Naruto's supposed love for Hinata:- Jealousy, petulant behavior, whining because the other person did not love you back-- all showing an immature, childish attraction-- This is what they are trying to sell as romance. 
 
Naruto's love for Sakura:- Selflessness, support, understanding-- all showing actual love-- This is what they painted as a weak crush that originated because of a rivalry.

Well, the world brought us Twilight, so anything sells. Anything that's kitten can sell in today world. When one tried to be ambitious, it will get declined. I still remember the time moe took over anime world and got me hiatus on anime for two years. Now, well not sure. Anyway, the point is the days of genius work spreading is slowly fading. When it comes to a long term deal, it's hard to stay "big" for millions. When it's a one time moment, it spreads like wild fire because they just witnessed "new". It's a shame but what can you do.
