I don't think the pairings are that big of a deal in FT. The pairings are obvious in my eyes, no serious love triangle like in for example Naruto or Inuyasha.

Na/Lu and Ga/Le are my two favorite ships, and also seem to be basically canon at this point. I used to think Loke/Lucy seemed somewhat probable, mostly after the Loke and Fighting Festival arcs, but it really hasn't advanced much since then. I guess the bigger problem I see with the ship is how Lucy is supposed to love of all of her spirits to realize her magical potential. Having a different kind of love for just one of them would seem unfair to rest of the spirits she has a contract with, at least it seems that way to me.

 

I really don't care for Gruvia. Juvia gets her awesome moments from time to time, but she's still primarily defined by her love interest. It's really the same reason Naru/Hina doesn't interest me.

 

Never really thought about Natsu/Wendy. I think the age difference seems too significant for me to really like it. I think I could get into Natsu/Edo-Wendy though. XD

 

Other than that, Elf/Ever is canon basically. I have a soft spot for Mira/Laxus, thought I don't know how likely that is. Graytear and Grayza are awesome. A lot of fans like Jerza, but I'm still undecided on that. I liked Sieg in Rave Master, but I've never cared about Jellal as much I guess.

 

That being said, if Mashima decides to go an RM route with Jellal, that might pose an even bigger problem for that pairing.

As Boom said, Gruvia seems an awful lot like NaruHina so it's not really my cup of tea. I don't really like Jerza either. Jellal's 'redemption' was kind of forced in my opinion and the conflict with him now doesn't interest me. "Damn you Jellal! You killed so-and-so! I will get revenge!" And then Erza defends him because she believes that he was controlled. Sometimes I like angst, but in this case it's not for me.

 

Even though this may sound a bit cruel, I kind of like Erza by herself. She's such an awesome fighter and I love her style. (If she did happen to be in a relationship, I wouldn't mind Grayza.)

I really want Mira/Laxus to happen especially after that haircut chapter title page.

NaLu is awesome OVA 4 was such a win for the pairing except for Natsu following what Naruto does....

 

Lucy: Wow there's two Natsu's

This pairing (Lucy's feelings at least) are very clear but Lucy denies it

 

I like gruvia, more for the comedy of Juvia. I also like grayza but i think Jellal is the only one in her mind ATM.

My thoughts!

 

Confirmed Canon: Ever/Elf.  That's it.  They're the only ones that have gone out on a date of sorts, and have had other characters commenting on the fact that they're going out. 

 

Probably Canon: Gajeel/Levy.  Confirmed that Levy likes Gajeel, and they've been seen on covers together, but their development has stalled out for the moment.  Hope it picks up soon. 

 

Same goes for Natsu/Lucy.  Development is all stalled out on this.  They get more fanservice than actual relationship moments, and it's kind of sad. 

 

Angsty Canon: Jella/Erza.  She likes him, he likes her, but he thinks he doesn't deserve her, and she is playing along with that for now.

 

Love Triangle:  The Lyon/Gray/Juvia thing is mostly there for comedy, but Gray dying in one possible future may spur him into actually doing something.  (That, and Erza gently ribbing him about it.)  The fandom also does a Natsu/Loke/Lucy love triangle, or a Natsu/Gray/Lucy, or Natsu/Gray/Loke/Lucy, and all variations thereof. In that respect, Gray is probably the most fluid of the not-officially-paired. 

 

Not Canon: Mirajane/Laxus, Romeo/Wendy, Lisanna/Bixlow. Nope, there is no there there.  Cana/Bacchus also, kind of sort of.  Hasn't stopped fandom from taking the ball and running with it.

 

Unlikely Pairings:  I put Erza/Gray and Erza/Natsu in this category since she tends to view them in a big sister/ younger brother sense.  Also any and all variations of Sting/Rogue/Gajeel/insert other male character here with Lucy, because her love interests are pretty firmly confined to the Natsu/Gray/Loke quandrangle. 

 

Dead Pairings: Mirajane/Fried because Fried is gay and likes Laxus. Hell, Fried/Laxus has more support in canon than Mirajane/Laxus  Laxus doesn't seem to really like anyone in a romantic sense, though.

 

Ultear/Anyone - since she's literally dead, at least for the moment.

Yeah, i got heard that people are making a love triangle for Lucy but there is no ground whatso ever for a love triangle for Lucy as she only shows love towards Natsu. Isn't much of a triangle because Natsu hasn't shown interest in love at all, As for Loke yes he tries it on with Lucy but i dont think it's serious it's just being a playboy. Besides i think he likes Aries/dating her. As for Gray > Lucy, nothing has really happened between them that could pose any threat to NaLu.

 

Lucy has clearly shown she likes Natsu but just gets all defensive and shy when people prod her about it. NaLu needs some more serious moments but i can comfortably say it's 90% canon already.

So I agree, NaLu is 90% canon.  I just wish it was more than boob jokes and Happy going "He liiiiiikes you~" and they had a serious heart to heart about it.  That's the final 10% that's missing.

 

(I suppose I should go add another 500 words to my current NaLu lemon...)

Bolded: Can't agree that Gray/Lucy ever existed, just trolling by Hiro and Neither Lucy or Gray feel anything for the other ever. Loke/Lucy is slighty different, yeah they had some moments but i think it was always kept at a caring friendship/caring for her spirits level. Loke ofc was a playboy and tried it on but she never showed anything for him.

 

 

Loke x aries Aries is adorable

 

NaLu only needs a serious moment to become canon, just something to show they love each other, like an out in the open moment. Not a confession perse but just something that makes them both realize they love each other without having to say it.

I was actually really into Loke/Lucy. I mean, even if he ended up being scratched off, he was on her perfect boyfriend list. Then the whole thing with her getting him back into the Celestial Spirit World? It brought tears to my eyes T.T

 

The way she was really bugged by his awkward avoid Lucy at all times thing in addition to the perfect boyfriends list made me feel like it was a slight possibility. Sure, she might just be angry because everyone in the guild is suppose to be like family but this one guy keeps acting weird around her, but I like shipping goggles so eh.  

 

The Bickslow fight seemed shippy too. 

 

I've only watched the anime, so if some of these are not in the actual canon forgive me. 

 

EDIT: is Loke's ability to travel between worlds on his own ever explained ? Is he still the only one of her spirits who can do this ?

 

I like most of the potential ships in this series. Some more than others, but none of them turn me off (:

I think all of her spirits technically have the ability to open their own gates, they're just not strong enough.  Loke is the strongest (he is the leader, after all) and I'd assume that all of her spirits, given enough training, could do it too.  

 

Horolgium the Clock does it as well, when he senses that Lucy is in critical danger and might die.  (He's the one that saved her from turning into Lacrima during the Edolas arc.)  

 

Actually, I think they all summoned themselves when she managed to summon the Celestial King to plead Loke's case. 

 

That's actually an idea I've been meaning to explore in a fanfic.  I want to see all of the summons get powered up.  We know they can change their forms depending on the summoner's will (Virgo went from a fat lady to a young girl), but I'd also like to see them evolve.  Like Pokémon.     And everyone has a final form that is like, super epic.  Like Aries turns into a super badass fireball of doom.

 

As for the manga turning away from Loke/Lucy, it comes down to it being an unequal relationship.  It's master/servant , mortal/immortal, ancient/teenaged.... Loke loves Lucy, and she loves him but she also loves all her avatars. Loke may very well be the closest out of all of them, and her favorite, but in the end, their love would be destined for tragedy.  I believe Lucy figured this out even after she dismissed him due to his playboyness.  Maybe allowed herself a teeny crush but forced herself to get over it fast.

 

Loke/Aries has none of those problems.  They're both immortal, both of the Celestial realm, both the same age, and both servants to the same master.
