Hmmm. I admit I'm a little worried ... but mostly I'm confused. Just trying to make sense of the meaning behind the cover.
We can't quite be sure what it means, but I feel very skeptical of this CD cover. Naruto and Hinata don't look happy and Hinata has been portrayed as unhappy twice now; not shy nor confident. I just find it bewildering to advertise the so-called "canon" couple this way, even if it is a love song (which, as people explained, aren't always positive and might just be about Hinata). I would think that the canon couple wouldn't be ship-teased as much as this. It's like giving away the canon pairing ... which is exactly why this doesn't feel right.
Besides the fact they both look depressed, what really sticks out to me is the symbolism. You have Hinata on one side---green, lush trees and healthiness. And then you have Naruto--- barren, yellow grass, stripped trees. The stark contrast is very powerful symbolism. Hinata's facing Naruto and all the greenery is like it shows the strength of her feelings for him and desire to be with him. But Naruto's angle is his back towards and from that direction it looks so barren ... as if there's nothing he can feel and that's all that awaits Hinata. Notice how she faces him and it shifts from green to yellow.
Idk. The symbolism is so noticeable and strong it really does give a feel of a rejection scene. If it was an opposite personality couple meaning, then Naruto would be probably be the more healthy side (he's usually associated with cheer and liveliness) while Hinata would be the barren one. She's introverted and shy.
I know we can't be sure of anything, but this does feel like overplayed ship teasing. Countless series have down this, bait a fandom with hints of a ship that seem obvious just before sinking the ship for good. I know for a fact the Avatar writers did it with the Zutara fans. It's actually a quite smart, though insensitive, marketing strategy. I don't think Kishi or any of the writers are reserved to doing this.
It's also suspicious to me how all these hints for NH and SS (let's just say 693 because of the 'confession') are showing up now so abundantly after all the NaruSaku foreshadowing and development. That should still be solid ... so this? Overplayed hints that are just enough to make rival fanbases confident but not enough for a complete fact?
If NaruHina really is canon, then it's completely contradicting the manga. Naruto hasn't shown any type of hint of feelings for Hinata like Sakura has with Naruto and not even that long ago he called Sakura his girlfriend; with Hinata around. Why would Naruto suddenly have feelings for Hinata in off-screen development during a timeskip when that should've been built on way earlier? Why keep his feelings for Sakura in the last stages of the manga with no signs of weakening? I don't even think NH should be satisfied with this even if they are canon, it feels like a total cop out.
All I can say is: this is either marketing and/or foreshadowing of a NH rejection scene or editors intervened and forced Kishimoto to make NaruHina canon.
