I thought the translation was "Naruto is close and she cares for him as well but still... Sasuke", with the empty part before Sasuke implying love.
Chatte did your friend do a literal translation or what she thought the translation implied. I only ask because sometimes japanese can't be accurately translated into english so translating something literally can give a different meaning. It could very well be that my translation is the literal one but the correct meaning is what your friend told you. I don't really know for sure.
There was no buts there. She works as a proffesional translator and lived there, studied for 3 years.
So, basically, what she translated you could say it's the most accurate thing. What it literally meant, not implied.
I always double-asks her if things are really like that because I know how skeptical people are.
Same happened with that Sakura status as a heroine, someone said that no, it wasn't good, although I double checked with her.
And she explained to that person why things were like that, what it meant, the verbs, everything.
Here is the thing I was talking about: http://chatteart.dev...050059#comments
It goes to page 2, even.
So, trust me, she knows what she's talking. If I ever trusted someone with being impartial, it's her.
She isn't even into shipping. She stopped reading Naruto because of Itachi, being her favorite character.
So, it's what you could say, an impartial translation.
That's why every time I have something, I ask her.
