To be fair, it was the Democratic Party and it's primary voters that helped Obama win the nomination over Clinton and not the general electorate. They chose Obama over McCain.

Too late to cry over spilled milk, America. You voted a 'community organizer' into power who had absolutely no experience, over someone who has been in politics for half of her adult life, and actually knows what she's doing.

Are people going for archaic as in 'olden times', or archaic as literally 'old'? Because Don't Ask, Don't Tell was established in the 1990's, and seeing as how most of the people here were born then, it isn't that old. Plus, in olden times, many armies had homosexual soldiers, so that doesn't make any sense to me either. I've been seeing 'archaic' put around everywhere on Don't Ask, Don't Tell, so can anyone explain to me how it applies correctly?

In this case Yoshi, it means that it is an 'old' way of thinking. The 'old' way of thinking that women were inferior and couldn't vote. That blacks should be slaves. That just because you may like someone of the same gender, you can not serve in the military. It's old/archaic/old-fashioned and past time to be brought into our modern society where people are supposed to be judged as equals and not discriminated against.

As someone who served and served with gay people. I can tell you quite factually, that the entire DADT mess will go away with a whimper and not a bang. Just like the integrration of blacks, and women did.

once the order goes out the soldiers will go on with their lives and duties exactly as they have before, only difference being that a percentage of them wont have to worry about accidently slipping that their gay and getting kicked out for it.

Some people may complain, a few may resign, the vast majority will shrug their shoulders and go about their business as if nothing happened.

There will not be horrendous disruptions in combat units, there will not be new rules or training needed. nor will new regulations or orders need to be handed down. Harrassment, and fraternization rules allreayd exist, and cover these situations just as well as they did before.

Simply put the whole thing is much ado about nothing and will have the exact same impact on our military readiness as black integration and women did.

It will vastly improve our combat readiness and capabilties.

trust me you wouldnt know the difference.

When the bullets start flying the only thing you worry about is that the person next to you can shoot straight, not whether or not they are straight.

The only concern people will have once this is revealed is whether everyone does their jobs right. Since this is the main concern now with it in place nothing will change in the slightest.

Good job Republicans. Screw up on the first day of work by going to a party instead of swearing in, then voting before swearing in thus invalidating every vote made by the entire House, and soliciting re-election funds at said party in the Congress building which happens to be against the law.

It'll take 2 weeks to fix this mess they made in the first 2 days:

And the hillarious part is they were elected on platforms that stated they were constituional purists etc etc et all.

I still havent stopped laughing at the sheer stupidity of the whole thing.

Too late to cry over spilled milk, America. You voted a 'community organizer' into power who had absolutely no experience, over someone who has been in politics for half of her adult life, and actually knows what she's doing.

It really wouldn't make much difference; many of the worst presidents had lots of experience in politics, and conversely some good ones had little experience; Lincoln served one term as a Representative, then returned to practicing law, ran for election into congress for nearly ten years but was never elected, then ran as president, which he won (my understanding of what happened between the two is a little shaky, so do correct me if I'm wrong). Also, a large part of why Obama won was because disasters like the war and deficit were caused by people who HAD experience; as a friend of mine said, "Those with experience got us INTO this mess". Also, the system is so broken it really wouldn't matter who gets elected. Both parties are bought by special interests and coorporations, and whoever would won otherwise would inherit the same mess and likely have the same difficulty Obama has (if you believe he's trying anyway) trying to fix it .

Many have also been spelling Obama's current approval ratings as his doom, but this is not unusual. Both Regan and Clinton experienced low approval ratings and take over of Congress by the opposition, not to mention the war made Bush 2 look pretty bad. And all three won a second term (especially Regan). So, chances of Obama serving a second term, like it or not, are still pretty good, and even many Republicans will admit that. If they are to have any chance of winning, they are going to have to pick someone who will reach across both parties, make Obama look REALLY bad while making their choice REALLY good.

As for the shooting, whatever you may think of the woman it's good she survived (although the likely hood of serving her term looks very iffy). It's a tragedy for everyone else though, going about their business and getting shot. It's too soon to tell if the shooting was politically motivated, but with the tone of right-wing media and the Tea Party, it seems likely.

Come on, you know the answer to that one. This is a thread full of libs and Democrats with one conservative (me) and a libertarian (strange), so you the answer is self-evident.

Second, if you didn't watch it how would you know it was crap?

I despise the TLC and virtually everything they have ever aired. This was no different. They air a ton of reality TV shows about the daily life of various types of people. This is a show in that same mold. I don't like those shows, so I had no interest in this one. My wife watches a lot of TLC and consequently saw a couple of episodes of this. I got to see bits and pieces of it and it was no different that every other reality show they air.'

it doesnt take a democrat or liberal or conservative to see the show for what it is. It just takes a pair of eyes.

To be fair, TLC used to be cool back in their early days (How did they do that, New Detectives, Top Ten Greatest, ER...). They've mostly done gardening and home renovation nowadays.

Yes, it was. If you like typical TLC programming you'd like this. If you don't, you won't. I don't. Simple as that.

Sakura asked if anyone watched it. Did either you or Kodachi watch it? I wouldn't have expected any of you to for the reason I stated above. Why watch about a program about a person you hate? You think I'd watch a series about Obama or have any interest in his books? Hell, no.

I agree with Nate Silver and that it's too early to tell and caution against making too many predictions without knowing who his opponent is. That said, I'd agree to the extent that there really isn't a stand-out nominee amoung the Republicans and it might end up being 1996 and 2004, which saw rather weak opponents for the incumbent (Bob Dole and John Kerry). That may be the biggest reason Obama ends up re-elected.

The no bashing rule applies to this thread as well. The purpose of that rule is to avoid having this thread be nothing but a trading of insults rather than an actual discussion. So, both of you need to lay off the gratuitous insults.
