I think she's still shy and but not unconfident, it's part of her character but what changed is that she now trusts on her own power, she doesnt look down at herself i think it was her development.

This is a decent argument, but one could easily counter because Naruto has not shown being over Sakura or doubting his love for her has he?

 

While the whole girlfriend event can be viewed differently, to me its practically confirmed but again, this type of argument has a lot of grey areas that could be argued like:

-If Naruto was seriously looking at Hinata now, why make this happen? Just so he could annoy her? Woundn't this action give Hinata the message that he does not like her (yet going by the argument)?

-This is just standard stuff between Naruto and Sakura, a simple hero-goofball and heroine-tsundere relation. Its been years since this type of humor was around, most recently was Naruto falling ill due to accidentally getting nailed with Sakura's posion Kunai she intended to use on Sasuke.

-The "Naruto never jokes about his feelings" argument can factor into this as well considering he didn't like it when Sakura did the cover up at the land of iron, Naruto would not really be doing the same to her. Besides, in that land of iron event, he learned Sakura had a purpose for lying, for his wellbeing.

-The surprised look at Sakura's power this can refer to him never poking fun at her again/ being careful around her, Naruto stated this when he first saw her using chakra enhanced strength. He said all the way back then, "I've gotta stop acting dumb around Sakura, shes gonna kill me." Now its just built upon with the whole, "She will reduce me to a stain." As the translation said too, it was oppose, so he for all intents and purposes should be careful around Sakura if it involved arguing or setting her off. This all just falls back to their basic relationship, the humor aspect of it.

 

Most important of all: The parallel, even if it has not been fully confirmed and we may need to wait a bit longer, think of the parallel. Its not only a simple confirmation of Sakura=Kushina. Its a foreshadowing element that can come into play again, despite the event there, kishi chose to put a reminder of Kushina on Minato because he saw how Sakura acted. Due to those words Kushina first spoke and how Minato said, "This girl reminds me a lot of Kushina." Its a continuation of that foreshadowing theme. Its telling the readers, Sakura and Kushina have a similarity, the foreshadowing element is saying that Sakura is that girl who is like Kushina, as Kushina said for Naruto to find a girl like his mother. Basically the parallel opened a gateway, all the similar stuff Sakura and Kushina had in their own childhoods along with how Naruto and Minato interacted with them respectively, it has triggered a few things that have a high chance of coming to light now, mainly stuff like the forehead compliment. Its not hard to think Naruto may give some reaction or spew something out to Sakura building on this past event considering what just appeared on her forehead. Sounds kinda cheesy but its just right there, again a plot element on Sakura's forehead that not only gave her power but could trigger another event to build upon the foreshadowing of Kushina's words and Minato's input.

 

Biggest part of all with the parallel, Kishi could have just not written it the way it was, he could have not had Naruto do the event and keep the parallel away till later. He could have saved it for some event with Hinata but he chose Sakura and Minato to interact and Sakura reminded him of Kushina. Either way as of right now, Minato thinks Sakura is like Kushina, this is telling that to the readers too and right now saying that Kushinas words basically mean Sakura = find a girl like your mother as Kushina said. Changing it now would just downplay or make things harder to follow considering even without the parallel, both Sakura and Kushina have many many siliarties, some which were just too obvious even before this event.

 

In the long run, to most people, maybe they just need a more direct answer, should something like the forehead deal come up, that can be the thing to say naruto still loves Sakura.

I dont understand why so many people believe that naruto was serious about saying sakura is his girlfriend. He knows that shes not his Gf, it was just a comic moment. 

I mean yeah, it shows that he still has feelings for her, but he simply wasnt serious about her beeing his girlfriend. (as long as it didnt happen offpanel somehow/ unlikely)

 

I also see the whole girlfriend talk with minato unimportant, its nothing more then comedy. The important thing that supports NS in 631 is the sakura/ kushina parallel that shows kihis intention.

We are fans, we can't guarantee anything. But I bet. I have no doubt, personally. Kishi has been tying things up lately, that was said years ago.

Why would he joke about that to his father? He didn't even have a comedic face expression, and Japanese culture is so strict.

Agreed, before I might not have thought Kishi would do it, but lately it seems he just may, now seems like the perfect time to hope for a forehead kiss / bench scene!

Looks that way. Parallel and her having a seal on her forehead, as well as going back to Part 1 and address the developments, it seems like we will get chapter 3 redux.

 

Which reminds me. Does anyone think we are going to get a new development in this volume on romance? I can't say resolution since that's the ending to take care of that, but yeah, thoughts?

I don't know, I think the main focus would be on Obito and Madara. I would love to see another hug scene though, hopefully it will dampen down the "brother/ sister" relationship argument.

Well if these guys keep backsiding the whole thing, then focus is now on Team 7 with trying to end Juubi. I know what you mean but I'm having a hard time to predict where's this heading to. Also, when I say developments, it could be anything, not only physical action, but also thoughts and words. But who knows.

Allow me to borrow/modify something I posted on the #631 thread....

 

 

This is what Naruto looks like when he's joking / not serious / lying about his relationship with Sakura.  You can tell he's lying not only by his words but by his expression and posture as well.  There's always some kind of "tell" when he's joking.  He's got a cheesy smile, or he's doing something completely outrageous, or he's sneaking around, or he's generally being a doofus. 

Then there's #631....

 

 

We get a significantly different expression and response from Naruto. He is as sober as a judge here. The look on his face is serious.  The words he uses are serious.  There's no hint of joking whatsoever.  HE IS NOT JOKING.

 

I can understand why anti-NS folks would want to downplay this moment as a joke or something casual, but I can't understand why any NS fan would say he is joking here when he clearly is not.  He's not even smiling, for crying out loud!

 

The comment Naruto made in #632 -- "I'll never, never turn on Sakura-chan again... she'll pulverize me...." or "Ne-never again... I can't ever poke fun of Sakura-chan again... otherwise she'll turn me into a stain...."  (depending on the translation) -- WAS a joke.  You can tell by the "lady lips" caricature of his face and the overall silliness. He's referring to all the stupid jokey crap he's done over the years to get a rise out of her -- the Oiroke no Jutsu, teasing her about being strong, etc. -- NOT his feelings for her.

 

Remember his reaction in #469?  How he told Sakura -- twice -- that joking about something like loving him or choosing him over Sasuke wasn't funny?  Right.  But we're supposed to believe he turned around and "joked" about Sakura being his girlfriend to his father?  Please. 

 

As far as I'm concerned, trying to link the obvious joke in #632 to Naruto's answer to his father in #631 is either willful blindness or a desperate attempt to invalidate Naruto's declared feelings for Sakura.
