Is she the daughter of Luke or Han?

Based on her memory, she was still a small child when she was left on Jakku, so I doubt she had any prior training, and it's believed that she's Luke's daughter primarily because Disney Infinity 3.0 has Kylo Ren calling her "cousin".

I think once all the hype dies down people will see how awful the movie really was. All it really was was just another Marvel movie at the end of the day, and GOD do I hate Marvel movies.

I agree his death was poor, but Ford's performance was bet out of the original cast.

It was better than his performance in crystal skull and I'll give him credit. I didn't think it was great but I don't think that's his fault, he is in his 70s.

 

 

Saw the movie a second time and honestly I think its awful. Not that I hate people for liking it, to each his own.

Do I think it's better than the prequels? Yes I do because to me it brought the feel of the original three compared to the prequels it was a step up. It wasnt a great film like the originals Star Wars but they're a hell of a lot better than the dreaded prequels. I also think that it was a bit lacking in the story telling department by my complaints about her automatically knowing, how to use the force, to her being a Mary Sue type character, and not explaining, how she was able to weld the force so well without training.

 

How is Rey any more of a Mary Sue than Luke was? It's such a tired argument. Is Rey using the force against Kylo Ren supposedly without any training any different from Luke using the force to destroy the Death Star without any training?

It's been confirmed that Ren says "curses" not "cousin."

Using the force to do stuff like getting the lightsaber isn't really such an big deal. But the fact she mind tricked that stormtrooper on the first try without any training really pushed her on the boundaries of mary sueness.

And that's fair. But again, how is that any different than Luke managing to destroy the Death Star using the force? Also, for what it's worth, I think we'll find out in subsequent films that she DOES have training.

Luke had to train and got defeated by Vader in the second movie. In the third movie he didn't even beat the emperor, Vader took him from behind. 

 

Rey pasted the main bad guy (The Vader of the film) and exhibited a mastery of the force only matched by masters in the other films. The mind trick was only used by masters in every star wars film. Not too mention that Kylo Ren had been shown to have plenty of combat experience hunting Jedi. And he got pasted.

 

I'm glad to have a female lead who is a force user but I don't like Mary Sues. They're cheap, they harm every character around them, and they ruin the story. Just compare with Hinata who suddenly pulled lion fists out of her ass and brought down the entire story as well as ruining the main female lead's focus in order to get her happy ending.

 

 

And honestly, is anybody really afraid of the First Order or Kylo Ren? Can we really consider them good villains?

Um at least Luke did have some training before Obi ones death dude. Rey tricked a storm trooper without any training that's pushing it due to the fact only masters like Kenboi could use it. Even Luke had to train his ass off to kill Vader but couldn't in the second film. He still was too weak against Vader and the emperor after he finished his training. But somehow this Mary Sue character, even though, I love the fact we have a female force user was able to outsmart and out class the bad without any force training come on.

I do hope they flesh it out more in the long run and explain why and how she was able to do these things without so much of a hint of her being trained to weld the force. They should've at least try to hint at the possibility that she had been trained by Luke and she was left by him on Jankku. For example, Han might or should've said that "You remind me of one of the children that had been training under Luke along with my son Ben. But she was killed by Snoke and Ben Solo, when he turned to the dark side. But you couldn't be her since we buried her body with the other children."

Or "You remind of my niece Jada Skywalker, funnily enough she was killed by my own son Ben Solo,when he turned." You know a little hint that she might just be Luke's daughter but she forgot him because of a memory wipe

We didn't need the game to screw up and give away the big reveal because the movie already made it obvious who she really is. Yeah. She's been living on her own on a fierce desert planet for many years. That's where she learned to fly; to fight; and to understand machinery. As for her force powers: I think people are really stretching to justify Luke's use of the force as less Mary Sue-ish than Rey's. The entire point of the film is that the force is awakening in her. And I think it's pretty clear that she's learning to tap into the force through her interactions with Kylo Ren.

 

I think there are plenty of criticisms you can make about the film. It's similarities to A New Hope is fair. I also think Finn's arc was terribly executed. But complaining about Rey being a Mary Sue is missing the mark and shooting for the lowest common denominator.

I've never watched the other movies, but I know the deal OK. But I watched this one because of the hype. Was fun and everything. And kitten now I have a crush on Poe and his actor, ahg I didn't need this..

 

I think Rey is more OP than a Mary Sue. She has some complexity, I think female characters gets branded a MS so much easier than men. Maybe Kylo Ren was defeated because they're not planning to make a sequel? IDK. They should, if they like money. Maybe he takes a Zuko.

Rey's mind control was kinda cool actually, but I didn't like how she suddenly became a swordmaster after refusing to fall off a cliff.. Her knowledge on those machines made absolute sense, but they pushed it too much with the constant compliments from Han. I think Finn is cute, but I've seen his character in so many other movies, he is nothing new. I think my fav character is Rey, Poe, and Maz.

 

My biggest complaint was Han Solo's death, I mean wtf? Is that how he really died? I expected more than that from such a big character, and Wikipedia showed an entirely different ending for him.

han's death is what made me write the movie off. i'm surprised many people haven't seen the original star wars
