He wasn't trying tnj his way out of anything, so the "cure all" business makes no sense. He felt that he was being disrespected and called shouto on his kitten. It's not development that he literally got thrown away like trash.

 

Shouto could have gotten the same thing even if he had been pushed in the win. It's not about Shouto though, Deku got horrible mistreated in this chapter.

Wow it's amazing how differently we view this chapter. Lol. But nah like I said Deku was definitely tnj-ing throughout this fight just to pump Shouto up and make him let go of Endeavor's grasp, which he thought would help him. But in the end he lost sight of his main goal and regretted his actions. Character development.

It stemmed from the fact was that he was annoyed that Shouto was only using half his power, and felt disrespected because of it. Then, he got one-shot solo'd and made to look like a talentless loser that wasn't even worth Shouto's time. Not character development.

See, I don't see him feeling disrespected though. If that was the case, why was he smiling like an idiot once Shouto used his fire side? I think it infers that he was proud of him instead of pissed off at him...

Sigh...okay. We're reading this completely different. But hey, it was still a fun read regardless.

He didn't get "one shot solo'd", he essentially defeated himself because he can't control his power, injured himself horribly and made Todoroki use his full power for the first time. lt makes him look far better than if he'd just kept his mouth shut because ice-only Todo was his for the taking.

 

l like this development a lot, it makes Midoriya look selfless, kitten crazy and really awesome, while it makes perfect sense that he's not able to defeat what looks like his strongest rival yet. This is only the beginning of the story and of Midoriya's development. He'll get his eventual rematch with Todo and surpass him, but not yet.

In all honestly, I do think that the chapter should have progressed a little better. It was going too fast to fully understand the emotions of both characters. The fight was meant to be anticlimatic one Deku's behalf, but I would have liked it if the story went deeper into Deku's feelings about what he did towards Shouto.

Ch.40

This chapter... How do I feel? Mixed feelings. It was a good chapter though.

What I really don't like is Shouto's development... I knew that there was always a possibility that it'd turn out this way. Shouto says:" In the moment I used my powers... I forgot you." I first thought it was a good thing, but then Shouto said: "I need to think whether it was a good or bad thing." That's exactly what is going on... What will happen with Shouto. From now on, I will stay aware with Shouto. I still love him, but I'm going to be patient and see what will happen to him.

Deku, I feel for you. I really do. He knew that meddling into Shouto's affairs is not his business... and he regretted it. Was it wrong though in my eyes. Nope. Eventually, Shouto had to use his powers anyways. I loved Deku in this chapter.

I finally read this and I feel like there's this slim possibility that Shouto's going to become too caught up in revenge on his father that he will eventually become a villain using his fire side just to traumatize his father. And he's going to find some BS reason to justify it. So yea, Shouto is still in the iffy zone.  

 

Oh!  Maybe this is why the match was so disappointing!? Because Deku expected for Shouto to accept his full self, when actually he could have fueled Shouto's hatred for Endeavor even more. And maybe that's what he realized when he said he felt "regret".

I'm so happy I at least predicted this one right. I mean, c'mon, think about it: another Bakugou v. Deku battle? Cause that's exactly what we were heading for if Deku actually won this fight. And writing wise, that would have been milking the main rivalry way to much at the beginning stages of this manga. It has to be Shouto v. Bakugou. It just has to.  

 

It's the simple truth: Deku is still too weak to actually win against Shouto or Bakugou. I've said this countless of times and I'll continue saying this until the day he finally gets an upgrade. That isn't to say that out of these three, he doesn't have the most potential- because I truly believe that he does. It's just that him defeating the likes of them is still way too soon. It hasn't even been a year since he's practiced using his quirk. It just wouldn't make sense for him to win like, every battle.  

 

But you know what? He learned a good lesson from this. He was too caught up in the moment that he actually didn't think about his own feelings or aspirations. His only thought was Shouto, and releasing him from his troubles. Yeah, to other people, he looked stupid. But this obviously happened so that Shouto will finally break free from the curse of his father- all thanks to Deku's amazing Talk no Jutsu.

So I ventured around other forums about Bnha and there's just so much negativity surronding the characters, especially Ochako and Hatsume (Why am I no surpised. I wonder.) So I thought it would be a good idea to talk about good traits and developments that we like about the characters.  

 

For instance, I really like Deku because of his strong will and his ability to overcome obstacles thrown at him. I like Ochako because she's super happy all of the time and she wants to give back to her parents. I also like Bakugou because I know deep down inside he has the potential to become one of the best heroes in the story.

Well, I like Ochako b/c of her bubbly and energetic personality, her supportive attitude towards her friends (Deku, Iida, etc.), and desire to help out her parents.

Hatsume b/c of her confidence, and cunning behavior (imao, I'm still laughing about her tricking Iida XD ).

Oh let's not forget about Iida! Iida's really cool because he knows how to be a good rival. There's no bad blood between him and Deku. He wants to beat him but also respects and admires him.

Izuku- A kind and compassionate person. Puts others before himself. Enjoy his character development, going from a complete coward to a more determined and spirited if still timid young man. Love his relationship with All Might. His Crush on Ochako is cute. Mastering One for All is vital cause All that Aizawa stated is starting to come true.

 

Ochako- A charming girl. Very sweet and considerate. I can relate to her wanting to improve her Parents lives very well as the son of a single mother myself. I find her powers interesting, and also that she is NO pushover when the chips are down. She can be tough and determined as well. Did that slight pout and jealousy when Izuku complimented Mei mean something?

 

Tenya- I like the super speed power a lot, Its a personal favorite actually. Is a bit stiff in personality but is a good person at heart, and a hard, diligent worker. A reliable friend and fierce rival which is what friendship should be about, showing both admiration and desire to surpass Izuku was his most defining Moment so far. admiration for his brother is also something I relate to really well. (p.s. Win Momo's affections!) lol  

 

Shouto- I like the badasses, although the quiet, distant and unemotional ones are kind of overused. I can also relate to the dysfunctional relationship with his father cause mine is always is always complaining about my faults and blaming my mom for "not raising me right" so I don't feel any filial attachment or obligation towards him. His Powers are cool, not much else to say.

 

Katsuki- Like his fighting ability and that's about it. I make no disillusions about what I feel regarding his personality and treatment of others though he seems to be getting a bit better.
