Such an expression is used when something has become more powerful than before, which is not appropriate if the intention was to establish Sakura's feelings as platonic.
Viz didn't even try to make it vague, they literally chose to deliver to opposite meaning about Sakura's feelings. That level of mistranslation should not be done, which is why I asked if there was a chance one could unintentionally twist the meaning in the original raw to imply that Sakura's feelings for Sasuke got stronger.
