To be honest I've never seen the whole Shikamaru and Temari thing as a indication that they will end up together. Something is missing, it just doesn't click. And for that I believe if we are going to see another pairing besides NaruSaku, it will be ShikaIno.

 

Well, In shuppuden Temari and Shikamaru so get along VERY well. and occasionally have a scene together... so its more teasing than hinting so I can see where you are comming from on that. ShikaIno on the other hand you don't really get a lot of panels on... Or at least I am yet to see any. It does have the {Same team} advantage like NS though so Like ShikaTema I can see where you are comming from.

 

What do I prefer? ..... well to be honest I rather like ShikaTema, just the designs of these characters looks right for them to be together. Despite being from different nations.... but hey, when has THAT ever stopped to souls from loving one another?  but that dose beg the question, If Shikamaru gets Temari then who will she have? She definatlly has no romantic interest (or any interest at all) for Choji so InoCho is out, Sasuke has Karin So SI can be struck out, the only one I can realy think of is Sai, and he is harder to read than a ruined book in skyrim.

 

Now with that said lets have a word about the OTHER pairings, even thought I HATE her to the depths of my soul..... I do wonder who Hinata will end up with (no one deserves to be alone in their life, not even the most hated of characters). The only male characters left are Kiba, Lee, Shino, And Neji. Neji may be here cousin, but that's has not stopped lovers in japan before (as creepy as that sounds). So maybe we could see NejiHina as an end game pairing. Shino shows NO emotion what so ever (except for that one episode in act I where he got drugged) so He's out. Lee doesn't really interact with her so He's out too. That only leaves Kiba, Kiba and hinata do have thier moments (as a team that is) and they have the {same team} advantage. so I'd say its a bit of a tie between NejiHina and KibaHina, unless Hinata decides to be a lesbian somewhere down the line ( boy would THAT rile up the NH fans   ). as for Tenten..... Lee, something about that just seems right. I know its common, but Its what I think.

 

so what are your hopes/ideas for pairings for the end of Naruto Shippuden? I would like to know.

I favour InoxChouji, because wouldn't it be a beautiful development? Her fatphobia was way back in part 1, I doubt she still thinks the same way. 

 

Yes, it would be beautiful.  The formerly vapid, superficial Ino ending up loving the guy with less than perfect looks but a big heart of gold. 

 

Ino has changed.  She has grown up a lot, just like all the other rookies.

 

But what indication does ShikaIno have?

 

Zero, in my opinion.

 

But there has been quite a bit of personal interaction between Shikamaru and Temari throughout the story.  Particularly in Part I, when Shikamaru was coming of age and struggling with his abilities/future as a ninja and leader.  Temari was also instrumental in his fight against Tayuya.

 

Meanwhile, all their interaction was going on while Shikamaru was also questioning love and romantic relationships, and his father told him, "No matter how strong-minded a woman is, she will show kindness to the man she loves."  

 

That concept was rather obviously mirrored in Temari's behavior toward Shikamaru, first criticizing his attitude after his first leadership mission (to retrieve Sasuke) failed, but then showing him sympathy.

 

It's also interesting (to me, at least) that we have often gotten a panel of Temari's reaction when Shikamaru has had a big moment during the war arc.

 

In contrast, I have seen nothing between Shikamaru and Ino that I would consider more than a sibling-like bond.  They care about each other and work well together, honoring the historical collaboration of their clans, but nothing personal or special that compares with his experiences with Temari.

 

Besides, I've always felt it's Choji who is sweet on Ino.  Either way, I'd be surprised if Kishimoto does anything with any of it, even at the end.  But he might.

@TyranntX The pairing between Shikamaru and Temari, I really don't know what to say. I mean we've seen that Shikamaru thinks his mother is scary and later on he said the same thing about Temari, we've seen Naruto asking Shikamaru if he is on a date with Temari in early part 2, we saw some moments that could be interpreted as hints for that pairing. However like I told @sushi. I just don't see it. And I don't have a straight answer simply because I really don't have an answer.

To me the pairings have always been the following: Naruto and Sakura, Shikamaru and Ino, Lee and Mickey Mouse and well Hinata either Neji or Kiba.

 

 

@BlueStarSaber Well considering the fact that we have two Rinnegan's on the battlefield and we've seen that Obito was going to use it to bring back everyone who died. I say Neji coming back is pretty much confirmed.

Well with what Black Zetsu did to Obito implies that we are not going to get another bring back everyone to live moment and that Madara would be the last time that justu is used in the series. Obito is most likely to die after saving Naruto, while Madara could use it I don't think he will as I see him going down in a more kakazu route.

No I don't think so with how it appears Gai is dying I don't see that happening.

Neji should stay dead. It really would leave an awful taste in my mouth to see Kishi do a deus ex machina again. Still can't get over the Pein arc.

Shikamaru and Temari is possible though unlikely since I recall someone saying that Kishi confirmed Shikamaru and Temari won't be getting together, besides it would be kind of a long distance relationship wouldn't it?

I have to agree with KnS on this one, everything mentioned in his/her post was beautifully said. I ship Shikamaru x Temari as well.. she really ties into Shikamaru's "troublesome woman" trope perfectly. As much as he complains about it, we all know that's what he's really into.

So if we see Shikamaru with someone in, say, an epilogue or something, it could be Temari.  She wasn't ruled out specifically -- nor was anyone else.  Kishimoto just said he wasn't going to write a romance for Shikamaru in the current story.

He meant he didn't want to write romance for Shikamaru in the Naruto manga.  He wasn't making a sweeping generalization that he never wants to write any romance ever.
