Just happy to see that my Canucks realized they don't need to win pretty, they just need to win. Beautiful adjustments, shutting down those stretch plays the Blackhawks love to run.

Although I have to wonder; I love me some big-headed Sedin twins but Daniel, what were you thinking on that tripping penalty on the icing? Just a silly mistake that led to Chicago's lone goal.

Seems more and more likely that Balsillie will be able to buy the Coyotes and move them to Southern Ontario. Bettman is starting to run out of excuses.

Coyotes are a promising young team... which would garner a lot of attention from Lead fans that never have anything to cheer about.

EDIT: And oh yeah... the ref's name last night was Brad Watson.

Seriously... watching this again gives me that sick (& angry) feeling I had yesterday. This is one of the worst (if not the worst) calls I've ever seen watching hockey (and I watch a good amount of hockey !).

6 straight powerplays for the Penguins.

I'm sorry, but I can't help but feel that the referees were obviously on Pittsburgh's side. I guess if it's for the NHL ratings... haha...

The penalties were ridiculous.

Jurcina gets cross-checked into his own net while the puck is behind the net, and it's a penalty against Jurcina for 'delay of game.'

Varlamov gets mugged, and it's a penalty against Varlamov for slashing.

Malkin pulls an Avery and butt-ends Morrisonn in the eye with his stick right in front of the referee, and it's... nothing.

The saying is that a 'great team can overcome bad officiating' (which is silly by the second round of the playoffs; both teams should be 'great' to get that far, so a great team with officiating lopsided against it is supposed to win against a great team with lopsided officiating for it every time?), and the Caps didn't; in fact, they may have played their worst game of the playoffs (either round). But that officiating was ridiculous, today.

You haven't experienced the full cofusion of modern gender relations until you've heard an angry group of women yelling, "We want tentacles!" at an all-night Hentai-fest.

I didn't watch the entire game (most of it... but I was flipping between this and the Bos-Car game) but I remember seeing this penalty and just thinking wtf...

Malkin skated right into Varlamov and the referee was... "looking the other way" (although I don't know where he could have been looking since that's where the play was)... but the slash he catches...

I rolled my eyes, thought "Don't worry Pittsburgh, if you don't score on this powerplay you'll be getting another one", and switched the channel to the (IMO) more interesting game of Boston & Carolina on TSN.
Pretty bored.

Campbell once again shows that he has no idea what he's doing and just hands out suspensions randomly.

No suspension for Walker for his cheap-shot on Ward.

Referees throughout the Ducks-Wings series were a joke. So many bad calls and non-calls every game.

Wow, I'm terrible at these series predictions... but here goes another shot.

Round 3 (picks bolded)

Chicago Hawks vs Detroit Red Wings - 6 games

Carolina Hurricanes vs Pittsburgh Penguins - 7 games

Yep, I'll take the Wings over the Hawks and the Canes over the Pens as well.

Jeez... I visit a good amount of hockey forums (as well as hockey capping forums) and I'm starting to see the "Hawks are the best team in the West/NHL" and "Penguins are the best team in the East/NHL" threads more and more... not to mention the "These Hawks/Pens are SO much like the 80's Oilers!"...

It's kind of frustrating.

Chicago vs Detroit
Khabibulin made some big saves, but he also let in some weak goals. In the end, Detroit's dominance over the puck is too much for the Hawks to handle.

Carolina vs Pittsburgh
Forget defense in this series. A lot of defensive break-downs on both sides in Game 1. This series will be about which goalie can stand on his head longer. In a 7 game series... I'll take Ward over Fleury easily.
Pretty bored.

I'm hoping that the Canes can get a miracle as well... since I don't like the Pens.

A little statistic for you: 31 teams have been up 3-0 in the semi-finals... 31 of them won the series.

New Oilers Coaches: Quinn (head) & Renney (assistant)

Oooh... after a month of waiting for the Oilers to name a new head coach... Tambellini goes out and gets 2.

Both have known & are friends with Tambellini so I'm hoping another KLowe-MacT thing doesn't develop... but otherwise I'm pretty happy.

I'm not completely sold on either coach, but I won't judge until I see what they can do in the next couple seasons.

I was going to post this after the first game...

Teams in the SCF who have won Game 1 by 2 goals are 11-0

Here's another for you...

Teams who go up 2-0 in the SCF are 41-3 since 1939

Every decade has had back-to-back Stanley Cup winners except for this one... so far...

------------

Also, if Osgood wins another SC here... I think he has to be put into the Hall of Fame... you just can't ignore his post-season numbers/success.

The Penguins are playing better than they were last year... they're even keeping up with Detroit in the shot count... I think they even out-shot them this game (although I'm not sure of that)... but Detroit just dominates the ice too much and pounces on every opportunity. Also, Penguins are going to be hard-pressed to get that many goals past Osgood without any net presence.
