The Official E3 2011 Thread

It wasn't a sterling E3, but I did like the look of the new Tomb Raider. The 3DS games also look fairly solid, and I will inevitably be getting the new Mario Kart and Super Mario game. The new Luigi's Mansion was a cool surprise, and I will definitely be keeping an eye on it.
OK then, the Wii U...
The name is bloody awful.
Now that I've got that out of the way, I must say that Nintendo could have done a far better job of the E3 presentation. It was initially confusing, because it did at first appear to just be an add-on for the original Wii. The controller itself does have a lot of potential, but the whole presentation felt rushed. Perhaps Nintendo would have done a better job if they had delayed the unveiling until they actually had some native Wii U games to show off (and no, I don't mean the basic minigames they had).
Because of the rushed presentation and sheer lack of information, I'm firmly on the fence. Right now, my plan is to simply wait until the Wii U comes out, and see how its first year goes. If it doesn't have a proper online structure (like Xbox LIVE and PSN) or a solid line-up of games that really make use of the Wii U's features, then I won't buy it.
Of course, the new Xbox will probably be out by 2013 and possibly have its own tablet controller.

Microsoft is supposedly debuting their console at E3 2012. Along with Timesplitters 4. I'm hoping its a joke, because the 360 hasn't even touched its 10 year cycle.

Sad, just sad.
As for the next gen Xbox, i'm just having a hard time believing it'll be unveiled at next years E3 due to their Xbox Live upgrades shown at this years E3. I guess they could show a small glimpse of what Xbox Live 2 might look like though.

Nah, I'd take that with a bucket-load of salt. As Dreamer mentioned, Microsoft are still pushing upgrades for the Xbox 360, plus it would be very odd timing for a rumour to pop up AFTER this year's E3 has only just been done and dusted. Nobody decides what they'll show at the next E3 almost a year in advance. Months, sure. But a year?
A little bit of WiiU info has popped up; its graphics card is more advanced than those found in the Xbox 360 and PS3. Wii U GPU - Kotaku
It's nice to hear that Nintendo intend to outpower the 360 and PS3, but they still need to prove that they can drag themselves kicking and screaming to the cutting edge of console gaming. We still know nothing about the online structure, and we still need to hear more about the games and how they will leverage the tablet controller.
Still, even if Nintendo do still come up with the goods, I have to admit I will most likely wait and see how it does. After all, I'm still feeling a bit burnt from buying the Wii. It's been great at parties, but it just doesn't compare to the 360/PS3 when it comes to relaxing with a game at the weekend. The last time I fired it up was probably 2/3 months ago. The WiiU will have to do better than that if it wants me to part with my cash, especially as I'm planning on buying just ONE console from the next generation.

Damn I was looking forward to enjoy playing Blu-Ray on the Wii U's inovative transfer ability with it's controller. I know they'll still likely have Netflix but this still sucks though for people who don't have a high speed connection.

Won't ever happen. Because Microsoft and Nintendo are not on the Blu Ray Association. And the fact that they want to differentiate from Sony stops them from using Blu-Ray altogether.

You know if i was Miyamoto, i would be embarrassed to even make such a statement. Surely he knows how important online gaming has become. I can't tell you how awesome it would be to have DK, Mario, and others to be inovative with a great online experience and not to mention DLC incorporated into Zelda to keep the great story and adventure going. Miyamoto just refuses to change from his old ways, hopefully Nintendo will eventually have some younger generation gamers running the company and franchise.

Yeah every since they first announced the game I've been following the progress of TOR. I've been loving the features they've had for the classes. That's so going to be a first day purchase and the following week off from work. ^^

I guess Miyamoto is still stuck in the past where there was no such thing as the internet and the only thing that rule gaming experience is the quality of the games. Miyamoto just wants the old school gaming experience for the old school game fans but here's a reality check Miyamoto we no longer live in the 80's. This is the 21st century and right now the thing that brings the quality in gaming and provides the true gaming experience is "online play" the faster the network the better that is how Sony and Microsoft have been ruling the gaming generation for a while and sadly those old school game fans you want to please there are so little of them (most of those fans are probably little kids).
