REALLY? it's not about the fanservice that you say that? pictureem0.gif (just kidding I believe you) cool.gif Well I agree its not like Fairy Tail is like Naruto really like how Toriko is similar to One Piece I mean they had that cross over right? anyways I'm sure though Naruto will inspire a future manga someday and THAT will be its spiritual successor like One Piece to Dragon Ball. So Codus your preference order in the big three?

1. Naruto
2. Bleach
3. OP

QUOTE (Miss Soupy @ Jul 29 2011, 04:28 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
The big difference is that Fairy Tail doesn't seem to have a huge overall plot in the same way Naruto does. While Naruto is definitely moving towards something, it is a lot more vague as to what Fairy Tail is moving towards. Each arc comes up with its own storyline generally, which may or may not mean anything later. The only real clue we have towards direction is locating the dragons. To me, the two mangas are quite different.

I don't really know their popularity in comparison, however, so I'm not saying FT couldn't be the next big 3. You'd have to compare FT to other popular shounen manga though.

In terms of popularity, FT can certainly be a successor to Naruto's spot once it ends. But overall, maybe not so much. But however, Mashima seems to be in full gear with the main plot as of now.

What with Zeref suddenly appearing, Mavis, Hades and so much more.

If Mashima keeps this up in the next few years, FT may just take Naruto's spot once it ends. Hell, FT ranked in Top 5 last year, if I remember correctly.

The only thing Fairy Tail needs to be a successor of Naruto, if and only if, it is release in American/Western shores in both media formats plus advertise very well so the audience can recognize. As of now, no one isn't mentioning the series to the Western publishers.

Are you saying that no one is talking about it? Because Funimation is doing a dub version, which might possibly lead to a network picking it up. I have high hopes for Fairy Tail gaining notice here in the West.

I'm saying it from a marketing POV. Sure Funimation is creating a dub version, but what's the date of the manga release, not to mention when are they airing the anime on TV?

Hardly only Naruto, Dragon Ball, Digimon, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh are currently the top-selling all-around Japanese media internationally because they are cash cows (mainly people will buy that in a minute). Following those are series that ranging from good to meh are series like Bleach and Full Metal Alchemist. If Fairy Tail comes out, it probably follow the same route as the others, which the manga will possibly continue running on US Shonen Jump (which right now, Viz Media doesn't have the rights for the series yet).

That's pretty much it. FT is currently gaining major popularity in Japan and it's tailing the Top 3 from behind. I've heard people saying it's only a matter of time until FT gets a permanent spot in the Top 3.

But as for it being a true successor to take Naruto's place, it still has a long, long way to go. It needs a lot of marketability in the international audience. I think if there's one thing that's hindering it to be successful in the international audience is the amount of ecchi in it. Bleach and OP also has quite a bit of ecchi.

If there's going to be one manga that would be a successor to Naruto, it's gonna be a long time until it appears. Because there's two things it needs to fulfill. Less ecchi, big fights. What DBZ and Naruto has in common is the minimal amount of ecchi, which is why it's "acceptable" on international shores. It's why it also get good ratings on international TV because of parents' "approval". Thanks to that, Naruto and DBZ has become an influential anime/manga series in the world.

While Fairy Tale certainly is gaining in popularity, what series I see being cosplayed with high popularity the past couple of years and growing is- Hetalia. (at conventions all over the world) It's now even more popular than Naruto and Bleach, the now typically second and third most popular cosplay. There's been no drop in Naruto cosplay, and maybe just a slight drop in Bleach.

As far as in Japan, I wouldn't surprised if Takahashi's Rinne doesn't start jumping in popularity. After a bit of a shaky start Takahashi looks to have finally started building a solid story. It's clearly meant to be lighter than Inuyasha but darker than Ranma 1/2. It has more classic Takahashi style humor in it than Inuyasha, but has about the least fan service I've seen in a Takahashi story. (she may have noticed that Kishimoto was able to create a massively popular series with far less fan service than normal in a shonen series and decided to try that route herself.) Rinne is also far less with the attitude than her typical male main character, nor is he pervy. Rinne Rokudo is pretty much a nice guy more like her Godai and the main female character Sakura Mamiya is kind of like her Kyoko. Ageha is the tsundere of the series, and the more typical brash guy of the series is Tsubasa. Ageha and Tsubasa squabble with each other and Ageha has a bit of a thing for Rinne while Tsubasa has a big crush on Sakura. Sakura and Rinne both have feelings for each other and seem to be vaguely aware of the other's feelings, but Takahashi's letting things develop slowly this time on that front. It's pretty obvious, if you know the usual guidelines, eventually Ageha and Tsubasa will go from squabbling to attraction. smile.gif

I've never read Rinne yet but it sounds pretty good, but it doesn't measure up to Inuyasha's popularity laugh.gif

I don't think Hetalia would technically count in this case, since it isn't shounen and not really released in any magazine. Most of Hetalia comics are short, funny, and contain a lot of suspicious male relationships XD But it is really is entertaining and contains historical events, even if you aren't a yaoi fan it's hard not to enjoy and ship the characters. heheelq7.png

i never saw the hetalia characters in a yaoi way XDD i always thought....."bromance..."

XD i like hetalia though.

but i still dont think fairy tail can make it to the big three. BUT if it gets a main plot and gets more development on the characters then im sure it can get better. (and kill off a character or 2 for once!!) XD

IMO

Well it is definitely candy for the yaoi fans, I think, given the amount of male characters there are and the fact that there is so much dramaz amongst them. I mean, Italy and Germany? That has been pushed quite far into canon yaoi land XD I don't like yaoi myself, but do enjoy the 'bromances'. Especially USUK. England does tsundere right, and America is so lovable and goofy, makes me proud to be...in him XD LOL

Fairy Tail I think is simply meant to be more light-hearted. I don't think it needs to be changed via character deaths and uber seriousness. Though, the current arc has been more serious than other arcs, I feel, so perhaps it will take a different turn. Still waiting for the main plot to be clear XD

I think that Fairy Tail is already set as it is, the main plot of the show is obliviously the dragons disapearence, but I suppose Mashima won't touch the subject till the final arc of the manga.

^^ You know I'm gonna agree with you, often times when I watch animes, I usually keep the sound off and I always imagine Natsu with a high pitch voice, probably on the basis of his character and his emotional patterns.

Now, I do believe that this is a worthy successor to the big three because I get that great feeling when watching the anime or reading the manga that I hadn't felt for other animes/mangas except for Naruto. Now, as for the main plot of the story, its obviously revolves around the whereabouts of the dragons that raised their successors (Gajeel, Wendy, Nastu).

I saw that dub. Every time I hear Erza's voice I think chain smoker for some reason. Funimation's actress for Erza is the voice of Riza Hawkeye.
