Actually for Aizen as he is now Bankai would be a step backwards as far as hes concerned. His words paint a picture of having moved wlel past such trivialites as Bankai and Shikai etc etc.

@catsi: Maybe but I don't think so, I think his words more or so imply that his "limits" have far surpassed that of shinigami and hollow. But as far as it looks, he hasn't gained anything new has he? He's used Kidou and cero's, just much stronger. I just wouldn't be surprised if he's just being egotistical thinking he could have won without using his shikai/bankai.

Quite probably, but thats also what i meant. In his arrogance hed think Bankai would be beneath him as its a shinigami thing. For he who has surpassed Shinigami and Hollow using such things would be trivial.

Even the ceros are more like token gestures like a giants finger flick from his perspective. Look what my amazing powers can do, a simple cero is elevated to such destructive heights it can obliterate cities MUWAHAHAH!!

Episodes 288 and 289 of Bleach are both available at various sites.

288 is primarily the battle between Yammi and Kenpachi, while Unohana travels with ichigo to the world of the living.

289 is a combination of the battle between Yammi and Byakuya and Kenpachi continued, and adds in the battle between Tosen, Komomura and Hisagi.

Omakes at the end include poor lost Hanataro, and Mayuri offers bodily reconstruction at inexpensive prices.

Mayuri's Omake was hilarious. Poor Hiyori, first getting bifurcated, and then outed as a transexual. How terrible. XD

The animation in 289 was rather good. It looked like a movie at several points. It doesn't hurt that Hisagi and Komamura are two of my favorite side characters. I love their Zanpakutou.

After firing Mugetsu Ichigo's power gradually fades. His transformation also unravels.
Aizen is collapsed after the Mugetsu. He's not dead due to his regenerative abilities, but his transformation is also unraveling.
Ichigo lands down at Aizen's location. He kneels as his shinigami powers vanish.
Aizen stands completely still before him. "This is your defeat," Aizen says as he shows his sword.
Aizen's sword vanishes. Aizen says the hougyoku has judged that his sword is unncessary. Because Ichigo has lost his power the difference in their powers is even greater.
But just as he says that light rays pierce Aizen's chest. "What is this?" he asks. "I've finally invoked it," answers a voice. It's Urahara.
He's talking about the kido he tried before Aizen completed his transformation. Because Aizen can't be killed when fused with the hougyoku he's decided to develop a new technique to seal him.
Aizen says to Urahara that it's too bad. "Since I've evolved further that level of kido won't be able to seal me!"
However, just as he says this Aizen's transformation unravels even further, and even his face is like that of his shinigami form. Aizen is shocked as he senses his power fading.
"That's the hougyoku's intent. As your power has weakened it doesn't recognize you as its master," says Urahara.
"That doesn't make any sense!" screams Aizen at Urahara as he starts getting sealed. "Why would someone as intelligent as yourself follow someone like that!"
"Because I observed the Spirit King. If the Spirit King didn't exist Soul Society would break apart. The Spirit King is the lynchpin, and if he is lost it would easily crumble. That's how the world is," replies Urahara.
"That's a loser's theory! A winner should never wonder what the world is like but rather how it should be. I am...!" As Aizen is cutoff Ichigo averts his eyes.
The next page is Aizen being sealed.

Without Mugetsu I doubt it would have been possible to have sealed Aizen...

I really hope Aizen is gone for real this time. And how did the final Getsuga Tenshou weaken Aizen? He was in a black void and then he started crumbling away (Kubo's artwork confuses me) Hopefully Bleach will go in a different direction now; it's long overdue.

Oh well it's finally over, i'm hoping (Though it's unlikely to happen) that Bleach is going to end here, but more likely we'll have another arc where Ichigo will regain his power and will move towards the Spirit King and we'll start seeing some of these Vasto Lords we heard so much about, (I think only the top three Esparda were Vasto Lords before joining Aizen, so they should be some quite powerful enemies out there.

Lol, Aizen thought his zan disappearing meant he was going to be like mugetsu Ichigo. Still though the end sucked except for what Aizen was about to say to Ichigo.

I wonder if Ichigo is actually related to the spirit king or some other great importance Aizen foresaw in Ichigo but still despised him.

So Ichigo loses his Shinigami powers for the second time. If there is another arc, it will likely be him having to do something unprecedented to get them back. I'm guessing Isshin did something similar ~20 years ago, hence why he was living in the human world. The next arc will likely explore Isshin's past, hopefully, and then get into what will likely be the final arc of the series. That is, if WSJ doesn't try to force Kubo to keep doing more, since they may be against losing one of the 'trinity'. At the current rate, I can see Bleach and Naruto ending at around the same time, which is a scary proposition for them.
