Script fics are fics written in the form of a movie or play script. For example:


Naruto: Hi, Sakura-chan.

Sakura: Leave me alone, Naruto. Oh hi, Sasuke-kun.

Sasuke: ....


Obviously, this brief exchange sucks. Most scripts fics are a better than this, though many I've read are not much better. In most cases, there is almost no description, though a few authors will place some description between sets of dialogue. Think of an IM or chatroom conversation, which is a common premise for this type of fic.

Oh god I hate script fics! There's barely any details! Although there are some good one-shots, I personally...um how to put this lightly...dislike one-shots. I prefer continuations. Plus I hate those stories where they double space for each sentence. Hate them. Plus, I'm not too much of a fan of OOCness. Although I do have a fanfic that is OOC, I'm thinking of deleting that story soon. I dunno. :shamefulcry0js: (This sucks because I've already deleted 2 out of 4 fanfics in FF.net) Plus I think that if you stick true to the character's personality, or make the fic detailed and realistic, more people will like it. (In my opinion) I also hate the fics that are blown out of proportion. For example, they make everything so...unbelievable.. Everything is unrealistic and it will never ever happen. Anyway Oyasumi!


Oh yeah one more thing. I also hate it when people change the character's look. You know like they change the hair color or make them more handsome or something like that. I also hate those very short chapters that ppl write. They have like less than 3000 words in them. I mean man that's short. I prefer longer chapters. Oh. An I also hate crossovers. They always get so confusing. Plus they make the cast of Naruto fall in love with whatever anime/manga character the crossover is. I mean really! And I hate any yaoi/yuri/ or any random and doesn't make sense couples. And I hate the OCs that are Mary-sues and/or Gary-stues. For all those who don't know MS and GS are the perfect character. Perfect bloodline, perfect personality, perfect perfect perfect! Ugh it makes me sick. It's basically Sasuke and Sakura without flaws. Ugh. -throws up- Disgusting. I like Sakura-chan a lot and Sasuke-teme/kun too. But MSs and GSs are just blech in my opinion. PHew. That's about it. Anyway Sayonara!

I find that if I see a story with less than 2000~3000 words per chapter, quite often I would avoid it. By doing so, I find that it typically filters out a lot of bad ones. Of course, it doesn't get rid of all of them, but it is a useful filter nonetheless.

Also, I typically avoid stories where at the introduction there is a person waking up and then slamming the alarm clock down to quiet the alarm. I find that beginnings of a story are very important, so whenever I see a opening that is so... cliche, I just cringe and stop. This type of story introduction is quite common and so overdone that its gotten to a point where it makes me sick. I do flip through a few more chapters to see if there's any redeemable quality about it, but most the time it just ends up staying bad throughout.

Stories in which an OC replaces a canon team member (usually by the canon character dying - in most cases Sakura if this OC joins Team 7), or stories in which an OC joins an already three-man team to make it a four-man team (or in some cases, five, or even six... AGH!). Although the author/authoress might claim that this is not self-insertion, but sorry, I just can't believe that is the case in those types of stories. I don't think I've read one story, to this date, that inserted OCs in an established team and actually turned it into a good story. Please point me out one if there is. Please.

Any fanfic that has "Please Review!" or "Please Vote on Pairings" in their summary, or something similar. Although I admit that I am a review whore myself - and by that I mean I jump up and down in glee whenever I get one - I still won't do that because I hate to just downright beg like that for reviews. Kindly asking for it in the Author's Notes (which is what I do sometimes) or just putting "R&R" in the summary and ONLY that is okay, but when a large part of the Summary is devoted to begging the readers review on their work, I just stay clear. It doesn't mean anything when all reviews on a story is committed to simple words like "plz update!" or "naruhina sasusaku plz!" is not a review at all. Even I find myself dissapointed whenever I get reviews on my story like that. The only reviews that really count are the ones where the reader actually spend his/her time on and making a meaningful comment on that story.

Slightly related to that, I sometimes find myself looking at the reviews of a story before I actually look at the story itself. If the reviews are full of the stuff I mentioned above, I tend to avoid it.

Summary that says "I suck at writing the summary". If you do suck at writing something that is quite possibly the most important thing to motivate readers into reading your story, then what guarantee do I have that you don't suck at writing the story itself?

I'm sure there are more that I could add, but that's about it for now I guess...

Have you read one of Kuwabara's Pupil and I.P. Freely's story? (one person only) Naruto is a jounin and has his own team to handle and there are lots of OCs, the title is The Kids of Glory, there are many volumes...I think it is good. But we have different tastes so I don't know if you'll like it...

There's one script that I think is good...Konoha's Guide To Everything, but the pairing is slightly SasuSaku, but it's funny...Except the part where Sasuke always calls Naruto an idiot! I hate that!

For exemple, i'll recomment elizabeth culmer's the way of the appartment manager, or "happy ending" by an author of here, or even a story with the title of "teenage ninja heroes" or something, done by valles-uf i think...they are at least well written, so i like them, and they have a plot.

on the other hand, when a story ask to vote for something, it usualy means that the author doesn't know where he is going, and this isn't of the good.

There are many other OC stories that I have read that are actually good so by no means am I bashing them.

It's just that... well, when an OC shows up and totally messes up the character development that is already in place, I cringe. Most self-inserts do this, ignoring every other character and hooking herself/himself up with the character they like. Stories like where this forgotten Uchiha member, a girl, shows up in front of Konoha all bloodied and she turns out she is the long lost friend of Sasuke's and old feelings start to reawaken as she joins Team 7... something like that. I think you get the idea.

Yah, I know what self-insert characters do and I agree that it is sometimes annoying. It's even more annoying if the self-insert is the center of the story...I won't read that kind of story, also if the OC is the center too...that'll be too lame, for my opinion...

A Legend of the Past, a Savior of the Future (remember, this is a Princess Mononoke fanfic, not Naruto)

It's incomplete, but it's impressive work nonetheless. It's a self-insert actually written in a way that's believable. Honestly, I haven't seen another one pull it off quite as good as this one with the exception of maybe "The Lazy Uchiha". The introduction of that story was funny as hell.

Back on topic. I've just read a fic minutes ago that was quite possibly one of the worst I've ever seen. The problem? Author's notes at the BEGINNING of the chapter/story... that was longer than the actual story itself.

I actually haven't read "Training for the Job" yet, but not because of the notes at the beginning of the chapters through. I tend to like reading whole stories in one sitting, and I simply haven't had the time to do so. I have heard from many people that it is a great story, so I hope I'll get around to it eventually.

And yes, I do read HxH. I very much enjoyed that crossover aspect by introducing Nen into the Naruto world. I'm quite the crossover fan actually, especially the ones that are done well. One of my favorites recently is the crossover story between Berserk and Naruto - two totally different genres yet the author does a brilliant job in pulling it off. I am however dissapointed slightly with the sequel the authoress has written for "Naruto's Mom"... maybe I just need to spend more time on it to read the story carefully, perhaps, but it doesn't give me the same kind of hold the other story had on me.

Have you heard of an Oh! My Goddess! story called Trial by Tenderness? I think this is the best self-insertion story I have read (And if fact the only one I could stand to), though it does drop in quality past chapter 60 or so.

Reading your posts makes me regret taking such a long hiatus from H&E, rare to see my views in fan fiction reflected quite so accurately. I'm sure we'll get along quite well.
