Personally, I like how in-your-face Makorra is. We get enough ambiguity from NaruSaku as it is; it's just a nice change of pace to be rooting for a totally obvious ship. I kinda hope that Makorra becomes the Sokka/Suki of The Legend of Korra, in terms of them being a couple for a while, not hooking up at the last minute like Kataang.

I can somewhat agree, but I don't want them to hook up really early either. Say, if the show lasts about 26 episodes like I heard that it would, I would prefer that they don't hook up until at least episode 15 or later.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it yet. I like a little romantic tension in my pairings, and some wondering a bit of "will-they-won't-they". Mako/Korra is just so...so...blatant XD

There's like no thrill or anxious anticipation to it at all, not like Kataang was. Katara rejected Aang so much, and then of course there was the whole Zutara thing, and it was only at the very end we were able to get off the edge of our anticipating-hopeful-pairing seats, and cheer Katang finally getting together

I'm not getting that with Mako/Korra though it will probably be the pairing I ship, as they do look damn good together, and the obvious chemistry between them is quite fun to watch ;3

Jokes aside, I don't mind Mako/Korra being the main couple, after all, I see no problems in their relationship, but I agree that they shouldn't hook up too soon. Perhaps half way through the series.

Honestly I think they decided to go this route of basicaly clubbing viewers over the head with the canon pairing so early because they felt they had to. Somehow when they made Aang and Katara so blaringly obvious in the first episode it got translated by fans to her secretly being in love with Zuko of all people whose sole romatic gesture to her in seaosn 1 was trying to get her to give up the avatar by extorting her with her mothers necklace.

this time looks like they decied to club the audiece upside the head with a clue by 4 to insure no misunderstandings.

The series so far seems a lot darker that Avatar: Airbender was, though they do try adding enough good humour to try to mellow out the darkness a bit. I agree that the Mako/Korra is pretty in your face, and blatantly obvious that that's the direction they want to take the characters. Also the most glaring detail that kept popping into my mind every time Mako was on the screen was just how much he resembles Zuko. And it just made me wonder if the creators had decided to hold out a bit of an olive branch to all the Zuko/Katara fans by making Mako (even his name ends like Zuko) look like Zuko a bit, and pair him up with the main character Korra, like Katara was paired up with Aang the main character of the predecessor show.

Actually, Mako was named after the late voice-actor of Iroh. ^^

No wai Sakura Blossoms. The resemblence between Mako and Zuko was one of the very first things I noticed, so you're not the only one. I also noted the deliberate naming of the character Mako, and thought it was very appropriate.
I don't really consider myself a shipper, but along the lines of the romantic interest discussion, I would like to see a romance develop between Mako and Korra. I like the whole "opposites attract" motif, and I think that's what they are going for in this storyline. They balance each other out.

I like how they're doing something completely different from the first series. Not that it was bad, I just didn't want a carbon copy. I like how they added technology yet did not antagonize it. That would have been the easy way out.
