My heart skipped a beat when I saw this CD cover. Then I actually saw how depressed both characters looked (Naruto especially) and became joyful.
After all I totally expected more NH advertising since they apparently want to do romantic drama in this movie and NH needs a lot of marketing effort to make it seem (!) on par with NS (with all it's development and forshadowing). I've also also been sure for several weeks now that Hinata would get her closure finally. Just like that I expected to see more NH themed advertising and was actually overjoyed to see how NOT-misleading it was - if you ask me, this scene perfectly depicts the place NH was, is and will be till the end. The place, where Hinata's love is one-sided and melancholic.
Naruto's face and posture reminds me of my own when I had to reject one person several years ago. It was one of the most uncomfortable experiences of my life. I think I've never before and after wanted to cease to exist like I did at that moment. I wanted to disappear, hide inside myself, escape from this situation in any way possible. But I knew I had to answer, so I just led the person to a park just like Naruto seems to be doing with Hinata here. I was a ball of nerves then, my back and shoulders were tense and I was afraid to show any emotion on my face, so it was like a dead mask.
This is what I see in Naruto. His face expression is so stiff and laid-back. He seems very defensive and tense. He is also hiding his hands in his pockets which shows that he runs from possible contact. That is just body language.
(The person whom I've rejected is actually my fiance now, but I hope this doesn't ruin my point
)
I've just finished rereading Part 2 of the manga today and I was astonished by the ammount of unfounded faith NH fans have in their pairing. This was the first time I reread Naruto manga since I've started it about 10 years ago. And I did have a feeling up till now that NH had way more development. Since NS had less focus since the start of the war arc it felt kind of on the losing side for some time with all this speculation about Naruto not being in love with Sakura any more and etc. Even though I never believed it. But if you read Part 2 fast, somewhat close to the actual manga timeline, NS ever-presence is so apparent that it just kills all competition. I just felt that Kishimoto decided to give a couple of bones to NH for popularity sake, but constanty mocked it in the shadows. Hinata has always been portrayed ambiguously - her actions, thoughts and romantic moments were all strange, contradicting the wishes of Naruto or necessities of the battle moment. Each panel of Hinata "feeling" had a panel of Sakura "acting". Sakura was shown handling the buisness, making important decisions and ensuring the operation is running, even handling some Hokage's duties. Did confession of Hinata make any positive impact on the fight? No, it almost ruined the operation, killing Naruto's conscience, giving him in the hands of Pain and putting the villagers in danger of being destructed by Naruto himself. Even after her confession there were a couple of scenes where different characters confirmed that it was a bad idea to jump in to help Naruto. And this is still considered one of the highest points of NH, not of NS, which is ridiculous.
Yes, Sakura was not thinking only about Naruto, repeating his name and staring in the fog or the sky, but she was shown as a much bigger help for him, who wishes to protect the village. And when it mattered, she always got her moment to prove that the development is still there.
Adressing those people (@ Shadow1275), who said that Sakura's fake confession scene didn't contain any hints of Naruto's feelings, here is one BIG panel that confirms that Sakura is Naruto's dream of love itself.

This is the panel right after she said that she loves him and chooses him over Sasuke. This is his first genuine reaction to her words before he started thinking that something is wrong. This is the face of pure happiness. The face of a person, who witnesses that his dream is coming true, though not yet believes in his luck completely. This is the face of a loving man, who dreamt to hear those words one day. I have no doubt, judging from this panel, that he would have accepted her feelings immediately if he accepted them as the truth. This panel shows that he wanted to believe her, but he couldn't put his happiness above the truth and Sakura's feelings. And just see how painful it was for him to let go of that moment:

Couldn't have said it any better myself.
That unsubtle tease...
It's borderline lying.
Yeah, I'm only taking that thing with a grain of salt.
this is setting up to be the biggest troll ever. can't wait to laugh my ass off.
Right behind you bro!
I would love to see Hinata watch as Naruto and Sakura have romantic moments while they are on this mission and Hinata just looks so kittening depressed and soon has to develop a new love relationship with someone else or that "new love" is that of brother and sister with NH.
That would be epic.
Yeah, it would. If Kishi does decide to rub salt in the wounds even further, I could imagine him making Hinata look petty by trying to one-up Sakura. Then to take that pettiness one step further, Hinata would become some Kaguya-like figure that Naruto would have to Talk no Jutsu back to sanity.
What a hell of a tease. That would be just rubbing salt in the wounds of fans who were hopeful for a positive ending with NH. I like it. Although, there is a part of me that would like to see Hinata doing something of importance in combat, just to see whether or not she's made any progress in surpassing SRA Neji.
That would indeed be lulz worthy. By the way, what does "SRA" mean? I know you're talking about Neji, but what does the "SRA" that you put in front of his name mean?
You guys are so unsecure, you assume whatever BS from unreliable source that supports NH is true.
Can you really blame them/us? We're pretty much considered pariahs by a huge chunk of the fandom for shipping NaruSaku. It's no surprise that some people here are getting paranoid by the NH/SS stuff. It does not feel good to have your group come under fire.
They technically did back in Part 1. It was a sombre occurrence and they really weren't focused on each other, but it happened nonetheless.
Oh yeah, I remember now. Thanks!
Yeah which is something very uncharacteristic of them. Why can't they just report what's there and not just add speculations to it. It's clear they're pandering to NH fans with this post.
I looked at both articles and the NH-leaning one had an author listed at the top while the one saying that the song was about friendship didn't have an author listed at the top. So the NH-leaning article could be an editorial of some kind. I'm willing to bet that the ANN reporters have different views that would effect how they report on this movie coming out.
Yeah, but it isn't showing hints towards NH as well. Anything can happen during the time skip.
And Sakura DID NOT confess to Sasuke. Here:
I've heard that "Daisuki" can be used either in a romantic or platonic sense depending on the situation. But still, good point nonetheless.
I could never be content with "closest to canon", unfortunately. If I go and invest time in discussing and placing my bet on it, I need some kind of resolution. And the chances are very slim (I do hope we will see Nami in a queen's tiara ot something in the end).
But you are right. I could even argue that it is the most solid couple with how much straightforward confirmation we have got. It doesn't seem very explicit, but it stands out in comparison to any other relationship in One Piece. And you just constantly get more and more to add to your collection. I mean that you can't miss it, you don't have to worry about it developing and being there (unlike Naruto manga). It is just that you can't count on it being confirmed as canon, in loud voice. It is just like Oda - he gives us the best written, obvious couple, but never gives any confirmation. And he actually does it so smooth! The best teasing ever!
Kishi with his rollercoaster, abuse, one-sidedness, fake confessions and romantic fixations has to learn from Oda!
I hear that shippers get kitten for shipping in the One Piece fandom because apparently Oda doesn't want to make pairings canon or something, I don't know.
Well...
Even though I am a NaruHina fan and I am happy at seeing the two together, I don't believe this marketing advertising means anything good.
NS had Naruto interested about Sakura's beauty in tv and a lot of matching designs whereas NH had a twitter post about Hinata and a scarf then an audio track which says about friendship.
Saying that any of the two will be endgame just because of an unseen timeskip is exactly how the publishers want the public to feel about, confused and uncertain so that they go and watch the movie.
This movie is about the Moon falling, Hinata will probably be used as a parallel towards Kaguya because a quiet and polite noble woman whose ideals got twisted sounds like the story they are keeping hidden.
Hinata will become Kaguya and make the Moon fall, hence why her bond with Naruto is important, because he must save her from herself.
That's what I think will happen as well. The NH fandom might view it as a massive "kitten you" to them if this does happen.
It's nothing important.
You mentioned how Sakura looked like a stick compared to Hinata? I just wanted to point out that the still image of Sakura leaning backwards with her hand to her face is proportionally discrepant with the rest of her pictures there.
It's a minor detail, but I just wanted to point it out.
I always did have a feeling that there was some minor Sakura boobage there. I just thought someone else would point it out in time. Though if I wasn't lazy, I might've pointed this out a while back. Though I'm not going to steal your credit, it's yours.
