I think all of her spirits technically have the ability to open their own gates, they're just not strong enough.  Loke is the strongest (he is the leader, after all) and I'd assume that all of her spirits, given enough training, could do it too.  

 

Horolgium the Clock does it as well, when he senses that Lucy is in critical danger and might die.  (He's the one that saved her from turning into Lacrima during the Edolas arc.)  

 

Actually, I think they all summoned themselves when she managed to summon the Celestial King to plead Loke's case. 

 

That's actually an idea I've been meaning to explore in a fanfic.  I want to see all of the summons get powered up.  We know they can change their forms depending on the summoner's will (Virgo went from a fat lady to a young girl), but I'd also like to see them evolve.  Like Pokémon.     And everyone has a final form that is like, super epic.  Like Aries turns into a super badass fireball of doom.

 

As for the manga turning away from Loke/Lucy, it comes down to it being an unequal relationship.  It's master/servant , mortal/immortal, ancient/teenaged.... Loke loves Lucy, and she loves him but she also loves all her avatars. Loke may very well be the closest out of all of them, and her favorite, but in the end, their love would be destined for tragedy.  I believe Lucy figured this out even after she dismissed him due to his playboyness.  Maybe allowed herself a teeny crush but forced herself to get over it fast.

 

Loke/Aries has none of those problems.  They're both immortal, both of the Celestial realm, both the same age, and both servants to the same master. 

I dont think lucy Loved Loke ever.. she did blush now and again when Loke tried it on with her and shows she cares for him deeply but not love. Loke loves(d) Lucy but it never went anywhere.

 

Lucy doesnt have Pieces or Libra spirits yet.

True, they weren't introduced canonically at that point, so it was only the summons that she had a contract with that appeared when she summoned the celestial king.

 

I'd argue that Lucy does love Loke, but it's not a romantic love.  It's the same love she feels for the members of Fairy Tail, only on a more personal level.  That's why she is the strongest Celestial Spirit mage - she actually deeply cares for the avatars themselves and doesn't see them as tools to be used.  

 

It's the same way I feel about my friends in real life.  There's nothing romantic or sexual about it, but I love some of them like sisters and brothers.  I cry when they cry, I'm happy when they are happy.  I want to help them and protect them, even if it's just stuff like helping them move or protecting them from a panhandler downtown.

M'eh, I'm coming to a point where i'm expecting the situation to turn around and end up with the happiest possible solution with the least amount of deaths...It's sad really, Fairy Tail has some great build up but they always seem to end being anti-climatic, I'd say after Laxus's failed Coup d'etat it became old.

 

Atleast the humour and relationship building is fun....though my favourite pairing is Naruto/Erza...If there could be a mergance two the mangas (impossible because they are published in rival magazines) I'd want those two paired together.

I did like the chapter but I would be lying if I say I'm glad no one dies or no hard reckoning happened. It was well job well done, but I was still hoping for dark moment. I don't know, I had all war games twist in mind, where many just get killed off. I guess I leave games to bring the darkness. Don't get the wrong idea, not everything needs to have a dark moment, but I believe we are due for one. It works well for One Piece, so I would like FT to get one.

 

I do like the fact the dragon slayers felt rather uneasy that they are still weak to kill one, so that's not good on them. One thing I do like is everything over feeling. While it still needed that dark moment to make this like "Thank goodness," I think it holds up nicely, especially with Future Lucy going back to her friends. The last page, well yeah, pairing moment. Can we get something similar with NS? Very possible. Overall, it was a good arc, but I wish some parts took their time to create a huge impact, especially with the final battle in the arc. Oh well, then again, we do have that woman sacrificing but I will wait until it all ends. If she lives, well yeah.

Holy crap. That scene with Future Lucy and her friends was just...too much. Seeing Natsu and Happy and all her dead friends. After all this time, I think Hiro Mashima's the only manga author that can get me this wound up. Kishi and Kubo don't even come close. 

 

Past that, this arc did end kinda abruptly. I didn't really care for that. But I suppose everyone's already had their fights, so I have no reason to complain. Plus, I think the fact that Sting and Rogue made mention of it means there was a reason for it being so abrupt. I wish the time travel thing was a little less convoluted though. Is Ultear gonna come back now that the gate's been destroyed, or are the dragons and Future Rogue the only thing that's been reset? Hmm. Confusing.

 

Six chapters over the next two weeks. Ho dang. Hiro's really kicking the next arc into high gear. Can't wait to see what happens next.

I wasn't expecting for the fight to end the way it did but since this is Hiro we're talking about it's not unexpected. It was kind of bittersweet to see that even thought Future Lucy was reunited with her future friends that at the same time it's pretty clear that they're all dead, which I don't understand why since destroying the gates was supposed to cancel out the bad futures, or was it only Future Rogue's future?

 

Does that mean that in the first future in which Earthland is decimated by the 10,000 dragons still exist as an alternate timeline? That's kind of depressing considering that Levi is still alive in that terrible future.

 

I'm still waiting to see if Ultear is indeed dead or if Hiro will chicken out again. Also, I wonder if the six chapters in the course of the next weeks (I'm still amazed Hiro can pull that off so easily) will all be sort of transitional towards the next arc (just like it was with training at the beach for the tournament) or if the new plot will start immediately.

 

I hope the new arc is related to the secret of Fairy Tail, whatever is hidden in the basement of their original building. I guess with the earning for winning the tournament they can now afford to relocate there once again, unless the King says that they need the money to pay for the reconstruction fees of the damaged city.

I got a lot of feels about the whole Ultear thing. Even if she didn't die, she is going to be all alone. It's really sad but she honestly looks so happy for the first time. Seeing Gray cry is heartbreaking, too.
