From the sounds of it, Mikage doesn't believe in herself enough. The random rider said she was good in practice, but kept slipping up in official competitions. She's definitely uncertain about what she wants to do with her future, she was resigned to taking over her family's farm, but Hachiken's words seem to be having an effect on her.

And so Silver Spoon reaches its half-century!

Silver Spoon 50

There won't be any chapter next week, but the school festival begins when the manga returns. smile.gif

Nice! I really enjoy this light-hearted manga. Good piece to read after coming home from a stressful day.

Geez this manga is so funny!

the antics of Chestnut, making Hachiken feel bad;
the curly blonde girl popping into the corner of the panel saying "Ho Ho, a rival should be nothing less!" about Mikage;
the snickering two on the fence after the older boy makes one mistake putting him behind Mikage, with the one boy busting his chops about "over time by less than a tenth of a second. What are you doing out there?";
then the next page, he gets him back with "I hope you never find a job!"
It's so subtly funny. Just clever - cleverly written and illustrated. The expressions never fail to amaze me at how the capture the emotion of the moment so well.

Again, it's crazy to think this is the same author of FMA. The two are so radically different, but each is so enjoyable.

Chapter 51: http://www.mangaread...lver-spoon/51/2

I love how Tamako aways look like the ultimate beauty when she loses weight, only for her to gain more fat next chapter and return us to the harsh reality.

Wow, what a chapter this was!

Some wonderful moments, like the Hachiken celebration page that I laughed so much at, and Mikage's eventual realisation that Hachiken had asked her out on a date.

So, we're seeing the start of HachiMika? Hachiken's blackout is definitely a dramatic cliffhanger. I think the festival will go absolutely fine as he organised everything and he made notes of everything for everyone to look at, and they'll all want to pull together and make sure it goes great. The worry is that he'll miss out on the whole thing, and I wonder if Mikage will take her time visiting him in hospital as she feels awkward.

Soooo good. Love the page with him excited about the festival. Had to look over it a few times to find all the versions of him, plus a lot of the other characters crammed in there.

Oh, look at this, mr. douchbag has arrived. If things weren't bad enough for Hachiken.

Damn. Hachiken Senior is plain scary to look at. I've got this foreboding feeling that he'll try to drag Hachiken back to Sapporo.

It's good to see Mikage taking charge, hopefully they'll be able to visit Hachiken in hospital soon! It's obvious that no-one has been able to visit him yet, because they've all been so busy with the festival.

Oh crap, Hachiken's dad freaked me out! So random! I was thinking he'd look older and somewhat generic, but man, he looks like Scar or a younger King Bradley...which is ominous.

Chapter 54: http://www.mangaread...lver-spoon/54/2

I was expecting Hachiken father to slap him at any second. I'm Surprised that he didn't. Hachiken family is obviously the superficial type that only care about keeping appearances an their social status.

The Hachiken family has issues. The father's a complete jerk and the older brother is always running away. Shingo should have ignored his father and visited his brother instead of walking out of the hospital. :/

I hope something good happens next chapter, Yugo could do with a friendly face to cheer him up and help restore his confidence.

Ooooo! I'm glad that there was a pothole that Hachiken didn't see with attending the school. Now it's time for soul searching.

As the oldest brother myself I can understand Hachiken's older brother in his desire to not be anywhere near his father right now. Sometimes only bad things happen when you stay so you don't.

Poor Hachiken though, the bacon lie. Wow. I was waiting for his father to finish him off with a zero gatotsu.

So, I really can't place his father's face. Is it a younger King Bradley or a thinner looking Scar? Probably a combo of both.

Also, dude needs to be taken down several pegs. Would be nice if Chestnut kicks him for making Hachiken feel bad.

How dare Arakawa stop at such a cliffhanger! shamefulcry0js.gif

Kinda expected that Yugo would have an introspective walk back to the school, but I guess she skipped that part.

Chapter comments --Click here to view--

Good job, Aki. happy.gif

She really got Hachiken out of his melancholic mood, and there were a couple of lovely moments with them. smile.gif

Erotic potatoes..? That's just very, very strange...

Poor Nakajima, he's going to have to find a new hideaway for his cheese. XD

The next issue will have colour pages! Looking forward to those.

I finally discovered my reason for sticking with this manga, even through the lack of 'shonen action.' I can really empathize with Hachiken, he and I are pretty similar in regards to our characteristics. Even regards to what we think our friends think of us, always accentuating the negative. It's really glad to see him surrounded by friends and to see his hard work pay off. It makes me be a bit optimistic about myself too.

....Now, if I'm only as good looking, magnetic, and smart as Hachiken, then I'd be so cool. whatthekitten.gif

In other words, Arakawa's frigging awesome.

....Also, I keep hearing Vic Mignogna's Edward voice every time Hachiken speaks.
