Those parents blame the games, instead of taking a look at how much they educate their kids.

I don't see kids dressing up as the Joker and going out and killing people after reading the comic books or watching the movie. Video games are just not accepted by some parents as "entertainment".

It's more like: "OH MY GAWD WHAT ARE YOU PLAYING. THIS GAME HAS GUNS OMGOMGOMG I SUE."

My point was that I guess that some parents simply feel that because YOU are controlling the character, in a sense, you are "choosing" to kill fictional characters/things.

Oh, yea, signed up for the PS3 beta, maybe I'll play against one of you guys. tongue.gif

I believe that's what the ESRB rating system is for. Parents are responsible for the games their kids play they should know which game is good for them and which ones are not recommended for them depending of their age. The ESRB rating systems helps checking the back of the box cartridge it has the rating and conditions the games has like for example.

MA 18+- it means that the game is for mature players 18 and up of age.

The rating also shows in this case:

-Blood and Gore.
-Violence.
-Mild Language.

Etc I still don't understand even with the ESRB rating system and parents are still buying the games that are not appropiate for the age of their children. It's not the rating system's fault it's the parents fault.

Lol! My parents don't care which games I play- or the rating xD I'm pretty sure they know I'm not gonna go on a murder spree. I find M+ games fun, some I even think don't really need M+ ratings... That's America for you —__—'

If kids and teenagers are aware of the differrence between fantasy and reality along with the logic that it's just a game and it's not real, then I guess it's all right for them to be playing those kinds of games. If the parents trust their kids then there's nothing wrong with playing games with lots of violence.

Well most kids are impressionable. Personally, I played plenty of mature games when I could even though my parents thought I shouldn't but just like movies, games are just fiction to me. They don't influence me at all. But I have seen some kids who learn cussing, insults, inappropriate behavior from TV movies music etc. But I agree with gravenimage, its up to the parents to know what their kids can and can't handle. The publishers do have some responsibility but they can really only do so much. Its up the parents to monitor what their kids are doing. But a lot of them don't want the responsibility that comes with having a kid, and instead blame different forms of media for everything.

Truth, the conservacionists think games are only for the bad, but they can also teach one thing or two from time to time, for example, I learned some historical facts while playing the call of duty franchise, I got interested in greek mitology after playing god of war, and to be honest, half of the english I know is by playing games. To put it simple, games have their pros and cons, but some people have a tendency to only see the cons.

There's always gonna be those people that go over the top. Yes kids can learn bad things from games/tv/etc, but they can't be complete control freaks on everything there kids do- I would blame the parents if the kids go around swearing something they heard off a game- for one, the kid should have known better and the parents should have read the game rating for swearing. I honestly have never picked up one swear word from a game I didn't already hear from a friend.

Well, everything have limits, a parent would need to be pretty stupid to give a copy of Kane & Lynch to his 5 years old son, they can't just radomly buy a game for their kids without analise it first.

I disagree with the logic that games are bad, some games can be educational and helpful. Take a look at Wii Fit the game is very educational because it helps people lose weight and best of all it's fun. Studies have shown that people have really lost weight playing Wii Fit so you exercise, lose weight and have fun.

Nintendo has always been a company that develops games more appropiate for kids and teenagers in the genre of being fun and educational. However I'm not saying all Nintendo games are for kids there's a limit. Example of this it's Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles those games are violent and gory to the core. Another example is Call of Duty World at War and Modern Warfare. Nintendo always expands the genre between violent games and educational fun games (I'm not supporting this because I own a Wii).

I can't say the same for Microsoft and Sony a lot of the 360 and PS3 games are pure violence, there's a small percentage of games from those consoles which are educational and fun.

But for some of us like myself I consider violence to be fun. smile.gif

Of course violence is fun, don't you think blowing zombies brains, killing zombie dogs, mutant monsters fun? Or how about killing German Nazi like you were at the actual WWII, getting some payback for our fallen American comrades? isn't it fun?
