If there's one thing I learned from Sorachi is that he don't see his work as a gag manga, rather as a manga and I got to respect him for that because sometimes, if you're subjected to that one genre, then you may not take any risk since it's acknowledged to be just that. True, some people should remain in one area when one fails to do other, but with Sorachi, it's like he has a lot in mind to do with many genres, but decided to do all of them in this series.

The way he handles his story and characters is already explained in my LAP. Long story short, he does it really well and carefully because one would think that character will disappear altogether, only for them to return in an impactful way or continue to showcase themselves. I have read the volume editions, so I have read some info of his characters as he point out that there are strong characters that you may not guess it because of their status. You know, the gag aspect and all. But when they get into combat, Sorachi's words are indeed correct. As for the story, it's also handled really well because as I said before, he has a unique way to expose his characters further with comedy that really blends perfectly. When there is a serious arc, you will get a stronger impact of them, so you rarely feel like you're getting nothing out of it. Even when there's no development, the story of how it's told is what makes it worth while.

As for comparison with Bleach and Naruto War Arcs, there's no comparison. Gintama was straight to the point, exciting, nerve wrecking, intensity, and meaningful. It was the shortest out of the two, but it doesn't need to be long to make it "epic." Bleach dragged a lot, got boring in places, and anti-climatic final fight. Naruto is a train wreck that doesn't know what story it wants to tell. Gintama did everything right. I made one last LAP on it and I can't believe USA is missing out stuff like this. Viz cancelled it for reasons that weren't explained, but now anime is getting big once more, it's time to reintroduce it. Lastly, it was also better than One Piece and that one I thought it was the best War Arc in WSJ. It doesn't say much on that genre in WSJ, but Gintama nailed it.

I thought the way it handled ninja made me laugh a lot at Naruto. That's all you need to know. But really, it was realistically done so well. What made me thought this series can't be Shounen was the explanation of how Zenzou planned to save Shogun. At first, when he said he killed a copy, I was like, "What a relief." Then after he explained it, I was like, "!!!" I was going around "This is dark! Dude! Someone! Crack a joke, please!!!" Side note: he was awesome in that arc.

How I felt about the last two arcs? I felt that there's no other series touching this for a long time in WSJ. When it's get animated, and I know it will be done well, I think everyone is going to be heavily invested and even though it can't be anime of the year, it can be honorable mention because it's really that good. This series kept giving me fear and tears for many breaking points that I once had with One Piece. I mean it can still do it, but the problem is he keeps doing people will die and then they die, only to escape death. Here, it's more of they are near dead and you don't know if they will take that one last hit. That's real fear and that's what really sucks you in.

I didn't expect it to be this good. I didn't expect it to be in one of my top favorite series of all time.

I can see why people love Sorachi so much. I have read his interviews and he came off genuinely funny and really nice guy that really feels like he don't see himself above, rather as a kid. Or a gorilla. You got to remember, even if you say the votes came from popularity exposure, it beat One Piece, a Titan of manga. That's saying a lot. It says a lot when a mangaka beat the more well known work from a mangaka. That said I do respect him a lot as well.

It certainly does feel like a Seinen at times and I do think he gets away with it with the comedy and morals. Even so, the factors of darkness in here is noticeably strong. The ending of Shogun Arc was depressing and the way it happened was so messed up. It would have been a One Piece happy level of ending, but no, Sorachi had to be realistic and brought a dark ending that really says, "No world is safe." It was a great storytelling of his sister talking about his brother to the end and it was just sad. To make matters worse, everyone felt crap and Zenzou's ending was just upsetting because in the end, it was all in vein but only one thing has changed: he's a sinner. That's a dark turn and I wonder what's he like now with all that has happened. Then the whole Kondo being executed in work was just killing me. It wasn't the same again.

Well, I could see what you mean about Bansai because it does make sense on how he is. That said well, I could see it happening at some point but I guess we just have to wait.

In ep 92, there is a five mins of explanation about how anime can catch up manga's progress so it's the production team's business to take care of that (like in Nrt, there are fillers every once a while). How is it in Gintama? How is the gap between the manga and anime? Does Sunrise succeed to keep the pace without bothering the manga or what?

They do. Sunrise often make a fake last episode each passing season. Also, they have that continuation storyline of how to produce a good manga, so you already saw first one. Anyway, there are fillers but not like how Naruto does it with constant filler like one after another and it can take 20 episodes before we get to see the light of canon. Gintama does it one or two before going canon. The gap was never too close, though if it were, they did a really good job on not getting too close to force themselves to do filler hell.

As of today, the gap is pretty big, so they're good for two more cour. Plus when there's filler, it leaves a gap for them to shot fire other series, mangaka, and even among themselves.

You mean the filler is in short story like some episode that has two short stories? I know some of it, it's like when they decide about Gintama name in the first ep of its year 2, right?

I read the manga. Trust me, every small hints is valuable in this series. It also makes a lot of sense. So with Bansai, well I can see why you said that and I agree, I wonder that day will come.

In one episode, they were trying to end the episode super quick because they don't have many materials since the gap was closing in and they blamed the director to have the show going when they can just take a break. That's the thing that save Gintama many times. It's very self-aware. Like how one character is revealed that, Gintoki goes like "Holy crap! What a revelation! But where does that leave us with our heroine?!" Stuff like acknowledging always make me forgive them. That's why Naruto is so cringeworthy. They act like it's normal and no one question otherwise.

The thing about Gintama and its fillers is that you can't actually recognize if the episode is actually a filler or not bc it feels like its a canon material they're very consistent and spot on with the character's original characterization , that's how good Gintama is and the Studio bc they know their kitten and what they're doing  .

Its episode 227  its a Parody/Crossover with Sket Dance . I think Sket Dance anime also made a Gintama Crossover  .

They did. The vice versa felt odd but that's only because Gintama in that universe is hard to make out of it.

Yeah I just checked on youtube to make sure and saw it , browsed through the comments as well and the general opinion is that they did really bad . But you're right its very hard to do it in any anime I think bc its so unique . so in their defense its  Gintama after all  they're experts in doing parody/crossovers  its their thing they sh.t on everything and everyone with no regrets whatsoever  .

It's that Gintama environment is easy for other to get into it. It also helps that the assistant of Gintama Sorachi is the one that made Sket Dance, so it's easy to click.
