It's funny, but I both agree with Slextrem and Codus on this one...to a point. High School of the Dead is one of those series however that I find many people look far to into the fan service. I know it exists, but the anime completely over boards it with the fan service more than the manga does. The manga still does it, but again there is an interesting story behind HOTD especially when you get farther into the manga. I do like the mach 5 boobs though mostly because that was an interesting scene in the anime. Sometimes I like over the top stuff. (No Pun intended.) The HOTD manga does do less and less fan-service as the manga goes on.
And you know there are fan service anime/manga aimed towards women as well. Would you say Fruits Basket is full of fan-service too? Seeing how a lot of the guys get naked more often than not.
So, Codus while I do agree with you that people's opinion of an anime shouldn't be based on fan-service alone there are some that are nothing, but fan-service and these kind of stories I tend to avoid myself. I am not totally against fan-service, but I hate it when it is unnecessary.
Slextrem: I know how you feel about that as there are some I got turned off of due to fan-service, but I have known people to utterly despise and beat down an anime or manga simply because of the fan-service not knowing there is a story there. I know you are not one of these people, but just saying that it is urksome when my intelligence gets attacked by some simply because I like High School of the Dead.
I find the fan service in HOTD a plot element in the story. Believe it or not, we are dealing with teenagers in a post-apocalyptic world. Sometimes the sexual connotations shows that they are still human. They retain a humanity not unlike the zombies or the crazy people who relish in violence. It also creates a sort of tension relief for the characters. I don't know about the others, but for HOTD I actually find it to be an important point to the story. Even one of the characters makes a point to it about how Takashi might be going insane and Saeko says "I will do anything to prevent that from happening. I am not going to reject my womanhood."
Take that as you will, but to me it kind of shows how the characters deal with things.
Okay?

. Although Codus, if I may say, I think you need a chill a bit man. You have been very "matter-of-factly" lately and I can see it when you make post at times. It is a mistake I know and I know you don't mean it, but might need to take a break from the forum if you feel stressed. Everyone has an opinion and Slextrem just wanted to say hers and not to put anyone down. She doesn't like that sort of stuff and we must respect that. As long as she understands the other view point, and I know she does, it's fine.
