Funny Story, I got into One Piece because I assumed that it was just an enjoyable Comedy Gag Series.
I was never thrown off the Art style or Animation because I always thought that was it's own flair for it's comedy/light-heartedness.
However, The more I watched it, the more I realised how deep and compelling the story/characrters were (this realisation became apparent to me by Along Park arc). The more followed the series, I began to understand that this was a work of Genius.
I didn't even know One Piece was a shonen (after reading about 300 chapters) until someone told me .....that's why I think OP is really Unique compared to other shonen.
I think the only other shounen that can rival One Piece in its weirdness is Gintama.
All I can say to newcomers is: Give One Piece a chance to at least the Alabastia Arc. Last summer, I started rereading One Piece from the start. Kind of weird to see One Piece's beginning again after, what?, ten years when I've first seen it on TV. It didn't really get interesting to me until Sanji's Intro which is around Ch.40 I believe. Even though I've seen the episodes already, reading the arcs in manga form was so entertaining (and I'll prefer to stick with that tbh). It's hard to put it down once it gets exciting.
I mean, whenever I talk to others, people always say that Naruto has better art... BS, if you ask me XD I was never a big fan of Kishimoto's drawing style in all honesty. I sincerely love the art to One Piece- it suits the atmosphere of this manga.
With that being said, I'm looking forward to catching up with this manga this summer.
Who in here has reread One Piece from the start? Or how did you guys catch up with One Piece?
