about her feelings and about what she said earlier ("There is already someone I love"). And it's the reader who's supposed to make a link between the "The person you love must be a good guy" and Naruto. It's implicit while it's clear, in the manga, that for Sakura, this scene is making her feelings for Sasuke decrease.

Regarding chapter 540, I think it's obvious that Sakura doesn't really love Sasuke all that much. In my opinion the context of what applies as "great" doesn't refer to the deeds that person does but how strong your feelings are towards that person. What the love-letter fodder nin said was true. If you really love that person then that person is great, regardless of what he does.

Were the love-letter fodder nin asking the same question to Karin, I'm sure she would have answered, "He's one great hot, sexy guy hehehe" or something along those lines. Karin thinks Sasuke is a great guy regardless of him trying to kill her because she obviously still loves him. However this isn't the case with Sakura. She definitely does not love him enough to see past his bad actions and regard him as a 'great' guy.

This is why I believe chapter 540 wasn't meant to show that Sakura still loves Sasuke, but meant to show that she doesn't REALLY love him.

It's funny that whatever is the interpretation of that scene the conclusion stay the same: Sakura is on the process of not loving Sasuke anymore.

That still doesn't change the fact that Kishi is directly contradicting his own statements, which is why I thought it could be interpreted differently to begin with. Problem is Kishi says Sakura was being honest with her confession and that she is aware that she loves Naruto after which Sasuke attempts to kill her atleast 2 times then the one she is referring to ends up being the man who she flat out says isn't right for her (the same person who attempted to kill her) as opposed to the one she confessed to and admitted has always been there for her...which is why I think its confusing I'm not denying its anti-SS but it just seems like its taking a step backward with NS.

I wasn't even the one who brought it up this time, aside from that I don't see a problem with discussing conflicting opinions, that is the point of this thread isn't it? You're basically giving me a chair and asking me not to sit in it.

But when you think about it it's simple and his words perfectly describe what happen in the confession and then in 540: she's honest = she has feelings for Naruto/loves him... But still, it's Sasuke = explaining why she thought about him as the one she already loves when she speaks to the lover nin.

Don't forget that Kishi didn't say she loves Naruto in that interview, he said on one hand, that she was being honest, and on an onther hand, that she cared a lot about Naruto but still, it's Sasuke. So, it's logical that she has feelings for Naruto, but she still think about Sasuke as the one she loves.

I strongly disagree with that. You can be fond of someone and not accept or like what they do. Mothers don't stop loving their children just become drug addicts for example.

Karin not having a problem with Sasuke's behaviour is case for worry. He'll try to kill her thrice before breakfast and she'll still worship floor he walks on. That's disturbing.

I am ignoring everyone else's posts because I already know what some of you were going to say. Except for this...

Can you elaborate on that? Again my problem with 540 is that when it comes to romance she immeditaley refers to Sasuke as "the someone else" and yet not the man she gave an honest confession to. If it was honest it gives the impression that she would still prefer to be with Sasuke because she's still in love with him (as elaborated upon by Sai, Karin and Naruto)

When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

-Sherlock Holmes

Four cups...one ball.

Each cup represents a scenario and the ball represent truth.

Cup #1:
-This cup represents absolute truth in meaning that everything Sakura said was the truth and there is no question

Cup #2:
-Only half of it was truth. The half that is the truth was that she actually does love Naruto, but lied about not caring about Sasuke anymore.

Cup #3:
-Like Cup#2, but instead of her confession being the truth, the truth is that she no longer cares about Sasuke.

Cup #4:

-Everything was a lie; The confession, her not caring about Sasuke. It was all a lie.

The name of the game is that the ball of truth is under one of these cups and we have to find it. There is only one ball and that ball has to be under one of these cups. Now Kishimoto said that Sakura was being honest so that eliminates Cup #4. So now we are down to three cups: Cup #1, Cup #2, and Cup #3. Chapter 540 comes out. Several people, and it is obvious who, keep telling me that 540 proves she still holds feelings for Sasuke and that she is still in love with him. That eliminates Cup #1. We are down to Cup #2 and #3.

Looking at 540 again, the idea is that she still holds feelings for Sasuke which means she DOES care about Sasuke. The confession has her saying two important things: 1. She is in love with Naruto. 2. She doesn't care about Sasuke. One of these statements has to be truth as Kishimoto backed this up. Since 540 is supposed to prove that she does care about Sasuke, then that means when she said "I don't care about Sasuke anymore" must be the lie. That eliminates cup #3 and means that the ball has to be under cup #2.

She was truthful about about being in love with him, but lied about something being between her and Sasuke. Also the little details matter even more and make even more sense:
- Naruto only called her a liar AFTER she brought up Sasuke, not before. So that means, if she never mentioned Sasuke at all, Naruto would have believed her entire confession. Also note that people tell me again that Naruto knows Sakura inside and out. Well, if that is the case and the confession itself was the lie, would he thought she was lying even before she mentioned Sasuke? No, he knew something was suspicious after she mentioned Sasuke.
- The fact that Sakura's mental picture of Sasuke is that of a dark tone suggests that something is not as it seems. People want to say that the mere thought of Sasuke and the lover-nin comment makes her all a sudden feel pure love for Sasuke. Why ignoring the absolute visual of the dark tone and flames? Why do we have to ignore this fact? I am certain that if she was really in love, she would have saw him with rainbows and butterflies like Karin does.

- Sakura doesn't trust Sasuke and Sai backs this up by saying that even he can tell. Sai was the one who said that Naruto loves Sakura. He was the one who said she was hiding behind a fake smile about Sasuke. This is not coincidence.

To add: I make comparisons of Sakura to Hinata and Karin. People tell me you cannot compare them. I say "Exactly." You can compare them because you CAN'T compare them. Sakura is not a fangirl like Hinata and Karin is. She is not overly attached to the guy they are after and she is not overly possessive. She just want Naruto to be happy which is more than Hinata and Karin can say about Naruto and Sasuke respectfully. When has Hinata or Karin ever said in anyway "I want to ease their burdens and let them be happy?" Never. All they ever think about is themselves. Meanwhile, Sakura was willing to give up everything for Naruto and the confession is the proof it.

I know people are tired of the 540 argument as am I, but this is me putting it to rest once for all. Whatever you want to believe, know that you cannot have it both ways otherwise nothing else fits.

You cannot describe one side without comparing it to the other side.

when it comes to romance she immeditaley refers to Sasuke as "the someone else" and yet not the man she gave an honest confession to.

That's only half the information though. You keep forgetting that the lover-nin said that that someone else "must be a great guy." Then she thinks about Sasuke in a dark cloak surrounded by flames with a look of regret or uncertainty on her face. Tell me honestly, is that really what that translates to? "Oh Sasuke is a great guy. I love him so much."

If the mere thought of someone proves that she loves someone, then what does that make chapter 573 when she thought about Naruto saying "But no matter what you say, we'll going to be together?"

The problem I see a lot is people keep bringing up only half the information and disregard the other half of it.

I think we all can agree this entire manga is complex and nothing is ever that simple.

Kishimoto loves working with a lot of greys.

You can't really just simplify all the characters by saying: "Sasuke is a crybaby, Naruto is stupid, Hinata is a stalker, Sakura can't make up her mind, Kakashi is a pervert, and Sai is...well, Sai."

Wouldn't it be nice if Naruto and Sasuke fought Madara with their respective partners? As in Naruto teaming up with Sakura and Sasuke teaming up with Karin. Would be exciting to watch though. It won't only serve as a pairing development but as an individual character development as well! I am more interested in Naruto and Sakura tbh, but it will be fun, to watch these pairs in action!
