In any case, I might have jumped off a bridge if we took Dalton. I hate how he was a 3rd round pick at best one month ago then shot up to late round status, it would have screamed of desperation and Kaepernick was available if we wanted a project QB who was as ready as Whitehurst is now. To look at it another way, in the 3rd round this year we drafted Charlie Whitehurst. He just has a shorter leash than an actual rookie. No pressure, Clipboard Jesus!
That said, if Locker fell to us you bet your sweet bottoms I would've been all over him. Damn right I'm a homer!
About Durham - while Dilfer and others hated the pick, at least one other team thought he was a great pick-up.
(For the younger readers, a "record store" was a building that you had to go to when you wanted to buy music.)
(For the younger readers, "buying music" was the way we acquired it, since we couldn't just… you know what, let's just get back to the Bowen song. Stupid kids, you ruin everything.)

I said I'd be posting summaries but *sniff* at least someone else is responding! If it makes you feel better the 2012 mock (throws up because it's too soon) on Foxsports shows you getting Andrew Luck number 1 overall.

Now onto Summaries:
CAROLINA PANTHERS
1. Panthers- Cam Newton. QB/Auburn
1(65) Panthers- Terrell McClain DL/South Florida
33(97) Panthers(Compensation Pick)- Sione Fua DL/Stanford
1(98) Brandon Hogan DB/West Virginia
1(132) Kealoha Pilares WR/Hawaii
1(166) Lawernce Wilson LB/UConn
38(203) (Compensation Pick)- Zachary Williams OL/Washington St.
41(244) (Compensation Pick)- Lee Ziemba OL/Auburn
The Draft will take on the name or memory in the pick of the First Round. Carolina is under a new regime and earned the First Pick in this years draft the old fashioned way...by going 2-14. But in the need of infusion of talent, flare and a Quarterback it seemed as if they were forced into the pick of Cam Newton to be their QB of the future. But time will tell if the move will pay off. Even with the Emergence of Quarterbacks, especially in the NFC south, Fist year quarterbacks have problems. There is a debate still of whether Jimmy Clausen, Matt Morse or Newton will start on day one, but in all likelyhood Newton will start on day 1, unless he has a horrible preseason. And the fight is already underway for a Number 2 jersey. The actual number 2, Clausen is not willing to give it up. Most outlets give Carolina a C in questioning the pick of Newton.
What does help is a stronger running game, and Jonathan Stewart ain't no slouch.
What doesn't lacking a second rounder thanks to New England.
Simon Fua was a good deal to fit a dire need in the defensive line punctured last year.
Either way, Newton is the Coin, Success means Carolina is back on Track, Bust...Ron Rivera and Marty Hurney better have a good travel agent. Like Baltimore to Indy good.
Once, we went 1-15 and did NOT get the first pick because the expansion Texans got it. The first pick was David Carr and Carolina was left with Julius Peppers.
And is thata typo or a joke, because it's Matt Moore.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS
12. Vikings- Christian Ponder QB/Florida State
11(43) Vikings- Kyle Rudolph TE/Notre Dame
9(106) Christian Ballard DL/Iowa
8(139) Brandon Burton DB/Utah
3(168) (From Broncos through Browns)- Demarcus Love OL/Arkansas
5(170)- Mistral Raymond DB-South Florida
7(172) Brandon Fusco OL/Slippery Rock
35(200) (Compensation) Ross Homan LB/Ohio St.
12(215) D'Aundre Reed DL/Arizona
33(236) (Compensation) Stephen Burton WR/West Texas A&M
Weren't you going to trade for McNabb? You still might, but Christian Ponder is your QB of the future...even if he was reached for. I suppose you could blame Andrew Luck for staying in school for inflating this years QB class. Originally a second rounder Ponder was taken 12th after Minnesota could not trade down, instead they reached. However they didn't reach for Kyle Rudolph who is considered the best tight end in a deep draft and taken in the second round. He'll add to the pass attack Ponder will be given along with Percy Harvin. The Vikes can still get the veteran QB to mentor and stopgap in the role before Ponder is ready once free agency and trades restart if the court finally rules, but Leslie Frazier said he'd like to see him day one.
Frazier went O-line and Defense after that, and once looking beyond the Ponder of Ponder...Minnesota didn't do badly. 4th round pick Ballard caused some worry when he failed a drug test earlier this year, but was valued as a second round pick. They got help at Cornerback as well.
CHICAGO BEARS
29. Bears- Gabe Carimi OT/Wisconsin
21(53) Bears (From Colts through Redskins)- Stephen Paea DT/Oregon St.
29(93) Bears- Chris Conte DB/Iowa
29(160) Nathan Enderle QB/Idaho
30(195) James Thomas LB/West Virginia
Da Bears are Solid. Jay Cutler is going to be happy that Gabe Carimi is going to be covering his butt. Last year Cutler was the most sacked QB in the league and had to be tough, until the Packers showed up...more on that later. Tommie Harris has a replacement hopefully in Stephen Paea of Oregon State. And Lovie Smith upgraded and added more to his defensive scheme. The only pick that stands out is Enderle of Idaho which can be answered by one name, Mike Martz. You know that's a Mad Mike pick. The only problem, the bears only had 5 total picks.
DETROIT LIONS
13. Lions- Nick Fairley DT/Auburn
12(44) Lions- Titus Young WR/Boise St.
25(57) Lions (From Seahawks) Mikel Leshoure RB/Illinois
26(157) (From Ravens thru Seahawks)- Douglas Hogue LB/Syracuse
6(209) (From Browns Thru Seahawks)- Johnny Culbreath OT/South Carolina St.
It's a good thing the Bears got Carimi and the Vikings got a couple of Offensive linemen, they'll need 'em. Detroit in three drafts looks like one of the scariest teams of 2011. The top three picks coinside with other picks in their history. Titus Young, meet Calvin Johnson. Mikel Leshoure meet Jahvid Best. Nick Fairley, meet Kyle Vanden Bosch and Ndamukong Suh. Like the Bears, they had five picks, however they traded to get the players they saw as the best. What they failed to address was the defensive backfield, but the strength of the D-line and the full compliment offense awaiting a James Andrews repaired Matthew Stafford outweighs that slightly. They have the AFC West and NFC South in their schedule. So unless the Superbowl champs are in the division you better run for it.
GREEN BAY PACKERS
32. Packers- Derek Sherrod OT/Ohio State
32(64) Packers- Randall Cobb WR/Kentucky
32(96) Packers- Alex Green RB/Hawaii
34(131) (Compensation)- Davon House DB/New Mexico State
10(141) (From 49ers thru Broncos)- DJ Williams TE/Arkansas
14(179) (From Dolphins)- Caleb Schlauderaff OL/Utah
21(186) (From Eagles thru Lions and Broncos)- DJ Smith LB/Appalachian State
32(197)- Rickey Elmore DL/Arizona
15(218) (From Jaguars thru Dolphins)- Ryan Taylor TE/North Carolina
30(233)- Lawrence Guy DT/Arizona State
Oh Green Bay what's up...ooh shiny belt. The Superbowl Champs can't expect to get better, but Green Bay somehow got a good draft. AGAIN. Green Bay took the best OL left in the first round by drafting Sherrod. Then they drafted Randal Cobb to replace James Jones. A new running back in Alex Green after James Starks did nothing until lighting up the Playoffs. Then dived into the deep Defensive and Tight End classes. With their schedule and reputation, they're going places.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
23. Eagles- Danny Watkins OG/Baylor
22(54) Eagles- Jaiquawn Jarrett DB/Temple
26(90) Eagles(From Ravens)- Curtis Marsh DB/Utah St.
19(116) (From Buccaneers)- Casey Matthews LB/Oregon
23(120)- Alex Henry K/Nebraska
18 (149) (From Chargers)- Dion Lewis RB/Pittsburgh
30(161) (From Jets)- Julian Vandervelde OL/Iowa
26(191) (From Ravens)- Jason Kelce OL/Cincinnati
28(193) (From Patriots)- Brian Rolle LB/Ohio State
34(237) (Compensation)- Greg Lloyd LB/UConn
37(240) (Compensation)- Stanley Havili RB(fullback)/USC
DeSean Jackson called the Eagles the next Greatest Show on Turf. Growing up watching the actual Greatest Show on Turf in all its glory, forgive me for disagreeing. But he's right when Philly has a good offense. With the Resurgence of Michael Vick under Andy Reid, they might wind up with a second first round pick next year because of Kevin Kolb who was originally a Second rounder, talk about getting your moneys worth.
Philly had 11 picks come out of this years draft and started by addressing their greatest offensive need, Protect Michael Vick. Danny Watkins the former Canadian firefighter now has to keep his Quarterback from going down in flames. Then they began the defensive makeover in the second round on a DB who loves to come against the run in Jarrett. Then got a nickel/dime corner in Marsh before taking another member of the Matthews family in the fourth round. While Casey is not projected like his older brother Clay, or though his hair isn't as good, he'll find a way into a backfield.
Though it was confusing for an outsider to take a kicker, after Akers it makes sense for Alex Henry to come in. Jason Kelce has questions of protecting a quarterback.
Overall the Eagles draft was decent, but we'll see.

My own thoughts ...
Round 1: Ponder is the biggest question mark and taking him at 12 would've been my third choice. My preference would be to have taken Fairley at 12 or dropped back to take the 18/27, 18/33 or maybe 27/33 that New England may have offered. If it was a lower collection of picks, I'd be less sanguine because I wanted us to take Dalton or Kaepernick and as it turned out, neither would be available for our 2nd rounder. (They might not have if we traded back since those teams may have traded up to get their guy ahead of us.) Getting Mallett later isn't especially interesting to me. I've been back and forth on him, but I don't have enough faith in the stability of our organization to rein in whatever risks there might be with him. But getting something like Amukamura and Dalton instead of Ponder would've appealed to me.
After Fairley, there were a bunch of guys that you basically could've drawn out of a hat for me and Ponder would've been among them.
Round 2: Rudolph looks like the BPA to me and he should be able to contribute right away.
Round 4: Ballard looks like a great pick. I'm not too concerned about a single failed drug test and think that he'll learn very quickly that he can't goof off like that any more. It makes a bit of a difference when it hits your paycheck that hard.
Round 5: I'm kinda meh on the Brandon Burton pick, but I don't know much about him or any of the other late picks so I can easily be wrong.
Round 6: In retrospect, I like the trade down in 5. I was annoyed at the time, but without the ability to get undrafted free agents means that lower round picks are more of a premium. Both Love and Raymond look like they have lots of promise so we should be getting quality depth out of at least one. Same with Fusco although probably not next year when he'll probably be on the practice squad.
Round 7: Not sure about Reed, but Burton 2 looks like a good practice squad candidate and could be good in a couple years.
I really liked the drafts of the other NFC North teams. Or I would've liked them if I wasn't in the same division. I think that each of them did very well at drafting both value and need. And for Detroit, getting Fairley in the 1st is outstanding value and makes that line terrifying.
I wanted Enderle for the Vikes as a developmental QB. But he's a great fit for the Bears since he took a ton of sacks in college.

St. Louis Rams
14. Rams- Robert Quinn DE/North Carolina
15(47) Rams- Lance Kendricks TE/Wisconsin
14(78) Rams- Austin Pettis WR/Boise St.
15(112)- Greg Salas WR/Hawaii
27(158)(From Falcons)- Jermale Hines DB/Ohio St.
13(216)- Mikail Baker DB/Baylor
25(228)(From Ravens)- Jabara Williams OLB/Stephen F. Austin
26(229)(From Falcons)- Jonathan Nelson DB/Oklahoma
The one good thing about the 2011 NFL Draft, when teams were scrambling for QBs it left a lot of talent at other positions.
Robert Quinn-He missed a year like other picks from North Carolina, but make no mistake there were a lot of players coming out of that program this year. The worry with him is the missed year and a benign brain tumor, but other then that he's a talented defensive end expected to go way before 14. Spagnolo loves his pass rushers and his bringing his defensive style from New York to St. Louis. Quinn will take over for James Hall hopefully and be a dynamic duo with Chris Long for years to come. It pays to have a QB. (One pick away from Nick Fairley though)
Lance Kendricks, Austin Pettis, Greg Salas all equal shiny new toys for Sam Bradford. Kendricks over all the Rams picks has been questioned because the Rams had tight ends, it smells of the Belichick offensive system coming from Josh McDaniels which is good. It was obvious the Rams weren't going to get a number 1 reciever after AJ Green went to Cincinnati but the Atlanta Blitz was not expected. Torrey Smith was scouted heavily but taken by the Ravens. So the Rams went for Production of Speed taking Pettis and Salas who are great in the Red Zone which is great because the team was not good in the red zone last season. But these three picks were help for Bradford.
The only two problems that the failed to fix in this draft were for the replacement of the now Redskin OJ Atogwe and a backup for Steven Jackson...again. Jackson needs help, but it's taking form in the QB. Some will say the Offensive line is in need of help but that's what Jason Smith and Roger Saffold are for.
Devaney and Spags late picks look good, hopefully they'll contribute, but upgrading the D-line and helping Bradford were the other main priorities.

What do you think about Carolina's draft Nate?
"Thata" is a word. Check Urban Dictionary.
I think they had to take Newton. I understand why people disagreed, but let's say you take Green or Darious and do not have the first pick next year and Clausen has another awful year. I feel bad for Clausen. He never got a fair shake, but they couldn't do nothing and with the labor situation being what it is they have no idea if they will be able to get a vet in time for it to matter.
The Panthers have holes everywhere, but 2-14 was because the QB play was so bad and John Fox ran the lamest offense known to man.
That said I know one Panther fan who is happy
He's not so high on the Broncos.... They need help Von. They need help.

DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!
Anyway..I don't think we'll know about Newton until he plays a couple seasons.
Now that the draft is over and that the NFL's latest defense even has the Pro-Owner radio people scoffing at it, I think that the NFL Lockout will end June 3rd hopefully; however the new issue is the NFL Owners just shutting down. Which will suck more.
http://content.usato...-nfl-shutdown/1
Total Shutdown.
Anyway good news for Minnesota Vikings Fans your state is giving you a new stadium, bad news for teams needing a new stadium....
DAMNIT!!!!
Can't LA just be happy with San Diego or getting the Raiders back? Why do they need both an NFC and AFC team? They're not a great sports town...except for the Lakers.
The easiest thing to do would be to clear land around the stadium to add more area and renovate the dome (including the damn retractable roof they skirted on in the first place! Seriously.) It's either that or suck it up and get a new stadium in the county, (Which Chiefs Country would love to do). *sigh* There's so many good spots out here to waste a billion dollars for a stadium. However if we go deep into the playoffs for a couple years...

FYA to anyone who likes nfl.com don't read Adam Rank the dude is so biased to want the LA Rams back that he can't have a straight column for bashing the city of St. Louis. He thinks we've suffered more then Cleveland Browns fans? Philly Fans? Because he wants his team back so we're the worst? Dude can't write even with the bias.
As for the Lockout can we end it and start free agency because seriously I think Sports news needs it more then others.
They've been debating Ed Reed v Troy Polomalu (Which actually is a good question)
Which team is moving to a stadium in LA that does not exist. At this point the Bills going to Toronto is more likely.
I think they need this to end more then Baseball needs to stop denying how stupid interleague play is.
Somewhere in Bristol, Chris Berman is in a fetile position.
In others discussions reports are the new deal is going to let 4 year free agents hit the market this year so that means even more players on the market. Hello Sydney Rice!
And does anyone have a positive opinion of Terrell Pryor as a prospect? Cause I don't.

• Players want restoration of $320 million in lost benefits from the 2010 uncapped season.
• Players want to limit use of the franchise tag on unrestricted free agents to a one-time application. Previously, teams could use the franchise tag on a player on three separate occasions with significant increases on one-year guaranteed salaries for every additional year that the player was tagged.
• Settlement of the Brady antitrust lawsuit involving 10 named plaintiffs. The limit of franchise tags on all players could be the anchor to the settlement. That would result in named plaintiffs such as Drew Brees, Logan Mankins, Peyton Manning and Vincent Jackson not being subject to any free agent restrictions in 2012 if their respective teams do not sign them to long-term contracts.
• Workman's compensation. It has been an underpublicized and complex issue for the owners that has resulted in numerous lawsuits. Owners want players to file for workman's comp benefits in the state in which they played, if they suffered an injury. Currently, players have used California as a filing base if they can prove they suffered any injury during their career while playing in that state.
• Settlement of the television damages case stemming from U.S. District Judge David Doty's ruling that owners did not act in the best interests of players as directed by the previous CBA in creating "lockout insurance." The players have asked Doty to place $4 billion in escrow until the lockout is resolved but Doty has not ruled. It is possible the players will use this leverage to gain the $320 million in restoration of lost benefits from 2010.
Also this is a neat little tidbit.
In other words the NFL has established a Credit line for new stadiums, including one to be built in LA. This seems that we'll have a guaranteed team while other teams in need of Stadiums will be able to build their own.
-Miami
-Buffalo
-Atlanta
-St. Louis
-Oakland
-San Fransisco
-San Diego
-Minnesota
-Cincinnati
Look at the list for a moment. Two are the bad/unlucky teams in the AFC East. 1 team is fantastic. Another could be updated (tear the roof off Kroenke!). 1 is currently delayed due to a state government shutdown (interesting sidenote that also affects booze because of the regulatory system). 3 Teams are currently in California. Oakland has one hope in staying in Northen California and that's to share the planned Santa Clara stadium with the 49ers. But knowing Al Davis he wants back in LA if a new stadium is involved. No one pictures the 9ers going south, could you imagine the rage? San Diego or Oakland could spurn a new rivalry if it's a race to LA in the same division.
The one team from Ohio might confuse you but thanks to an article from the WSJ it turns out the Bengal's stadium has been a boondogle for the county. http://online.wsj.co...=googlenews_wsj Seriously read it, you'll hate Mike Brown even more than you already do. But other then that it turns out the Bengals also have an opt of their lease just like St. Louis.
Jacksonville isn't included because they don't have a stadium issue as much as a leasing issue.
