OMG, these two have children???
OH WOW I am so behind Fairy Tail... I dropped it after its end (well, dropped many things after Naruto end tho) so I am so unaware of many of these things.
Last thing I remember about these two is that they loved each other but couldn't be together for some reason.
Maybe I should get back to FT sooner rather than later.
It was something that got brought up in the final arc of the series which actually made things pretty interesting, and I'd say check out 100 year quest as soon as you can because things are definitely getting interesting as a continuation from the main series.
the 100 year quest manga continuation is better than the main FT series.
I think the biggest strength with 100 year quest is that Hiro is primarily writing the story while one of his assistants is handling the artwork which is pretty much on par with the original series if I'm being honest.
The other thing being that Hiro was getting burnt off from working Fairy Tail towards the end (after Tartaros wrapped up) which kinda explains why things felt a little rushed, but I believe him taking that 1 year hiatus from the series finale was actually helped out.
It is pretty crazy to see his work ethic of drawing & writing Edens Zero alongside being the storyteller for 100 Years Quest, and I got to say that unlike Boruto they are addressing an element of the series that was mentioned in passing, but it's being told in an interesting way.

I know some people were pissed at Fairy Tail because no one died or wasn't serious enough or whatever, but imo Fairy Tail was never about that.
It was always about camaraderie and adventure so it was only obvious it won't have heavy subjects like Naruto or Bleach or whatever.
I always took it as it was intended and to me, it served its purpose. It pretty much delivered on all accounts.

The other factor people don't take into account, but Hiro did mention that unlike his previous series Rave Master where things were sentimental and sad, he wanted the story of his next manga (that being Fairy Tail) "to be a lot of fun" is how he described it. Which is something you really tell when you are going through Fairy Tail, and personally I think that's what makes the series so special and endearing.
A lot of people I feel looked Rave Master (his first series) as a masterpiece which it very much is (no pun intended lol), and were looking for a similar vibe when it came to Fairy Tail. To be fair I don't exactly blame them for having that kind of feeling cause initially I was kind of critical towards the series in the beginning since I know what Hiro's capable of as a writer, but once I came across that interview of his my perspective on the series changed. Obviously because I understood what kind of vibe he was going for Fairy Tail.

My biggest takeaway from Hiro Mashima as a writer is that he's pretty honest about the things he says in interviews, and especially if you ever pick up the Volumes (in more cases than few) he'll talk about story aspects of what happened within that volume, and what ideas he had and what things he may have altered which I personally thing is pretty cool. That's been a huge staple of Hiro Mashima ever since he started writing manga with his first series, and he continues to do so to this very day with his current series Edens Zero.
I love their history and dynamic together.
But that's just me guessing, given how nuts and serious Rave as a series got at times.
