It want clear how much damage was done to Luffy by the awakening, and it is conceivable that Luffy would have a hard time trying to get to Doflamingo, because the environment itself was turned to string and could be manipulated. His attack last chapter might have been one of a little opportunities that he might have had.
You have a point lol
so luffy had a hard time getting through to doffy for 20 mins when he's been shown to brush off awakening like it was nothing. all doffy has to do is outlast luffy in gear 4 and that's it.

holy cow what an utter waste. now we gotta deal with fodders trying to fight doffy? gtfo oda!
On the plus side, as I said, it looks like Doffy is damn near almost dead. If you look at the page whee he's walking, there's the "wobble" thing, he can barely stand. Luffy said that he needed one more shot to beat Doflamingo. I honestly believe that during the timeskip, Liffy could barely hit Doflamingo because of his awakening, and one of the only hits he could get was the Lion Bazooka. Doflamingo got lucky, he was about to snuff it, if Luffy had landed one more shot, it was over. I don't think the fight against the fodders will last long, watch Doflamingo one panel them all in his anger next chapter lol

Well, he wasn't shown to brush it off, he was shown to be avoiding it. I think that he spent a large amount of his time looking for an opening to attack.so luffy had a hard time getting through to doffy for 20 mins when he's been shown to brush off awakening like it was nothing. all doffy has to do is outlast luffy in gear 4 and that's it.

ahk what do you think of this?
Koshiro really seems like a nice guy despite being sexist.
I for one think the extended flashback seems canon I have read somewhere that Oda actually gave some advices and story ideas of the extended episodes of the first episodes (something like buggy and shanks not naming rayleigh captain).
I think Koshiro helping Dragon could have had a bigger role than it seemed on Kuina's apparent death.

So maybe, it's not that Luffy wasn't able to beat him, what if Doflamingo had some of mansherry' tears or something and has been healing himself?

well if doffy looks dead then luffy looks like ashes. but luffy didn't get that shot because doffy was still good enough to outlast luffy. big attacks like king gun kong, lion bazooka, artillery cannon and python isn't enough to completely waste doffy, even when law already gave luffy a head start. doffy is a damn tank.

brushing it off as in getting rid of it with a simple head butt. luffy made it look so easy and yet he had problems putting doffy down for 20 mins?

Also, Luffy, I saw something interesting on opbay. Take a look at the second panel. Notice how Doflamingo seems to be rubbing something on himself:

it's too hard to make out what he's doing. i see a crack so i'll guess he's cracking his knuckles because of awakening???

True, which is why I suggested yesterday that maybe we've underrated Doflamingo? Maybe he's closer to Emperor level than we thought. He had no qualms in fighting aokiji a little while ago, who in turn, had no qualms in fighting the strongest emperor himself in Whitebeard. So even though Doflamingo was apprehensive towards fighting Kaido, maybe the actual fight would be much closer than we thought.it's too hard to make out what he's doing. i see a crack so i'll guess he's cracking his knuckles because of awakening???
Maybe, but maybe that was Luffys only opportunity? I don't know why there was a timeskip, but whatever went on in that timeskip was important, I definitely think that a lot of it had to do with the awakening.
Well, his fingers don't look like they're actually in a position to crack though, they're straight, not flexed. You might be right though, but then that still doesn't explain the fizzle sound effect thing (the "fsssshhh" thing) in the speech bubble at the bottom of the panel.
Here's the image:
If you look closely, his outline has those little wiggle lines, showing that he's shaking while walking, and the two "wobble" things in the speech bubbles suggest he's having trouble walking. He's probably swaying while he walks, he's definitely in a ton of pain.

close to emperor? hell no! his ass was getting tossed around by luffy lol.
i guess we'll find out what that cracking is next chapter?
oh, now i see it. thanks. now i'm not entirely sure he can easily mop the floor with the fodders if he's wobbling.

Not close, but definitely closer than we originally thought. Which might make Luffy closer than we thought as well.close to emperor? hell no! his ass was getting tossed around by luffy lol.

Maybe. I think this arc is done in like 5 chapters or so.
Maybe if he's really angry he can't that's what I expect to happen.

i don't think neither are close to an emperor. doffy would get his ass beat by all admirals and white beard would use him for toilet paper, same with luffy. xD
ugh please end already :(
doffy will need a cane if he's having a hard time walking.

Uuuuuuuuuuh, Okay................... fodder will be stalling for the MC to recharge? Where have we seen this before? Ah well, this is still the incomparably superior series to that wasted effort *honk honk* so I can forgive this, especially since I want to see Sabo and Luffy interact now!

I'm not saying that they're close, I'm just saying that we might have underrated him. They're still possibly a sizable distance away, but rue gap might not be as large as we once thought.i don't think neither are close to an emperor. doffy would get his ass beat by all admirals and white beard would use him for toilet paper, same with luffy. xD

I want to see how the fight ends, it's almost over.
@phantom, I don't have much interest in any Luffy/sabo interaction unless sabo is groveling on his knees begging for Luffy's forgivness. He better have a really good reason for not being there to save ace

One piece fodder are more interesting than Naruto fodder.

Sabo has been shown that he regrets not being there, Koala asks him if him being there would have actually changed anything. Besides im sure the revolutionary army didnt want to get involved and the fact that Sabo is 2nd in command and Ivan was already on the battlefield they probably assumed Luffy would make it out.

emperors have way more hype than doffy has ever gotten. they rule the new world. the way oda has been hyping them up we are suppose to be afraid of them, and rightfully i am! i expect them to be top tiers. sure i may have underrated doffy because of what luffy has been doing to him, but i still think the gap is huge between the emperors and doffy/luffy.
amen on that last part. i already can't stand sabo, so if his excuse doesn't make sense it'll only cement that he's only there to replace ace, a poor replacement at that.
