Hello everyone, this is my first post in this awesome forum!
so, does anyone really think sai misunderstood naruto's feelings for sakura?
I don't see how anyone could come to this conclusion. As far as I'm concerned Naruto's feelings for Sakura are pretty clear and hard to deny. Sai couldn't possibly have misunderstood Naruto's feelings, because Naruto implicitely confirmed them. It's a simple matter of following the conversation: Sai asks him if he likes Sakura and if he told her how he feels, Naruto acts flustered and blushes due to how sudden and intimate the question is, then he says "how could I...". It's really obvious: it's supposed to be "how could I confess, I can't even keep my promises".
I don't buy that "how could I tell her she's my friend" interpretation, it's just too farfetched and feels more like purposefully trying to find a way around an undesirable fact than just reading the manga the way it's intended to be read. Because why would Naruto even tell Sakura he thinks of her as a friend? They ACT like friends constantly. If he really felt unworthy of her friendship, he wouldn't hang out with her or make small talk or anything of the sorts. As I said it doesn't make any sense.
So, really, denying Naruto's feelings at this point seem pretty pointless. The real question is: what are Sakura's feelings for Naruto? And it's true that confession threw a wrench into the whole thing. If she really doesn't like Naruto that way, then what does she feel? Is it really simply siblings love? What separates that supposed siblings love from romantic love then? Is it only physical attraction, which is why NS can't happen? This seems like a pretty weak reason, especially as on a couple of occasions Sakura was shown to be pretty attracted to Naruto, like when she first saw him after the timeskip, or recently when she watched him sleep with the cliche "he looks cute when asleep" look on her face. So really, I want Sakura to come clean and put into words the feelings she has for Naruto. Because even haters will admit she cares a great deal for him.
Anyway, I still have hopes for NaruSaku. I still think it's the pairing that makes the most sense storywise (I'll elaborate on that later if anyone's interested), but it doesn't mean it's going to be canon 100%, or that you should stop enjoying it even if it doesn't happen. I know even if they don't end up together, I'll still like it in fanon. So relax people, and just enjoy the ride.
