Sakura fangirling was disgusting but please feel free to sue me if I find Naruto's characterization in the movie the most disgusting thing out of them all.
1. Naruto considers girls as prizes to be won in a competition. He was interested in Sakura because of his rivalry with Sasuke. Him asking her on dates and trying to be with her was for the sole purpose of competing. He tried to get her even though he never loved her. And he had never been interested in Hinata. But boom! Toneri appears and NOW he's interested. Because competition.
2. Naruto is not a hero. When Hinata is kidnapped he's being all emo because she rejected him and it takes Shikamaru to put sense back to him. Like wtf? The Naruto we know doesn't hesitate from saving a girl in danger regardless of her loving him or not. Him hesitating to save Hinata in danger because he's scared of her feelings just shows how crappy he is. He'll only save his friend in danger when he can gain something in return?
So please sue me if I think Naruto is worse because he has his infatuation towards Sasuke even moreso than Sakura AND the above.

If I was unclear I apologize. I have no problem criticizing Naruro. Though I absolutely reject the notion that his love for Sakura was due to a rivalry.

Surely there's no one here who genuinely believes what this movie is spouting about Naruto's love for Sakura being a byproduct of his rivalry with Sasuke. I understand that many people believe it's nonsense to suggest, but do you actually believe the atrraction was all just a farce because this movie is deemed "canon"?

I can only speak for myself, but no, I don't believe for a second that Naruto's love for Sakura was merely becuase of his rivalry with Sasuke. 

 

But that still won't stop me from using the new "canon" against anyone who defends this travesty of an ending.

And I absolutely reject the notion that Sakura did not get over Sasuke when Kakashi said she did. If you're not going to believe what the SP tells you about Naruto, then you shouldn't believe what they tell you about Sakura. Yeah, I thought the same thing. What's the point in keeping it secret if they've already spoiled everything about it being a NH romance? It makes no sense at all.

 

Unless the whole thing is a marketing ploy to confuse Naruto fans into not caring. In that case, job well done!

That's why so many people here believe that it has to be an illusion or a dream, not really because it's our last hope of our pairing being canon, it's because of how ridiculous things are and how completely out of character these characters are that we just can't believe this is real. The lore is just toast, I mean they are fighting on the moon. Every single bit of information that we've learned thus far from the manga is thrown in the garbage can and its telling us it never even existed. Again I say this in my entire life I have never read or seen a story that does this.

 

I've seen stories pushing the reset button. But I've never seen a story that ends in a way that completely nullifies everything thus far.

I just can't see that this won't hurt both the studio and Kishimoto in the long run. If this movie tells people that events that occurred within the manga are superfluous, then why should new readers check out the manga in the first place? The movie is essentially saying that the story that the movie is based off of doesn't matter, but then you need to have that story in order to 'get' the movie if you are unfamiliar with the Naruto story to begin with. It's a mess.
