I think it's the same reason with Naruto. Naruto and Sakura both wanted acknowledgement from Sasuke because he was the ideal person in their eyes. Well, that was the initial reason. Then part two, Sakura started to fall out of love......but then Kishi happened.
Yeah, for people like us who had an abusive father, that interview was really painful. It made me feel so disgusted and depressed for one whole day. I know others are also struggling to overcome that statement. Kick his ass? I wanted to tore the brain from his head. That guy doesn't know kitten about the heart of the abused. What's worse is that his statement is nearly identical to what my abusive father used to say.
That's not more than 0.01% of the entire Japanese society.
