I just thought of a question.
I read on tumblr the idea that Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke are supposed to surpass their respective sannin mentors. For instance, someone wrote that Sakura was supposed to surpass Tsunade by letting go of the past (in essence, being able to move on from Sasuke to love Naruto instead), which I think is very plausible.
However, it also got me thinking. Jiraya loved Tsunade until the day he died - we all know this. He never was able to move on from her. Could it be said that Naruto is supposed to surpass Jiraya by being able to move on from Sakura? Does any one of you have any evidence that Naruto is NOT meant to move on from her?

You could say this, but don't think that's the case at all. It's a bit late for this to happen, especially considering Sakura is on the verge of falling for Naruto. When you look at it all, what possible way would he move on from her at this point.
- Hinata confessed, and his feelings were unchanged
- Hinata sacrificed her life, and his feelings were unchanged in both the confession and in 615.
- He held her hand, and it was one sided
After all of that, nothing. At this point, it's pretty apparent that he'll likely never have any romantic interest in her. Naruto will succeed where Jiraiya didn't. He'll finally get the girl. Also you have to look at the other parallels. MinaKushi being the biggest one. Kushina wants him to find a girl like herself. That's Sakura. Everything adds up when you look at the bigger picture. If Kishi didn't want Sakura to fall for Naruto, moments like her confession, the gf comment, and soooo many others wouldn't have happened.

I think is would be possible to think that IF Tsunade wasn't about to give him a chance. Tsunade was going to give him that date when he came back but he never did so I think that says a lot.
Also I think it is a better theme to have Naruto surpass his master by actually getting the girl and having a happy ending with her, every other parallel with NaruSaku either never gets to the point of romance (JirTsu) or ends with a tragedy due to circumstances (MinaKushi), the best way for Naruto AND Sakura to surpass the old generation is to get to the level of romance and in the end have a happy ending. This allows Naruto to get the girl and for Sakura to let go of her past crush.
Just my thoughts

I get what you meant great post.
I read Strider post he also made some good point but it was more about Sakura not allowing her past to consume and stop her from finding happiness, Naruto to finally achieve what he wanted, save is friend and get the girl, Sasuke would be able to make a better choice with his life and finally accept and acknowledge his friend, sadly this didn't have anything to do with Hinata.

This was a really silly reply to a great post.
I know you're joking but I still wanted to say that.

Thanks!
Yeah I agree with saving Sasuke too, that is another thing to add to the whole "surpassing the previous generation" theme, he would succeed where Hashi and Jiraiya failed by saving Sasuke.
I think Sasuke acknowledging Naruto is the last step to his redemption, and with that acknowledgement he would accept that Naruto does have what it takes to change things for the better and accept him becoming the Hokage. This all just fits perfectly with the theme, and yep Hinata doesn't really fit anywhere in there

Wow, I didn't even realize that conversation was in the manga, haha ^^;I think that the "new generation will surpass the old generation" comment would be about Sakura not hesitating like Tsunade did and Naruto not cutting short the chance at a relationship. If you notice the conversation between Jiraiya and Tsunade in chapter 367, you'll see what I mean.

Why is it we all think naruto and Sakura will have a negotiation about their relationship, instead of just falling in love with each other Naturally much like mina/kushi

I just realised... Naruto told Sai he couldn't confess to Sakura because he couldn't keep his promise. Now that Sasuke is back, wouldn't that mean Naruto has no more excuses?I am also still expecting a full on confession from Naruto, he did say he couldn't confess to her if he couldn't even keep a promise.
If Sasuke truly is back and they fight that could lead to Naruto finally confessing on his own to Sakura, and then of course she will accept the confession and then

That depends. Is Sasuke truly good or fully good, not half (due to his attitude for trying to be Hokage)? Will he stay good until the very end of the war? If Sasuke is a-ok throughout, which seems a bit unlikely thanks to Juugo, then yeah, he can confess, but not now of course.I just realised... I wonder thou if Naruto read sasuke's mind, or his intentions at least. Maybe Juugo doesn't know what he is thinking but Naruto sure can. Thou that is something to be seen in the future.
