You know how in suspenseful and dramatic mystery movies, there would always be this one suspicious character, but it would turn out to be the one character you'd least expect to commit the crime? That's a "red herring". The author will intentionally mislead readers in order to catch them by surprise. That's all it is (and it's a falsely used argument thus far, IMO).

Herrings are small, oily fish of the genus Clupea found in the shallow, temperate waters of-
Just kidding.
Red Herring
As far as I know, they meant the NaruSaku hints are nothing but Kishimoto trying misleading fandom reagarding who will get together with who.
Now, NS hints have been constantly thrown around from the beginning, they have always led to further development in the relationship and they still affects the plot heavily. The last chapters have proved that. On the other hand, NH hints have been always scarce, always one-sided, and... well... Do you remember what happened when Naruto met Hinata after the timeskip? Or when Hinata and Naruto were temporarily together during one mission? Or when Hinata confessed? NH fans claimed all of these were hints foreshadowed a romance between them. Yet no one of those "hint" led to anything.
Thus, tell me: what does it sound more misleading: NH or NS?
What does sound more misleading: Sakura shouting Naruto's name after Konoha's destruction or Hinata confessing? After Naruto arrived and saved everybody, she hugged him and thanked him. After Hinata confessed, Naruto hasn't talked to or thought about her, Hinata has vanished -again- and Naruto has shown -again- he's in love with Sakura.
I repeat: what does it sound more misleading: NH or NS?
By the way, I haven't read the last chapter but after hearing about chapter 457 and 458 I just HAD to read the spoilers. Can someone tell me if NH fans are already cursing and hating Naruto for not loving Hinata back?
It'd be very annoying -character-bashing always is-, but people is always bashing characters for anything, including Naruto... and I'd guffaw.
Anyway, I HOPE the "Naruto isn't in love with Sakura, she's like his sister" idiocy and the "Naruto is in love with Sasuke, not with Sakura" nosense has been forever shattered, destroyed and obliterated.
No bloody likely, knowing how fandom is, but I can always dream...

Do you want to take over the world, huh? Well, you'll have to go through us first!

Just because the only "established" relationship is practically an abusive one doesn't mean I have to like it >.> Sure it was amusing the first time, but now, it's just boring and old.
Also, I DO read the manga. I never said Hinata has no negatives. She is shy and practically spineless in Part 1 until the Chuunin Exams, when Naruto cheered for her. Even then she still failed to win her fight. Her shyness kept her from approaching him in the beginning, even though she very much wanted to. At least she didn't treat him like dirt, like everybody else in the village did (including Sakura, who was practically abusive towards him).
I don't think the fact that Hinata hasn't visibly shown concern for any other female is MEANT to be shown as a "negative telling point", as you call it. She's a major character, yes, but not a MAIN character. Compared to Sakura, she has had very limited time in both manga and anime for actual development. Also, I'm pretty sure Hinata has trust in Naruto. Of course she's going to worry about him, since she actually cares for him. He's her number one person in life. She was there for him in Part 1, if I remember, when he confessed to her how nervous he was and she told him she believed in him or something like that. If I remember right, that was when he told her that he liked people like her.
Before you start ranting at me again, know this: I like Sakura. She's one of my favorite characters. Do I like her personality in the beginning? No, not at all. She was shallow, judgmental, and selfish - in short, a typical little girl. She's been a lot better in Part 2, which I like. Do I like her and Naruto as a couple? No, I don't. I have always found them to have more of a sibling-like relationship than a romantic one, nor can I see Sakura honestly all of a sudden deciding she's madly in love with Naruto. Nor was Naruto's crush on her ever built upon, unlike her relationship with Sasuke, or Hinata's relationship with Naruto. Their FRIENDSHIP was built upon, yes, but romance? No.

Siblings again? Yay!! ..../sarcasm
Sakura suddenly falling in love with Naruto? Obviously she/he hasn't been reading the manga if they think that is what would happen if they become a couple.

Kishimoto:
''Whew, there, I'm done with chapter 297 and developing Naruto and Sakura's relationship over the entire series for now. I think that's enough plot development for one day. Tomorrow, I'm going to ruin and destroy all that hard work I've done by making Hinata say she loves Naruto even though she barely knows him beyond what she's seen him do while spying on him and despite the fact that Naruto doesn't even have romantic feelings for her. Yeah, Sakura just suddenly vanished.''
And here's what Naruto's thinking;
''Wow, Hinata loves me, huh? Well, I'd better go return her feelings 'cause I've been TOTALLY in love with her throughout this entire series! Sakura who?''
I mean, it makes sense, guys. Yeah, just totally forget chapter 457 happened. I hear from Viz media that Masashi was high when he wrote that chapter anyways, so it's GOTTA be true! It's not like Naruto blatantly confessed to Sai that he's got feelings for Sakura! Pssshhh! And forget what Sai keeps saying about his books, I mean Sai's gay and really pale so what does he know anyway?
And don't forget Sakura cried when Karui asked her what Sasuke was to her. I mean, it's not like Sakura can do anything but cry anyway. There's NO possibility that her tears meant she was confused and didn't even know how she felt about Sasuke! DUH!
(Oh, yeah, by the way, in case you couldn't tell?
I was being sarcastic

And she throws around the "they are siblings!" allegation and the "Sakura falling in love all of sudden right now" blindness-born idiocy? Sigh.
Instead of trying twisting facts so they fit in his/her preconceptions he/she should try drawing conclusions BASING on the facts, not the other way around. This person should take off his/her Shipper Blindness Sunglasses, read again the manga and wondering if such-and-such scene couldn't imply romantic development after all.
Naruto has stated, thought and shown he is in love with Sakura since the beginning. He has just restated that fact. Instead of telling "It can't be because she's like his sister!", he/she should ponder "I was wrong then. He's in love with her".
So Sailor Moon and Saiyuki were his/her first mangas? That explains much. EVERYTHING, in fact.
I reckon if this person allegedly watched the Sailor Moon cartoon (which I started watching back in 1994, by the way. It got aired in my country way earlier than in USA), she would think Sailor Mars hated Sailor Moon, right?
After all, Mars was always insulting and critisizing Moon, and fighting with her and claiming she hated her and wasn't her friend.
So what if Usagi trusted Rei more than she did the remainder Sailor Senshi? So what if Rei forfeited her life in order to save Usagi in the first season? So what if she cried when she thought Usagi was dead in the first movie? She was always picking on her.
So what if it was comic relief? So what if a common cliche in shonen and shojo manga is having two persons are bickering constantly but in reality they are good friends or care for each other deep down? Classic storytelling clichés have absolutely no bearing in a discussion involving classic storytelling clichés.
Edit:
I find inmensely hilarious if you tell you don't like NaruHina they try proving you hate Hinata.
So if you don't like NaruSaku you hate Naruto? And if you don't like SasuIno you hate Sasuke?

So if you don't like NaruSaku you hate Naruto? And if you don't like SasuIno you hate Sasuke?
Yes. That's exactly it.
But seriously, even if they try to prove that...who really cares if you hate Hinata? I freely admit I don't like her. So my response is, yeah I don't like her, so what?

Yo I don't know about you guys but I'm betting by Hoiday season we will know where Sakura's feellings for Naruto will lie. Hopefully Kishi can present a emotion of romance love! If so then from November - January
