On one hand I'm glad NS wasn't dragged through the mud like NH/SS, but on the other hand those two should have been together, because everything and everyone was rooting for them. Well, at least fanon is great.

I still like the fanon for the most part because it feels like everyone understands the story and how is it reflected based on facts. It's rather funny to think popularity really took the poll of the series because I see another series that had a "villain" number 1 but that didn't change the story. That or how some other characters get the shine when they're not popular like that. So yeah, it's amazing that this series did it.

Even after popularity won, they still gonna fail. Popularity is base on opinion and vote, it doesn't 100% means money. Yes maybe NH and SS popularity beat NS in total but i believe more than 70% of those who vote for it read the manga for free / pirating. That is where SP fail to see, now that most of japanese fan is angry because of this ending, they lose their basic income. The one who give the most money for them is fans in their own country, and because they see popularity of NH and SS come from the west, they think they have to aim their marketing strategy to the west fan, while in fact most of fan outside japan read the manga from internet / pirating.

 

Now they starting to wonder why NH and SS popularity is so big but the money the got is not as much as before the ending. Serve them right, after all those kitten stuff they keep doing, i hope they go bankrupt soon.

For jump, I think they pander over the biggest bid (nh & ss fan).
For sp, well they're bias.

Depend on the writer, some of writers who have clear vision of their work will shrug it off. Some will bend over the demand of market.

Change based on popularity is not new in manga world. Rose of Versailles main character was Marie antonite, but due to her low popularity and lady oscar rise popularity, they change the mc to a popular side character. The change proof a success.
So it's not new in the commercial magazine who will kick out new comer if they are not popular like jump.

I get that but Naruto lasted way too long that anything else with lack of reasons will ruin the flow. That series was short. Much shorter than Naruto. Too little too late is the case for Naruto.

And it doesn't help how easily such online polls could be skewed due to people of any extremist (pairing) fandom doing things like creating multiple accounts to keep up-voting their favorite(s), getting friends (who may or may not care) to take a few seconds to up-vote the same as they do, and so on. I wouldn't be surprised if there are even shills who are (cheaply) paid by SP/Shueisha to do such things and try to keep Hinata and NH/SS looking more popular than they actually are.

After all, not to turn this political, but it is actually well-known that various right wing "conservative" sites and groups pay people to lurk and troll left wing message boards/forums, YouTube videos, and other such sites while spreading their talking points, purposely causing disruptions/distractions, and so on, sometimes getting paid in general or for each response their posts get (Media Matters for America being a prime example of such a left wing site constantly hounded and trolled by right wingers and right wing shills); some because they actually believe those talking points while others just see easy money.

I don't know if the other members know this but what you said about companies paying different individuals to talk about their product is true. Sometimes companies create multiple website that praise their product in order to fool people in believing that product is amazing. If you know those electric ab belts that you see commercials for on TV, you know the ones. Well one of them was actually caught doing such practices.
