That's what I don't understand, why can't the directors make a autentic reproduction of the anime, game, cartoon, etc that they are adapting into a movie? Grrr, I ripping my hair off right now. Don't they know that the fandom and majority of the public will automaticaly hate him if he do that? What draw people to go see a movie adaptation in first place, is the fact that they are hoping to see faithfull version of the original title being displayed.
Take Hitman the movie, even tought it had some good action packed scenes and a nice spy feeling into it, why did they have to put a actor that looks nothing like 47 and totally change his origins? Why Century Fox, why?

Part of the problem is that it is not always possible to recreate an anime or comic exactly as you see it. there are just things that animation can do that real life cant even with CG. it either comes off as too corny or the animation is forced or the acting becomes kinda silly or ludacris.
can you see some fo the anime expressions on real life actors? itd look beyond silly. Even sme of the childishness of avatar doesnt translate well ons creen.
So yeah i can see why a director would have to make very minor changes or corrections to keep film consistency.
But some directors just get it into their heads that changing one thing isnt enough and go hogwild changing everything and sundry.
that was shyamalns problem with last airbender. He took too many liberties, changed the characters till they were unrecognizable, and just plain botched several plot elements that were crucial to the overal story.
as I said In my review one of the prime plot elements and character elements was Aang falling in love with Katara at first sight. many of his interactions with her and a large part of his growth as a character is based in this at first child like attraction which nicely morphs into a mature true love over time between both of them.
Katara as well at first is very motherly to him but she too begins to show signs as she grows in character that this is mroe then simple sibling attraction. As well we see that the hope Aang kindles in Katara on top of her attraction and fascination with him is the reason she is so determined to save him when the Zuko takes him away.
In TLAB Shyamalan removes these elements completely their is no such connection between them such that the relationship between the characters is dismissable and basically unrealistic.
Its this type of liberty taken with the source material that many directors just dont seem to get. Another issue is that these self same directors also have little or no knowledge or experince with the source materials and try and take it in the direction they do for that lack of experince.
If you havent even read the souce material how can you ever give an accurate story.
It would be the equivalent of shooting a Thor movie and giving thor a battle axe. the mythology is clear Thor weilds a Hammer its the very symbol of the god.
but if the director make sno effort at research then the movie simply comes off as a bad clone.
Hollywood seems to thrive on thsi type of misrepresentation. One prime example was to me a pretty good movie. Final Fantasy the spirits within. I thought it was a decent movie with groun breaking special effects.
one problem though.
It had nothing to do with the final fantasy series at all. Had it not had the final fantasy title tagged onto it, it could ahve been a decent standalone movie entitled the spirits within. But the producers decided to try and ride the popularity of the final fantays series whicha t the time was rolling on the shoulders of VII i believe.
So we the audience got snookered and the movie bombed terribly.
