It can't get worse and then it gets worse! Reuters reports that the French Embassy in Tokyo is saying weak radioactive contamination will reach Tokyo in 10 hrs.

This earthquake/tsunami/nuclear power plant meltdown to the Japanese people is the worst thing that has happened to them since WWII. Numbers of dead isn't the focus. It's the shock of the deaths no matter how few. For example, 31 people were killed in Brandenburg, KY on April 3, 1974 (as the result of an F5 tornado that was part of the infamous Super Outbreak ) in a town of then less than 3,000 but people all over Kentucky were stunned and mourned those that died. I didn't know any of those people and I was just 7 1/2 years old when that tornado happened, an F4 tornado killed 3 people in my hometown of Louisville (a metro area even then of over 700,000 people, nowadays over 1 million) but memories of the shock and devastation in my town and in Brandenburg is still vivid in my mind almost 40 years later.
We suffered far few deaths due actually having a city wide warning system and the very low tech radar of the time, but mainly because one of our AM radio traffic reporters of that time was actually in the air in his helicopter, warning people of where the tornado was headed.
The good thing that came out of that tragic weather desister was a major technological push and upping in federal funding for better radar and alert systems throughout the country. In 1974 my lucky town had around 30 seconds warning of an tornado touchdown, nowadays even most rural locations can have as much as 30 minutes. 30 seconds is just about long enough to grab a radio and flee to a basement, nothing else. Nowadays I have time to get dressed- if I'm in my nightgown, get my important documents and smaller precious things down to the basement, fill up a water container, grab my radio, cell phone and laptop and head to the basement.
Uhhh....yeah, that's pretty much what I said, didn't I??

Anyways.... kitten..... Tokyo is going to be contaminated?? welp, guess this means no manga for a few months, I guess.
The family that couldn't be.

He was also talking about the panic buying in Tokyo and said he thought it was silly, because everything is okay in Tokyo, but he figures people are getting anxious because of the news reports about Fukushima. He went out earlier today to a local store to buy some candy for the family (store was sold out of it) and while he was in the store he heard the store owner announce they were out of toilet paper.

At this point Godzilla could come out of the water and burn Tokyo to the ground, and everyone would see it coming. At this point not even the most ludicrous of disasters are going to phase me with this week-long cluster-kitten of earthquakes, tsunamis and meltdowns (as an observer from the other side of the world, of course, I'm sure my mentality would be different if I was living there).
For the love of God, enough already. I'm almost wishing Pat Robertson would say something stupid again, if only for a brief distraction...

Plus there's that whole deal about entire towns are still missing because of a 9.0 earthquake, and a 30 ft Tsunami.
@Kodachi claws, there's always the Politics Thread for other sources of disaster. Psst. Saudi Arabia sent troops into Bahrain and Libya is mired in Civil war.
@dl316bh Yup.

My heart is with them. Screw the Manga, I don't care if it takes a year for another one to come out, I just want them to get back on their feet and pray they'll all be okay.
It's things like this that make me so grateful to be alive and well... I just want this disaster to stop...

There isn't anything to say. Things really need to start settling down over there. It's getting plain ridiculous.

I know what you mean. I would totally host someone or a family at my house if I knew someone that could (and wanted to) get out of Japan for a while until things got a little more settled.

100000% Agree with these statements! We can wait for at least a year for a new manga because as of now, I want and pray for the Japanese to be safe from any other upcoming dangers. They never deserve this kind of disaster.
