He can without the necklace to an extent. Remember when he was Rasengan Shurikan training..? He used some kind of wood jutsu to absorb the chakra or something...

But wasn't that before the necklace was destroyed? The necklace was destroyed during the Pain fight.

and Yamato's technique does need the necklace according to the wiki page on it

He shouldn't have to since he carries Hashirama's DNA and chakra. Wikipedia is done by regular enthusiast not Kishi and his editors. The necklace contained a small amount of Hashi's chakra making it ideal as a portable seal with Yamoto gone, remember the Pain invasion arc where he rushed back to Konoha so he could seal Naruto back but couldn't because Kyuubi kept growing.

I also believe that's why Yamoto was chosen to go with Naruto.

I also noticed that KB didn't seem to have been treated the same as Naruto was, as a matter of fact, the village looks up to this guy, maybe its the fact that he can control it, that makes the village at ease.

Here's what i predict in the next 4 chapters
KB and NU are gonna talk, which will lead to an argument, which will probably lead to a fight
After the fight they become friends
KB and NU train to control the 9 tails, pray that it isn't about rapping or ill give up on this manga
Kisame appears, KB and NU make a fish fillet out of him.

Also, i notice KB gets along well with his Bijuu...not like Naruto and the Kyubi which hate each other. Maybe it will work like making a pact, like the toad king thingy...
