I really liked the battle system the game had. It's been a while since I found a game where I didn't mind grinding. And 12, had just enough new quirky things with it to make it fun.
A story was there but it wasn't anything too rememberable. But mainly, I can say a game is an enjoyable experience if it has characters that I love. I can't really get into a game if it has lackluster characters, because when they get into situations I feel removed from everythign and don't really care.
FF12, had some characters that I liked, a great battle system, so it was a fun experience for me.

I know what you mean, I spent a good amount of time grinding. I'll probably play XII again after I'm done with XIII.

Final Fantasy rankings huh? I guess I'll join in the fun as well. My list from a few months back (haven't decided on FFXIII yet):

Best FF ever, end of argument, proceed to talk about FF13.

Remake? Highly unlikely. I doubt SE wants to take that gamble with an unsteady economy bouncing around like a Moogle. FF XIII's director wants to remake VII, but he said if it was approved, it would likely take 3 times the manpower and budget of FF XIII.
Not to mention if one thing from the remake screwed up, tons of fanboys would be at SE's throat. It would sell well, but I'd rather have Square dedicate time to Versus XIII and XIV. (I expect more news at E3 this year)
Who? *scratches head*

FF VI is by far my favorite as well, and CELES CHERE IS MAH WAIFU.
(For the younger readers, a "record store" was a building that you had to go to when you wanted to buy music.)
(For the younger readers, "buying music" was the way we acquired it, since we couldn't just… you know what, let's just get back to the Bowen song. Stupid kids, you ruin everything.)

Be the Ultimate Ninja! Or Reaper! Or Zombie Killer... or something. Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN!

Best FF ever
II was better.
I always thought that, as a game itself, X-2 was pretty fun. The first chapter of the game was almost intolerable; like you said, it was fanservice in it's purest form. Cheesy dialogue, gag inducing pop undertones and ridiculous amounts of Charlies Angels references. It was difficult to get through, but I always felt that once the first chapter mercifully ended, the story picked up somewhat and it started feeling more like Final Fantasy and less like cheesecake in playable form.
On top of that, I'm a sucker for the job system and X-2's Dress sphere system was basically that with a twist. Certainly helped the enjoyment. I mean, hell, it wasn't any worse that suffering through the pure bland that was Final Fantasy V's story because the system was fun; the only truly interesting character beat in that game at all was when the old dude died trying to take down ExDeath.

Have you even played the game Shauna? Now I will admit since posting that message the other day my opinion has changed a little of this game but I still think it's one of the worst Final Fantasys by comparison to others, it's not the worst (that's still Final Fantasy 3 and X-2 still doesn't count) but there are previous entries in this series that are FAR superior.

Skipped all cutscenes.
7 hours and 30 minutes.
I failed. :c
Also.
Mihi nomen Orphanus.
Vigilans aeternum exitum cupio;
diem gemitus, laerimamque divae matris,
quae spes mihi sunt.
L'cie, pande foris promissi,
plena lucis perpetuae.
Also you guys need to leave FFTA alone. My 100+ hour save would kick your asses.

It is a legitimate tactic! (let's ignore the fact I had collectors catalog and the upgraded version equipped to try and get more plaitnum ingots and that trapasomething catalyst to upgrade weapons to tier 3 lol)

I liked FFXII, too!

Maybe if you combined FFXII's gameplay with FFXIII's story and characters, you'd create a game you would never get me away from. XD
I'm now at the open area on Gran Pulse. Haven't done any exploring/fighting there yet, I had no time. Perhaps today?
