I've also heard the pragmatic argument that if Naruto didn't fall for Hinata, then the whole purpose of her character in the Narutoverse would be defeated.

Of course, I think that rather than her sole purpose in being introduced into the story to be N's love interest, it is actually to be, well, yet another person whose life changes through his positive influence. And her change will probably be that much more significant as it will undoubtedly have connections to Naruto's relationship with Sakura.

All in all, I think the claim that Hinata's purpose in the manga is to be Naruto's future mate (regardless of the argument used) makes an already poorly-developed character (not that I'm complaining) even more one-dimensional.

...uh, though it really doesn't need to be said here, does it? hehe

The problem with Hinata's existence is exactly this. All she's basically there for is to be the side character that likes the main character; always watching from the sidelines. Her character I'd say is a TINY BIT more than one-dimensional, though. She has had a backstory explained and such, but regardless of that, her importance to the story is below, well... Kankurou's. The only character she has more development than is probably TenTen, who seems to just be there to fill in the space for the last remaining member of Team Gai.

The most simplest NaruSaku argument there is;

Naruto is the protagonist. A protagonist always has goals to work to -one is to be acknowledged by everyone (become Hokage) and the other is to win over Sakura.
For him to fail in the long run, is to cheapen his character.
By this logic, Hinata is runner's up (or the booby prize ) and the hero never gets second place.

There, throw that into a sig when you browse NarutoFan and you'll get neg-repped 6-feet under by insecure people who can't match the logic.

Sadly, most NaruHina fans are so insecure about their pairing (even though it's a fake pairing in a fake world), that they down NaruSaku and brush off their relationship as sibling-like. When Sakura hugged Naruto, people said it was a "good friend hug", with no evidence to back it up. Someone on DeviantART even drew a "What If" picture, with Hinata hugging Naruto. Biggest problem with that? It's PROVING they're DESPERATE for NaruHina to happen. The point is, no matter what happens with Naruto and Sakura, they say it's sibling-like, but if the SAME EXACT scenario occurred between Hinata and Naruto, it'd be "romantic". Another big problem is that they NEED to face facts-- Naruto and Sakura are NOT siblings, and thus, the chances of them really being together increase drastically.

After all that has happened those NaruHina fools still can't accept the truth, I mean c'mon pairing a secondary charater with a main one WTF? are they on crack and then the are the SasuSakus that can't understand that their pairing is dead since Sasuke's leaving the village. Man all this is like shikamaru would say "Troublesome". I just hope people can see that NaruSaku isn't as bad as people paint it and THAT we aren't on part 1 anymore Sakura isn't the same person she was before and neither is Naruto, They aren't 12 years old anymore.(Curiously that the normal age of NaruHina fans, so were basically arguing against little kids... tch troublesome indeed.)

it's not a subtle pairing. kishimoto himself said that he originally wanted to make sasuke like naruto to complete the love triangle, but his editors said it wouldn't work because shounen jump wouldn't take it easily. actually i believe that in one shounen anime/manga there are two boys who confess their love to each other, i'll tell you the name when i remember it. I admit that naruto "liked" sakura and i slightly accept that pairing, but in my opinion he never realistically loved her more than a play crush. he has never shown serious romantic affection for her and it's unlikely that he will in my opinion. As for sakura, i think she's acting a bit affectionate toward him as if he's slowly replacing sasuke. I think kishimoto has at least some hope for sasuke and naruto but if not, so be it. no one really knows for sure what he wants romantically for the comic. For all we know, shounen jump may become much more tolerant and accept it.

but honestly it's gotten too far to be little homosexual "hints" They're not really hints anymore, get over it and open your eyes. no straight guy is that obsessed with another guy.

I'm sorry, Ryrinea, but I haven't been able to read past this. The first line is an insult, and the second is nothing but a pitiful lie. I don't think I can go through of several entire paragraphs written by someone is incapable of arguing without insulting people with other opinions, comes up with false facts and convinces himself/herself they are real and true.

Clearly it's impossible taking seriously this person, and you're wasting your time (and your -possibly in short supply- patience) arguing with him/her.

Kishimoto has never said that. Naruto/Sasuke is NOT a pairing, subtle or unsubtle. Naruto IS a SHONEN manga. The main character has stated and shown he's heterosexual, he doesn't like men (Do you remember when Konohamaru Henged himself in Sasuke and Sai naked and hugging? Naruto shouted: "Don't show me something so sickening!"), and has called SAsuke his brother and friend. The main character will NOT ge together with other man. PERIOD. *

You can like yaoi at your heart's content, but don't claim NaruSasu is canon. It is NOT and it will NEVER be. You're deluding yourself if you think otherwise. You're deluding yourself if you think Kishimoto wanted yaoi but his editors forbidden it. You're deluding yourself if you think Kishimoto has told in an interview there'll be a NaruSasu end.

Enjoy your CRACK pairing for what it is -right like I can enjoy SakuIno in spite of I know those two girls are fully heterosexual-, and stopping deceiving and deluding yourself. Or at least do it QUIETLY.

*Edit: Oh, and in case of that person is going to tell I haven't proved Sasuke isn't in love with Naruto, that wasn't my intent. First I was refuting his ridiculous claim of Kishimoto wanted Sasuke liked Naruto, and after I started listing the FACTS prove Naruto isn't homosexual, hence he isn't prone to fancy men.

And personally I think Sasuke isn't interested in anyone -man or woman- but in gaining power in order to achieve his revenge. I don't imagine him romantically attached to someone and I thought he'd end up alone (and I find that fate proper, not because I hate him -which I don't- but because I think it suits to his character), but now I'm suspecting there's one chance of he and Karin get together. I don't really support SasuKarin, actually I don't give a damn about it, but that's irrelevant. I don't think one pairing will become canon because I like, but because I think that's where the story is heading after reading the manga.

Seriously? I'm sorry, but that person must be desperate. And or in need of serious switch of the manga they read, in my opinion. NOT once, have I seen Sasuke show any emotion other than anger, depression, and maybe a little gratitude (That is questionable), and Naruto has proven over and over again he's not interested in men like that, Konohamaru's Double Knockout Guys Techinque shows this.

Every manga series where a character tries to save a family member from their inner darkness is now considered gay. So Kenshin was homosexual for trying to prevent Enishi from tarnishing his sister's memory. Itachi is gay for trying to save Sasuke and loving/protecting him like an older brother should.

Reasons why, because they can't get over the issue of the fact that this is a Shonen manga. Not shonen-ai, not yaoi. This person is so desperate for a genre change in Japanese manga transition that is very crazy on what this person is talking about.
