At least that's true to the story. Minus the singing. I don't even know what they're doing in Naruto. Probably have Sasuke beat Gaara single handily to save the princess, eyes open and all. Anyway, yeah, this makes sense.

Bolt is not a teenager yet, we've seen how teens interact with their parents in the original Naruto - it is not anything like this, and we only have one scene of Himawari so we have no idea of her relationship with her dad.

I'm going to assume the mini-series is the introduction. Well, it has to do a lot because if it's light and lack thereof, then the care on them in the movie is going to be so low. It feels like Kishi got nothing on this series, or rather not going to put a lot of effort to it. He probably only wanting to do the movie to get his point across and that's it. I just don't see any hype for this one. Like where is the info? Where is the small plot? What is it?
